Assault of special needs student caught on video

CarolinaLiveDarlington police say they reviewed school bus surveillance video that showed a teacher’s aide and a school behavioral manager hit and push a 10-year-old special needs student from St. John’s Elementary School.  The two school employees, Tomeka Self and Rosanna Dudley, have been arrested and charged with Simple Assault and Battery.
Police say the two were putting a safety harness on the child when they hit him on the head, slapped his face and pushed himPolice Chief Danny Watson says the boy isn’t able to communicate verbally, but was not aggressive at all toward the women. Chief Watson said the boy is severely handicapped and called it an unfortunate and horrible situation.
Police say they were contacted by Darlington County School District asking them to investigate the video. School district spokesperson Audrey Childers says school officials were alerted by a bus driver. Childers says Self and Dudley have been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
“This behavior is unacceptable, especially coming from adults who have been entrusted with the care of our children,” said Dr. Rainey Knight, superintendent of the district. “We do not condone this behavior anywhere in our district for any child.”
This is so disturbing….slapping a defenseless child?  These two women should never be allowed in a classroom ever again.

  1. That just made me literally sick. That poor kid did not fight them or resist. It looked to me like he was trying to cooperate. All he did to “deserve” those slaps was cry. Those vile, hatefull ¶|#¢Π€$ should be fired, jailed, and sued.

  2. And to think if the camera wasn’t there they would have gotten away with it! My little brother is 12 with Down Syndrome.

  3. This is the kind of people you get to work with your kids when the government and the unions take over the schools, both the government and the unions need kicked OUT of our educational system! The unions need ran out of the US compeletly! Semper Fi.

  4. The kid knew the drill with the safety harness better then they did and they started smacking him when THEY couldn’t get it on. Join SEIU.

  5. And this happened in St. John’s, a parochial school!
Those two women shouldn’t just be kept away from kids and schools, they should be charged with felony assault.
    That poor boy. Prayers….

    • Correction to your post: Although the name sounds like it, St. John’s is NOT a parochial school. It is and always has been a public school.

  6. Yes, it will make your BP rise…sigh.

  7. Here’s hoping they rot in prison.
And if I were the father of that child, I would be in the next cell over.
