Seattle Mayor fails to handle Seattle May Day

Despite prior knowledge of anarchists’ planned activities in downtown Seattle on May Day, it took a full morning of violence and damage for Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn to issue an emergency order to protect citizens and businesses.

Cowardly criminals hide their faces with masks

Komo News: Some May Day protestors ran rampant in Downtown Seattle Tuesday afternoon, smashing windows at businesses and cars as they marched through city streets and causing Seattle’s City Hall to go into lockdown.
The chaos and property damage prompted Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn to grant emergency police powers to deal with any potential new riots that could crop up during the rest of the afternoon.
“Using the emergency powers of the mayor’s office, I’m issuing an order for the limited purpose of giving police the authority to confiscate items that can be used as well. McGinn said dozens of black-clad protesters were using items that looked like flagpoles as weapons. He said his order would enable police to take those items away from people before they are used to cause damage. McGinn said his action would help protect public safety as protests continued into Tuesday evening.
“My direction to the police is that I expect them to respond to lawbreaking swiftly and aggressively,” McGinn said. “The First Amendment uses of 5-foot-long, 3-inch rod sticks is outweighed today by our desire to preserve public safety and confiscate weapons.” McGinn said.
Citing student safety, Seattle Schools officials say their buses will be running up to 90 minutes late due to the May Day protest.
All five downtown Wells Fargo Bank branches, including one at Fourth Avenue and Seneca Street where windows were broken, have been closed for the rest of the day, said Lara Underhill, a Wells Fargo spokeswoman.
Why did this damage to private property even have to occur?  Mayor McGinn had full knowledge of the intention of individuals to use the public demonstrations as an opportunity to commit  violence and damage property.
If I were an individual or business owner I’d be sending my property damage bill directly to the Mayor’s office.

  1. People that keep on electing communist to public office give up their right to complain.

  3. Gosh, it’s not as if the mayor hadn’t had prior warning about the May Day disruption plans! Snark.
The Occupiers ran amuck in the San Francisco area as well.

I’ve been predicting violent demonstrations and the abject failure of civil authority to stop the violence for the last several years. The only thing that is surprising about this is that it took such a long time to occur.

A few kids taking advantage to run amok and wreak damage ruin a legitimate protest. Nothing new about that. I SAW the protest march from my building window and it was a a few dozen kids in black that were taking advantage of an otherwise peaceful group of people trying to get their voice heard. As usual, media spin makes it something entirely different.

    • How do you know they are kids when they are wearing masks? How do you know there weren’t dozens more on the next block or other blocks?
The police have vid of some of the Black Block changing into normal clothes to join the protestors. How do you know they weren’t part of the peaceful protestors?
Media spin? How do they spin damage of private property? It happened and they reported it.

Richard, I think I recognize your name. I voted for someone with the same name who ran for a state office back in the 1990s. I remember being favorably impressed at an event in Kitsap County.

    • And I saw from my home these destructive “kids” do tens of thousands of dollars damage while the cops were ten feet away and Not arresting the little darlings! It was amazing!
No occupy people tried to stop the kids ruining their reputation and parade either!
So hogwash on it wasn’t us peaceful ows people.

  6. “A few kids taking advantage to run amok and wreak damage ruin a legitimate protest.” What legitimate protest would that be having to work for a living?

  7. Gee, the DNC’s strategy is to create more gun owners and GOP voters? [Scratches head.] I’m stumped…

Local TV preempted regular programming to cover the carnage downtown this afternoon. The really violent ones were dressed completely in black including full black face masks — smashing windows, setting fires.
The mayor and cops were wusses during the WTO protests, too. In the end, they totally lost control.

  9. Sending stupid people to college for six or seven years of Marxist drivel and $80,000 in debt can have nasty consequences.

  10. IF THEY SHOT THE LEGS OUT FROM UNDER THE ONES THAT WERE BREAKING THE STORE WINDOWS AND STARTING FIRES ALL THIS SHIT WOULD END. ANYBODY that wants to destroy other peoples property need shot anyway! People that don’t want to work, need to stay at home till they get a job and quit blaming everybody else for their lazyness! Semper Fi.

  11. I got an interesting e-mail from a friend of mine talking about May Day and the use of the word “FORWARD”.
New Obama slogan has long ties to Marxism, socialism
By Victor Morton – Insider Politics
The Obama campaign apparently didn’t look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, “Forward” — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name “Forward!” or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called “Forward (generic name of socialist publications).”
“The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications,” the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan “Forward!” reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word “Forward” with the “O” having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign’s official beginning.
There have been at least two radical-left publications named “Vorwaerts” (the German word for “Forward”). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany’s SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.
East Germany named its Army soccer club ASK Vorwaerts Berlin (later FC Vorwaerts Frankfort).
Vladimir Lenin founded the publication “Vpered” (the Russian word for “forward”) in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as “Forward, Soviet” (though also and more literally as “Stride, Soviet”).
Conservative critics of the Obama administration have noted numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama’s history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist.
FRANKLY I BELIEVE THE USE OF THIS WORD IS OPEN MOCKING OF THE REST OF US WHO LOVE OUR FREEDOM. HE’S DECLARING OPEN WAR FARE ON US. What do you guys think??? I would like to know.

    I live in downtown Seattle.
Mayor McGinn is widely regarded as a complete coward.
    What can we expect?
The liberals still outnumber the conservatives by a slim margin, and getting slimmer all of the time.
Mayor McGinn last year stated that he “supports their position.”
I guess pot smoking (which he is the most famous for) and social lawlessness go hand in hand in his little brain.
Oh well, all I can do is vote—-against any and every liberal !!!!
