Pop Culture Satanists

In the last couple of days, some of us on FOTM (see the comments section of the post, “Can Newt be Trusted?“) engaged each other in a lively debate about the curious “horns” hand signal that some politicians and pop stars make.

To some, they’re making the devil’s horns. Others say it’s really the “I luv u” or “rock on” signings at a rock or metal concert.

Christians have had the sign of the cross, holy hymns and sacred songs for centuries. Why is it incredible that the opposing side also have theirs?
Take a look at this video of a live performance of a death metal group called Possessed, in Berkeley in 1985. [Warning: suffocating spiritual darkness]
Wikipedia says:

Possessed is an American death metal band, originally formed in 1983. Noted for their fast style of playing and Jeff Becerra’s guttural vocals, they have been cited as a great influence on the death metal genre. In fact, the band’s influence on the genre is so great, they are sometimes called the first band in the death metal genre. Possessed are often cited as the first death metal band, largely because of the early use of grunted vocals. Satanic themes they had become noted for. Lyrically, most of Possessed’s songs focused on Satanism and death. The band’s efforts on [their first album] Seven Churches have been called an influence by groups like Death, Pestilence, Sepultura, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, Vader, God Dethroned and Amon Amarth.

The band originated in the San Francisco Bay Area, California in 1983, when guitarist Mike Torrao and drummer Mike Sus’s garage band recruited Jeff Becerra following the suicide of vocalist Barry Fisk. In 1990, Jeff Becerra was paralyzed from the waist down following a shooting incident.

Did you know that the popular hip-hop artist Jay-Z, with a net worth of over $150 million and married to Beyonce Knowles, has a song to “Lucifer” in his 2003 The Black Album? ( H/t NiceneTruth.com)

Bob Larsen out of Denver used to have an entire ministry devoted to the eevils of Rock and Roll. I remember the furor over Amy Grant (El Shaddai)
“selling out ” and recording a couple of songs that weren’t ‘church-lady’ approved. Counter and synchopated tempo (as in Chopin and Bach) were quite the rage. back when…but add drugs and licentiousness and suddenly we’re in another epidemic of misguided youth…..and don’t get me started on rap 🙁

Got ‘cha…those guys are best kept away from
…seems like they’re in the “god” business.

Just like left/liberals do… hmm, no wonder.

Funny, I have seen Rush play live 16 times, Styx five times, the Who four times, Yes three times, Kansas, Jethro Tull, Bad Company, Van Halen twice, and Eric Clapton once, yet I have never heard of any of the bands mentioned in this post.
LOL – Maybe I’ve been hanging with the wrong crowd?

Strange, was there suppose to be music on that video? I never even heard of death rock, much less the groups playing it, but I have heard of JayZ, Beyonce and Led Zepplin…

Wow …the things you miss when you’re out of
circulation 🙂 I try to keep up….even find an
occasional song I like on the radio if I can understand
the lyrics. It seems as if the decent has accelerated
in the last half dozen years. At least my boys have
moderated what they play…lest I turn the station to
country or polka 🙂
