'Racially insensitive' Ortiz bobblehead pulled before baseball game

I have no idea why this bobblehead is deemed “racially insensitive” – I just don’t see it. It’s probably because of my white privilege.

Via AP: The Boston Red Sox canceled a David Ortiz bobblehead promotion Tuesday night when the figurine turned out to be ”racially insensitive,” said team president Sam Kennedy.
The bobblehead depicts Ortiz addressing fans at Fenway Park following the Boston Marathon bombings, but Kennedy said it didn’t much resemble the retiring slugger and was not fit for distribution.
Kennedy saw the final version of the bobblehead for the first time Tuesday afternoon after they were delivered.

”My two immediate reactions were first, it was a really inaccurate portrayal of what he looks like,” Kennedy told The Associated Press. ”My personal reaction was it was offensive and, to me, kind of appeared racially insensitive. I just had a bad reaction.”
He then held a meeting with several team officials.
”My gut feeling was if I have that negative reaction then our fans may as well,” he said. ”We just made the decision to scrap the whole thing. We apologize to everyone tonight and will make it up to fans.”
The giveaway was supposed to be for the first 15,000 fans at Tuesday’s game against the Yankees. To make up for the inconvenience, any fan holding a ticket to the game will be able to get a new Ortiz bobblehead once they are reproduced.
The rejected bobblehead was made by BDA, Inc., and the company will also produce the replacements.
”We value our decades-long relationship with the Red Sox organization and its decision to postpone Tuesday’s David Ortiz bobblehead giveaway,” BDA said in a statement. ”We’re currently working closely with the Red Sox to ensure the team and its fans receive a quality product.”
The Red Sox sent out a statement and apology via their website and social media several hours before a 5-3 win over the Yankees. ”We’re going to redo them and get them right and apologize for the disappointment for anyone tonight,” Kennedy said.

Only thing I see , the lips look really strange . Did they bother to ask Ortiz about his thoughts on it ? Probably not . Another white lib with a guilt complex .
Couldn’t help but notice the last name ; is he a ” Kennedy ” ?

That’s my guess too — those pale lips. But why the wuss Sam Kennedy finds the lips “racially insensitive” is a mystery.

i’m guessing it’s offensive, because of the way his face resembles someone in “blackface”.

Ah hah! I think you’ve done it. “Mammy, how I love ya, how I love ya…..”. Al Jolson honorary BLM member. Why its an outrage! Imagine, there may be a “person of color” somewhere who has their teentsy-weentsy feelings hurt. That’s why we must go to our “mother”, the government, to ask for guidance on what is allowable to say lest we sin against political correctness. We need to carve out some land somewhere for these people. Antarctica sounds promising. They could all be sent there where they could happily tell each other what to do and constantly check each… Read more »

No doubt the bobbleheads were made in China . . . since when can you get premo manufacturing from them. They would not be aware of the white lips issue, since they are from a totally different culture.

We should leave judgment of the artwork to Traildust, but I see it as the “work” of one who did not take the time to create an acceptable product. We are presented a sunglass-wearing Al Jolson Blackface on the body of a pencil-necked geek. Ortiz is generally known for his good nature, charity work, and outstanding athletic ability. For any age, he had a very great year, but, at forty, it is exceptional. Maybe he will see Mr. Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, after the season and ask if he could take the position Vince Wilfork once held.… Read more »

Check this out. This is our “BLM” remembrance of “Sweet Michael Brown”. Notice the guy in the street, wearing black, at night. Notice the cops sitting across the street. Notice that nobody does anything.
Some clown (or clowns) run around shooting (at the car?) and apparently hit someone. It’s probably due to that style of canting the weapon to look kool.
Lastly, note that our victim is still lying, unattended, some time later. This strategy doesn’t seem to be working out, is it?
