Sunday Devotional: I am going to prepare a place for you

John 14:1-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You have faith in God; have faith also in me.
In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.
Where I am going you know the way.
Thomas said to him,
Master, we do not know where you are going;
how can we know the way?
Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.”

“I am going to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back again and take you to myself,
so that where I am you also may be.”

In those words is the promise from our Lord that our bodily death is not the end of all things, and that if we follow Him (“the way”) we will transcend death and be with Him for all eternity.

Those of us who have lost a loved one, as I have last year, should take comfort in that promise, given eloquent expression by Henry Scott-Holland (1847-1918), a priest at St. Paul’s Cathedral of London who delivered the poem below as part of a sermon in 1910:

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.

Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?

Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just round the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

May the peace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you,

~Eowyn

THE LORD has called out to the churches across america,WAKE UP,their asleep,or in a coma,THE MEN have been COMMANDED TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN and their families,WHERE are they, why are they still silent, the men are now nothing ,(JEREMIAH 51:30)VERY FEW from america will see heaven, and even fewer will be called to the wedding of the Lamb,my guess is,THE RAPTURE of the people of GOD will be so few it won’t be noticed by anyone..THE GREAT TRIBULATION started in March of 2020,NO ONE said a thing,But hell is coming to breakfast shortly, are the churches of men ready,NO they aren’t, they don’t believe… Read more »

You mean Daniel’s week/Jacob’s trouble/tribulation as already begun? Wow, when did the peace agreement get assurance – wheres the 3rd temple, I mean I could go on! Know and understand eschatology – the Lord hates the twisting of His Word! Yes, the Lord hates sin! It’s why He sent Jesus (His only Son) so that all who would call upon Jesus would be Saved from Eternal Hell. Yes, He does love us. Yes, the Lord Will Judge this nation But He’ll also Judge all Nation’s (Isaiah 66 Joel chapter 3 etc) Finding specks in our brothers eye while missing the… Read more »

Very well stated “wife & I”! You saved me the trouble of educating them. If only more people took the time to ACTUALLY attempt to understand what they have read. Read REVELATION! Ask God/Christ for understanding. You may no longer be confused by this worlds “rulers”. It’s ALL been written! YOU are already saved if you accept Christ and follow His commands! All that means is realize Christ came to Earth to show & tell us that; “Might makes right” is incorrect! We MUST love one another and treat each other fairly & justly. Sharing the Gospel with others is… Read more »
