SNL And That Sick Feeling

For many years I have felt sick any time I allowed myself to watch an episode of Saturday Night Live. As I recently began to re-read Psalms from the beginning, I noticed that the very first verse of the very first psalm addresses that sick feeling. SNL may sometimes be funny, but their humor is always scornful. So when I watch SNL I am sitting “in the company of mockers” and my spirit is sending me a clear warning.
“They that have ears to hear, let them hear.”

Psalm 1

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”

Amen! I grew up with it and am finally trying to rid myself of it, even when greatly justified in human terms.

I REALLY liked SNL back when it started-that all STOPPED when they started getting political.

Agreed, there isn’t a Gilda Radner in the bunch or anyone worthy of carrying her shoes.
They ceased to be good entertainment years ago.

Imagine how I felt when I learned Al Pacino had a role in a movie which promoted inserting a clenched fist and forearm through the rectal orifice of another person’s digestive system as an act of intimacy. When I found out I had supported his movies for many years because I thought he captured a lot of emotion in his roles. Now all I feel is sick!

Since I go to bed early and wake up early, I’ve never watched SNL. And I will continue doing that!

Fret not, as you shan’t be missing anything worth watching.
SNL hasn’t been funny since the original cast left.

I don’t sleep much, but I wouldn’t watch SNL these days even if paid to do so. Sick, depraved skits fueled by political hackery – not even remotely funny or entertaining.

I carefully studied your comment and sensed a bit of nanoaggression. Get to know the neighborhood flakes, I mean snowflakes, take one to dinner, comfort them, they will respond with loving appreciation. HAHA HAHA … Now look at what you made me say!

This particular scripture certainly does fit the situation we currently find ourselves in. Very good advice. I loved SNL back in about 1976, but as the years passed by . . . it became garbage. Best to just pass this garbage by!

I agree with its downfall. It began kind of off-beat, maybe trying to copy Monte Python’s Flying Circus, which was once aired on PBS here. Then for a bit I found it somewhat funny. Then it got just plain dull as they switched out performers. Then it degraded further to being nothing but a smear campaign on conservatives, whites, Republicans, Christians, etc. Immorality is king for that show now, which is generally true for a lot of what’s on T.V. and cable now, but especially commentary and comedy shows since maybe beginning in the late 60s and building to a… Read more »

I’ve only seen maybe 20 minutes of SNL over the years, but that’s more than enough to see its roots in Borscht Belt derision and schlockification of the people, religion, culture, and traditions of this once great country that took them in. Even the producers of SNL must have been shocked at the retarded immaturity of their audiences and the followers of SNL on TV who couldn’t get enough of watching socio-sexual freaks piss on everything their parents and grandparents held dear.

Amazed the Alec Baldwin turdlet about Trump’s sex life in the video above made it to air, and I’d not heard any ramifications on it in the news. Wonder if it was scripted or he just went off the reservation? Love to see the FCC step in, see SNF “let Alec go”… maybe even force up a feigned apology. But I know none of that will happen. Not where the left is at fault.

SNL used to be great. Now it’s where careers go to die. Real shame. Alec Baldwin is a loser!

That nauseated feeling…yes that is what I get what I watch such putrid hate disguised as comedy, and at the same time actually hear the audience lapping it up and laughing. I haven’t been able to stomach this show since the last talented batch of players left- Carvey, Hartmen and that group. It was all down hill from there. They all did political humor then too, but it was not mean spirited, and they all did such fantastic impressions. Think Dan Akroid’s imitation of Nixon and Carter, Dana Carvey’s Ross Perot or Bush, and Hartman’s Clinton. Those were hilarious and… Read more »

Fortunately, I don’t feel I’m missing anything, because I have NEVER thought SNL was funny, even in the 1970s.
Their biggest competitor, however, SCTV, now THAT was funny!
