At 7:04 pm last night, the Mitt Romney campaign chose an iPhone app to announce the selection of Congressman Paul Ryan as the Republican vice presidential candidate. A formal press release followed:
MITT ROMNEY & PAUL RYAN: AMERICA’S COMEBACK TEAM
Boston, MA – Mitt Romney today announced Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan as his Vice Presidential running mate. Below is Congressman Ryan’s biography:
U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan is in his seventh term in Congress representing Wisconsin’s First Congressional District.  He is Chairman of the House Budget Committee, where he has worked tirelessly leading the effort to reign in federal spending and increase accountability to taxpayers. He also serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, where he has focused on simplifying the tax code and making health care more affordable and accessible.
In January 2010, Ryan gained attention nationwide after unveiling his “Roadmap for America’s Future,” a proposal to eliminate the federal deficit, reform the tax code, and preserve entitlements for future generations.
Representative Ryan was born in Janesville, Wisconsin on January 29, 1970. A fifth-generation Wisconsin native, Ryan was the youngest of four children born to Paul Ryan Sr., who worked as an attorney, and Betty, a stay-at-home mom.
In April 2000, Ryan proposed to Janna Little, a native Oklahoman, at one of his favorite fishing spots, Big St. Germain Lake in Wisconsin. Later that year, the two were married in Oklahoma City.

42-year-old Paul Davis Ryan (R-Wisconsin) has a B.A. in economics and political science. Widely considered to be one of the smartest in Congress, Ryan was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1999. Known for his views on economic policy, Ryan is chair of the House Budget Committee, where he has played a prominent role in drafting and promoting the Republican Party’s long-term budget proposals. As an alternative to the POS’s 2012 budget proposal, Ryan introduced The Path to Prosperity plan in April 2011, which included controversial changes to Medicare. He then helped introduce The Path to Prosperity: A Blueprint for American Renewal in March 2012, in response to the POS’s 2013 budget.
Married since 2000, Ryan and his wife, tax attorney Janna Little, have a daughter and two sons. An observant Roman Catholic, Ryan is a fitness enthusiast and promotes fitness as a daily routine for young people, mindful that his father, grandfather and great-grandfather had all died of heart attacks in their 50s. Ryan is careful about what he eats, performs an intense cross-training routine known as P90X most mornings, and has made close to 40 climbs of Colorado’s “Fourteeners” (14,000-ft peaks).
Here’s some of Paul Ryan’s voting record. He’s voted in favor of:

  • Auditing the Federal Reserve
  • Repealing Obamacare
  • Civil contempt charge against Attorney General Eric Holder (over his refusal to hand over documents on “Fast and Furious”)

I’m over the moon with this bold VP choice!

Romney’s VP pick shows that:
1. He means to court and reassure Christians.
2. He is dead serious about fixing our country’s gargantuan economic problems:

  • America is more than $16 trillion in debt, which is 102% of our GDP — a percentage that economists war is dangerous.
  • Americans have lost 40% of our net worth in just three years, 2007 to 2010.
  • Entitlements now make up over half of federal government spending.
  • More Americans (46 million) than ever in U.S. history are on food stamps.
  • More Americans (28 million of working age) than ever in U.S. history are on Social Security Disability (SSD), which is only one reason why SSD will be the first entitlement program to go broke by 2016 in just 4 years. That, in turn, will trigger a 21% cut in recipients’ “benefits.”
  • The main Social Security fund itself will be exhausted in 2033. [Read more here.]
  • As for Medicare, whether older Americans like it or not, the plain fact is that like the other entitlement programs, it is broken. More and more doctors are opting out of Medicare. A 2008 survey found that in just one state — Texas — 42% of doctors said they were no longer accepting all new Medicare patients because Congress had made doing so cost-prohibitive. Among primary-care doctors, the percentage was 62%.

Sound off about Mitt’s VP choice in our quickie poll!

Update: Paul Ryan is strongly pro-life!!!!  WooHoo!!!!

  1. I like this! Plus he’s already been through the media exposure. They SRM will not be able to mess with him like they did Palin.

