Powerful Demonrat Quits

Another Demonrat abandons ship

Here’s another piece of good news, along with the news that the third and last Navy SEAL is acquitted of beating up an Iraqi.
The UK’s Telegraph reports on May 6, 2010, that Congressman David Obey of Wisconsin, 71, a leading Demonrat and chairman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee has announced his retirement. The news is a blow to the Demonrat party and their hopes of defending their majority this November.
Obey has served in the House for more than 40 years. In the past he has routinely and easily won re-election, but faced a potentially difficult re-election campaign ahead of the November voting.

“There is a time to stay and a time to go,” he told reporters. “And this is my time to go.” He said he felt his district “is ready for someone new to make a fresh start.” Blah, blah, blah.

Sean Duffy, 38, a Republican district attorney, is seen as the favoured candidate in his party’s primary, and his candidacy has attracted the backing of Republicans in Washington as well as Sarah Palin and TEA party activists.
