Pentagon may court martial soldiers for sharing their Christian faith

CensorshipNo First Amendment right of free speech for U.S. soldiers!

Three days ago, our Trail Dust published a post “Christianity to be outlawed in US Military,” on Mikey Weinstein, founder of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), consulting with the Pentagon to develop new policies on religious tolerance [sic], including a policy for court-martialing military chaplains who share the Christian Gospel during spiritual counseling of American troops.
Now we have a statement from the Pentagon confirming that not only will military chaplains be court martialed, any soldier who engages in “religious proselytization” shares their Christian faith with another will also be subjected to court martials and “non-judicial punishments.”
Mikey Weinstein
Ken Kuklowski reports for, May 1, 2013, that the statement, which was released to Fox News, says “Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense…. Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis….”
Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians–including chaplains–sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of “treason,” and of committing an act of “spiritual rape” as serious a crime as “sexual assault.” He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are “enemies of the Constitution.”
Being convicted in a court martial means that a soldier has committed a crime under federal military law. Punishment for a court martial can include imprisonment and being dishonorably discharged from the military.
This new regulation would severely limit expressions of faith in the military, even on a one-to-one basis between close friends. It could also effectively abolish the position of chaplain in the military, as it would not allow chaplains (or any service members, for that matter), to say anything about their faith that others say led them to think they were being encouraged to make faith part of their life. It’s difficult to imagine how a member of the clergy could give spiritual counseling without saying anything that might be perceived in that fashion.
Todd Starnes reports for Fox News, April 30, 2013:

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation is calling on the Air Force to enforce a regulation that they believe calls for the court martial of any service member caught proselytizing.
[…] Mikey Weinstein and others from his organization met privately with Pentagon officials on April 23. He said U.S. troops who proselytize are guilty of sedition and treason and should be punished – by the hundreds if necessary – to stave off what he called a “tidal wave of fundamentalists.”
“Someone needs to be punished for this,” Weinstein told Fox News. “Until the Air Force or Army or Navy or Marine Corps punishes a member of the military for unconstitutional religious proselytizing and oppression, we will never have the ability to stop this horrible, horrendous, dehumanizing behavior.”
[…] He compared the act of proselytizing to rape. […] In an interview with the Washington Post, Weinstein called proselytizing a “national security threat.”

In response to the Pentagon’s plans, retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, who is now executive vice president of the Family Research Council (FRC), said on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning:
“It’s a matter of what do they mean by ‘proselytizing.’ …I think they’ve got their definitions a little confused. If you’re talking about coercion that’s one thing, but if you’re talking about the free exercise of our faith as individual soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, especially for the chaplains, they I think the worst thing we can do is stop the ability for a soldier to be able to exercise his faith.”
FRC has launched a petition here which has already collected over 40,000 signatures, calling on Secretary Hagel is stop working with Weinstein and his anti-Christian organization to develop military policy regarding religious faith.

I have an idea:

What if every Christian soldier in the U.S. military shares his/her Christian faith with another Christian soldier? I’d like to see that boot-lickin’ suck-up Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Martin Dempsey court-martial tens of thousands of our soldiers!

UPDATE (May 2):

A day after I published this post comes news that the Pentagon is backing off. From Bob Unruh for WND:
The Pentagon announced today that military members who want to talk about their faith with other members have every right to do so, backtracking on a previous warning against “proselytizing,” which it said could be subject to court-martial. The statement from Lt. Cmdr. Nathan Christensen said the Department of Defense “never and will never single out a particular religious group for persecution or prosecution.”

  1. Does anyone know if Weinstein is a convert is Islam? They are (Jews turned muslim) a rather dangerous lot. I know one or two.

    • His entry in Wikipedia makes no mention what his religion is or if he even has one. No hint at all of him converting to Islam. Weinstein seems to be a Jew in his self-identity through and through, claiming that he was subjected to antisemitic attacks by “fundamentalist Christians” when he was in the military — and his sons too. He’s a former US Air Force officer, and 5 times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. God help us.

  2. This administration’s blatant anti-Christian policies tick me off. Obama needs to be impeached for violating the Constitution multiple times. This persecution of Christians needs to stop.

  3. Great (and absolutely chilling) post Dr. Eowyn,
The term, “President Lucifer,” becomes all the more accurate.

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.”

            — Isaiah 54:17 KJV

  4. What if every Christian soldier in the U.S. military shares his/her Christian faith with another Christian soldier? I’d like to see that boot-lickin’ suck-up Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Martin Dempsey court-martial tens of thousands of our soldiers!