  2. This is the best thing ever! I was concerned with all the “usual” suspects to speak at the convention I was worried we was going to get stuck with another “noodle”. Also the libs and the MSM is already going bonkers over Romney’s pick, that alone says a lot.

  3. He stood up to Obummer and schooled him on the health care thing. He’s young, vibrant, christian, and strong. Love him!!

  4. 🙂

  5. I feel like this can be “Morning in America” again!!

  6. As with McCain/Palin , I like Ryan (favorite son) better than
I do Plastic Willard who banned ‘scary’ guns (i.e. M-16’s)in Mass.
because it was his ‘job’ to reach a compromise….
…but will I hold my nose again for expediencies sake?

  7. An excellent choice that reveals Mitt to be a hard thinker and deadly serious about ousting the POS and restoring America. The only question I have about Paul Ryan is, does he have what it takes to match the extraordinary intellect of Joe “Bite Me” Biden? LOL

  8. Now can we just flip the ticket and let Paul Ryan run against the Dear Ruler instead of Romney the Clueless?
Since Mittens utterly refuses to go after Obama, maybe Ryan will.

I was hoping for a Ryan pick. I’ve liked him since hearing him comment on his proposed budget on Glenn Beck maybe two years ago. Heard him today with Romney. Maybe now I can get enthusiastic about voting Republican this presidential election.

  10. I’m over the moon for this pick too!

  11. I am very happy with Governor Romney’s pick of Congressman Ryan. First, he is a natural born citizen. Second, he has served in Congress and has been aggressive in his quest for fiscal responsibility. He appears to be a man of character, faith and courage. May God bless our country and bring us out of darkness.

  12. I like it! I like it a lot! Even from an old advertising agency employee’s perspective, it’s a great pick, “Romney-Ryan” rolls right off the tongue, is easy to remember, has alliteration which is good for memory…and what does “Obama-Biden” have? Ugh, sounds like a syndrome.

  13. Paul Ryan is a great choice!!!! I am so glad Romney chose hium! I am so encouraged! God speed to themm, we need them

  14. Ugh, not cool!

If i recall correctly savage did the same thing when mcain picked palin . He later said he was wrong because she energized the party.

  16. Where does he stand on backing the Syrian rebels? Where does he stand on Fast and Furious? Where does he stand on THE birth certificate? We need a voice that will lspeak against conflict that could lead us into thermonuclear war, a voice that will demand that the Obama Administration step down because of funding weapons to Mexican drug cartels, and we need a voice who will speak in support of those who are faithfully looking into the documents that are supposed to support the President’s claim of legitimacy to occupy the presidency. As well as that, we need an economist who will speak up for the Lawsky, the regulator who is challenging the right of the Chartered Standard Bank to have a license to operate in the US becuase they were channelling money to people that they covered up the identiy of, and challenge Geithner in his support of this banking aberation as well as challenge him on covering up the LIBOR scandal as well as the endless bank bailouts. Someone who will support the reinstatement of Glass Steagall and someone who is familiar with the idea of a Credit System as opposed to the current monetary system of the oligarchs that is crumbling as we speak. His religious beliefs should enable him to stand up for what is right NO MATTER WHAT. What is his position on Mr. Romney’s mormonism? When push comes to shove, is his character strong enough to tell Obama like it REALLY IS and hand him his marching papers?
We need someone who has a vision for the future of generations of the human species to come………………..the list of things that need addressing come flooding into my mind, the defense secrets leakages, the indefinite detantions, the assassination of Americans, the drones, and on and on.
    Is he annointed?

  17. West would be great, for sure. Yet he said from the beginning he wanted to fulfill his current position. I expect to see him on the next ticket.

  18. I think the answer is somewhere in between the Democratic & Republican platforms. While the Dems have gone spend-crazy, the Rep platform will only serve to grow a cut-throat society where the unemployed may turn to controlled-substance sales & theft to support themselves. Lets face it, gainful employment simply won’t be available. Even households w/ 2-3 minimum-wage jobs won’t be able to survive.
