Scrabble Players Association to ban 238 words that cause harm, even on a board

This will certainly end all the problems in our country…

From USA Today:

“The North American Scrabble Players Association is prepared to vote this week to ban more than 200 offensive words from its official lexicon for judging in tournaments, according to a report from The New York Times. If the rule change is approved as expected, the ban will go in effect by September.

Hasbro told The New York Times on Tuesday the NASPA had “agreed to remove all slurs from their word list for Scrabble tournament play, which is managed solely by NASPA and available only to members.” Hasbro owns rights to Scrabble in North America.

While some competitive Scrabble players endorse using the words because of the points allotted, John Chew, the CEO of NASPA, told members in a recent newsletter banning the words is best because of the harm they can cause even on a Scrabble board.

“I have felt for a long time that there are some words in our lexicon that we hang onto in the mistaken belief that our spelling them with tiles on a board strips them of their power to cause harm,” Chew said.

It is not hard to unlearn 238 words (including inflections), none of which are high-probability, and all of which have offensive meanings that are easy to remember.”

Oh darn! That means I’m no longer able to use the 7-word Scrabbles dimwits, libtard, and dipshit. Guess I’ll have to find another set of words to describe the leftest commie pinko S.O.B, P.O.S. terrorist traitor scumbags who are hell bent on destroying this country and wiping all its history from the face of the earth.BTW. I wonder if they are also going to eliminate the two 7-word Scrabbles “traitor” and “scumbag.” Probably not. That would eliminate two gratuitous insults the ass-wipes use to describe our duly elected and embattled President Trump.

Good thing “pompous” and “foolish” can be spelled with 7 letters so we can still capture the essence of those who make such rules.

Will I still be able to use “shemale”, “faggots”, “negroid”, “mooslime”?

You can NOT use the terms “negro” or “negroid” anymore, according to the PC culture. I found out when I asked “Alexa” to define both and got silence (“I’d rather not answer that”). Ditto for “oriental”. Now you have to say “Asian”, which now means everything from Russian to oriental to Indian and beyond. It’s ridiculous. And forget about “redskins”, “braves”, “warriors”, even “Indians” anymore. They have changed the names of both local high school and college teams here recently lest they offend the local tribal folk (of which I know none). Yet they still call my people hillbillies… We… Read more »

Have they latched onto the word “niggardly” yet? Look it up. It means stingy, or a purposely small amount….a with-holding, etc. Bet no one knows about this one yet….until they read this post and then maybe it will go viral….a big foo-fra to get this word out of the dictionary just b/c of the way it sounds. Can’t wait to see reaction. In one part of my life I was an English teacher, & still teach ESL students within my other assignment(s). The average native English speaker, even after K-12 education, writes/ speaks on a 4th-grade level. This word is… Read more »

I have lived so long, and worked for US Public Health Service, Indian Health,(in my early years) that the tribes wanted to be referred to as “Native Americans” and then they changed it back to “Indians” and now I don’t know what they want to be called…back to “Native Americans again…or just “Natives?” Where is Shakespeare when you need him? (A rose by any other name…yatta yatta….?)

I wonder if Geroge Orwell could ever have imagined that in 21st-century America there would be a non-government Ministry of Thought by privately-owned business corporations, the media, Hollywood, and self-censoring individuals.

So… I guess George Carlin’s 7 words would probably be off the charts, too.

I think Scrabble just shot down the memory hole.
