President Trump discharging federal student loan debt of totally and permanently disabled veterans

Excerpts from the White House Memorandum:

“For the last decade, veterans seeking loan discharges have been required to submit an application to the Secretary of Education with proof of their disabilities obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The process has been overly complicated and difficult, and prevented too many of our veterans from receiving the relief for which they are eligible. This has inflicted significant hardship and serious harm on these veterans and has frustrated the intent of the Congress that their Federal student loan debt be discharged.

Only half of the approximately 50,000 totally and permanently disabled veterans who currently qualify for the discharge of their Federal student loan debt have availed themselves of the benefits provided to them by the Higher Education Act.

Accordingly, by the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, and to express the gratitude of our Nation for the service of our totally and permanently disabled veterans, I hereby direct the following:

It shall be the policy of the Federal Government to facilitate — in a manner that is quick, efficient, and minimally burdensome — the discharge of Federal student loan debt for totally and permanently disabled veterans.

The Secretary of Education is hereby directed to develop as soon as practicable a process, consistent with applicable law, to facilitate the swift and effective discharge of the Federal student loan debt of totally and permanently disabled veterans pursuant to [USC sections listed].”

According to Breitbart, President Trump made the following statement: “Veterans who have made such enormous sacrifices for our country should not be asked to pay any more, rather it is America who owes our heroes a supreme debt of gratitude.”

President Trump tweeted the following:

“It was my honor to sign a Presidential Memorandum facilitating the cancellation of student loan debt for 25K of our most severely disabled Veterans. With today’s order, we express the everlasting love & loyalty of a truly grateful Nation. God bless our Vets, & God Bless America!”

“Veterans who have made such enormous sacrifices for our country should not be asked to pay any more, rather it is America who owes our heroes a supreme debt of gratitude.” Donald J. Trump.
Indeed we owe them all, FREEDOM, we honor them for the valor of facing a fierce enemy uncertain of their fate while we are home on our easy chair listening to the news of our fallen soldiers. I’m the proud mom of a submariner in the Gulf war, two cousins -medics, and a major commander US AIRFORCE in the Middle East. All Cuban descendants.

1st step to voiding the 1 trillion of all college debt. And who pays for this??? There is the GI Bill and College fund…

Tax payer gets screwed again and so does your children with debt slavery. It will never end.

But is is okay, its a golden goose along with the military so its all okay and untouchable and bad to critize

Michael Garrison, SEMPER FI!!! I think that it is great that President Trump has done this. The people having their debt discharged have paid more than enough in service to America. Every time I see a veteran I think them for their service as well as present them with a challenge coin of their branch if I have one on me. It is the least I can do for someone that has protected the great Country that I love… GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Congrates, i spent 12. And during that time (93-05) I was not defending “freedom” for any American. Thanks for the down vote. It is good to know you agree there should be different classes to citizens.

As a Marine vet, I was poisoned at Camp Lejeune. Given radiation to the brain at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and was implanted with v2k.
The VA sux. They are nothing but assassin’s who finish what war started, the death of the soldier. If you’re a Freemason, they comfort you and lavish you. If not….THEY KILL YOU. This is fact.

There was a big internal up roar while I was serving. Someone realized e-7 and above promotions had something in common and it was not merit. Ppl were wearing mason rings for their offical photos. After all rings, except wedding rings had to be removed.

As a targeted Marine Vet, I DO NOT TRUST THIS GOVERNMENT OR THE VA TO DO ANYTHING BUT DESTROY AND KILL.
I LOVE the True Americans, and would sacrifice everything ALL OVER AGAIN for YOU, AND ONLY YOU.

I hate the VA with such a passion!!!!
Remember this folks, this move to erase these loans ISN’T TO HELP THE VETS…its to help the BANKS.
