Sexgate: CBS & PBS fired Charlie Rose after 8 women accused him of sexual misconduct, incl. walking around naked

I knew it!
Years ago, when I first saw Charlie Rose on PBS, before he became CBS This Morning‘s anchor, I took an instant visceral dislike of him, not because of his political ideology (of which I knew little), but because I found his faux sincerity creepy.

Yesterday, The Washington Post reports that eight women told the newspaper that Charlie Rose had made unwanted sexual advances toward them, including lewd phone calls, walking around naked in their presence, and groping their breasts, buttocks or genital areas.
The women, who ranged in age from 21 to 27 at the time of Rose’s lewd behaviors, were either employees or aspired to work for Rose at PBS’s Charlie Rose show. The incidents took place from the late 1990s to as recently as 2011. Rose is 75, which means he was 69 years old in 2011.
According to the Washington Post, “rumors about Rose’s behavior have circulated for years.
Jeremy Derard reports for Deadline (via MSN), Nov. 20, 2017:

There are striking commonalities in the accounts of the women, each of whom described their interactions with Rose in multiple interviews with The Post. For all of the women, reporters interviewed friends, colleagues or family members who said the women had confided in them about aspects of the incidents. Three of the eight spoke on the record.”

Below is Rose’s statement in response to the women’s accusations:

“In my 45 years in journalism, I have prided myself on being an advocate for the careers of the women with whom I have worked. Nevertheless, in the past few days, claims have been made about my behavior toward some former female colleagues.
It is essential that these women know I hear them and that I deeply apologize for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate. I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.
I have learned a great deal as a result of these events, and I hope others will too. All of us, including me, are coming to a newer and deeper recognition of the pain caused by conduct in the past, and have come to a profound new respect for women and their lives.”

Update:

CBS News has fired Charlie Rose; PBS also parted ways with Rose shortly after the CBS decision.
Today, Nov. 21, CBS News executives sent staffers an email memo, which was obtained by Fox News. The memo says:

“A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News, effective immediately.
This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program.
Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace — a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work. We need to be such a place….
CBS News has reported on extraordinary revelations at other media companies this year and last. Our credibility in that reporting requires credibility managing basic standards of behavior. That is why we have taken these actions….”

PBS put him on a pedestal of virtual sainthood. I don’t rejoice in his downfall, but if he is really a creep, it’s better the public is aware of it. Charley, you are no longer Saint Charley, but now simply Charley the guy at the other end of the bar room who I don’t want near my female relatives.

He’s simply cadaverous. This is like reverse necrophilia, where the poor women were abused by a corpse.

He gave me the impression he lurks in public parks wearing a London Fog raincoat. Probably the type who farts and blames it on the dog.

Charlie rose. And then he fell.
And so the producers or members of the Board fired Charlie.
Sorry, Charlie!
But this is more about a single man. (Walking around NAKED?!?!) How do we know the producers or board members are clean? Actually, we don’t. But anything in that area should come out soon enough. This is about the fall of the Liberal Ideology. And, actually, I believe this is actually possible. It is possible because people are finally beginning to rebel against it.
Looks like the Humpty Dumpty children’s rhyme may actually come true after all!

Geez, I don’t know where to put this post due to all the “sexgate” stories spilling out from coast to coast in industry and government. So I’ll put it here. Can’t wait until all the past women, coeds, from colleges and universities all over the United States start telling stories against their exhalted and revered lliberal professors. Everyone knows about lecherous professors eliciting sex (both hetero and homo-sexual favors) in return for grades. If this avalanche ever unleashes…it will make Hollywood and Washington, D.C. stories PALE by comparison.

I seriously need to “up my game” here. Maybe there is something to this, huh? I would never imagine that whipping it out (clinton), texting it (weiner), playing with it (wienstein), or walking out in the buff (rose) would be strategies that could possibly work. But I cannot help but think that they must have paid off for these men. After all, why would one keep doing something that does not work? Who would really think that one could do these things and not get reported to the police? Yet these guys have done stuff like this repeatedly, and it… Read more »
