KHOU: An armed robber ended up in the emergency room late Sunday after he tried to hold up a retired federal agent outside his brother-in-law’s northwest Harris County (Texas) home, constables said.
According to Harris County Precinct 4, the federal agent and three of his family members had just left a funeral and were returning to their home in the 17000 block of Ponderosa Pines Drive around 10:30 p.m.
The victims told authorities the gunman approached as soon as the last person was out of the family’s truck. The suspect, wearing a bandanna or t-shirt over his face, then demanded money. The suspected bad guy fired one shot, and the retired agent returned fire, hitting the gunman at least twice.
The injured robber ran to a waiting car with other suspects inside and sped away, authorities said. Constables said the suspect later turned up at a nearby hospital. None of the family members were injured.
Neighbors waking up to the news were on edge early Monday. “I have grandkids, and my husband and I will be out at night — the way he works and everything – I think I might start taking gun classes for protection,” said Ellen Flemings.
Detectives believe the men responsible in the attempted robbery may have been involved in similar crimes along FM-1960 on Sunday night.