  5. I’d like to know who funds the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. It sounds like a Rockefeller or Soros type of organization.
According to wikipedia, Weinstein files a lot of lawsuits (that takes time and money):
In October 6, 2005, Weinstein sued the United States Air Force for failing to prevent religious proselytizing in the U.S. Air Force. U.S. District Judge James A. Parker dismissed the case of Weinstein v. U.S. Air Force and wrote:[10]
No Plaintiff claims to have personally experienced any of the things described under ‘Factual Allegations’… while at the Academy or after leaving the Academy. The only fair reading of Plaintiffs’ factual allegations limits them to practices and events at the Academy and policies as they affect persons, other than Plaintiffs, at the Academy…Not a single Plaintiff has alleged any personal factual situation that has allegedly impinged on that Plaintiff’s constitutional rights since the Plaintiff left the Academy.
On September 17, 2007, Weinstein and the MRFF filed a federal lawsuit[11] in Kansas City, Kansas, against Defense Secretary Robert Gates, and Major Freddy J. Welborn, accusing them of allowing a “pervasive and pernicious pattern and practice of unconstitutional religious rape of freedoms of our U.S. military.[12] On March 5, 2008, the lawsuit was re-filed to include allegations that co-plaintiff Army Specialist Jeremy Hall was denied a promotion due to the filing of the original lawsuit.[11]
Following the Fort Hood shooting, Weinstein suggested that proselytizing by “fundamentalist Christians” may have created a hostile environment that contributed to the psychological pressure on Major Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan reportedly claimed that he had faced harassing insults related to his Arab ethnic background and Islamic faith.[13] In November 2009, the Christian right American Family Association issued the statement “No More Muslims in the US Military”, which explicitly stated that Muslim military enlistees be barred from military service in the United States armed forces on the grounds that “…just as Christians are taught to imitate the life of Christ, so Muslims are taught to imitate the Prophet in all things. Yesterday, Nidal Malik Hasan was simply being a good Muslim.” [14] MRFF founder and president Mikey Weinstein ‘s denunciation of the AFA position as “bigoted, racist, [and] vile” was featured prominently by Hatewatch, the official blog of the Southern Poverty Law Center civil rights organization.[15] Mainstream Jewish groups generally declined to comment on the shooting at Fort Hood.[16]

  6. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this most significant post. The king not only is a rabid abortion promoter, he desires to take away from Americans their religious liberty granted to them under the U.S. Constitution, which he would like to trash all together. Along with the HHS Mandate (we also did a post regarding this travesty, a communication to Congress), now we have our American soldiers with their religious freedom being jeopardized. We live in dark times, and instead of having what is good and true being protected by the presidency, he is one of the leaders of this great darkness and is an enemy to freedom. Please Dear Lord Jesus Christ, help us against this great evil that we Americans are experiencing, that our wonderful soldiers are experiencing. Please send members of the Church Triumphant, the angels and the saints, in droves to earth to help us effectively win this battle!

  7. In the course of the left’s never-ending quest for freedom FROM religion, they are full-on determined to strip everybody else’s freedom TO PRACTICE religion, unless of course, the religion is islam and therefore granted protected status under leftist P/C, multi-culti ideology. Freaking hypocrites! I’ll say it straight up, this will not end here if the left gets it’s way. Soon they will grant islam a perverse type of “affirmative action,” preferential treatment/minority status. Either that, or they’ll simply look the other way when muslims do their thing, By that time, muslims will have grown and asserted themselves enough to call all the shots, write the narrative, so to speak, and render the political left irrelevant and totally dhimmified.
This is disgusting, unsettling, a total embarrasment, and quite chilling to contemplate. The petition is duly signed.

    • Ditto!!! Petition signed.

      • Trail Dust, the blatant hypocracy and relentless, remorseless attacks upon our culture, our very Western Civilization infuriates me to no end. In all my 22+ years of soldiering, active and National Guard, never once did I feel persecuted, picked on, or otherwise looked over for promotion, awards, etc. on the count of me not being a practicing Christian. Nor do I recall anybody else suffering such treatment. All this Christian-bashing crap is nothing short of a personal vendetta to slake the hatred of Christians and Christianity, held by people with a leftist, secular ideological bent. This Mikey Weinstein creep is literally frothing and foaming out the mouth like a raving madman. He is an extremist to his very rotten core, and an extremely dangerous, unstable person to boot, who has no business trying to influence DoD policy with extremely questionable, projectionistic tripe of highly dubious constitutional merit.
In other words, he ain’t right in the head, and apparently, neither are those who view his agenda favorably. There are far too many of those types in important positions. They need to be thoroughly purged.

        • Every last one Randy, including the Commander in Chief, who needs to find a new line of work. We are looking at the relentless implementation of a marxist agenda that has been planned for many years.
WE DID NOT DO THIS. This president has been imposed on us thru monumental voter fraud.

  8. Weird, WEINSTEIN is a jew ,and you are bashing muslims??!!!A muslim didnt set up this organization

    • A closet muslim in the white house is empowering Mr. Weinstein’s organization in their efforts to subvert the military. If he can drive the Christians out of the military, then he can begin to fill the void with his own people who will do his bidding.

  9. And we just know the republicans are going to be all over this any minute now.
And no, I’m not holding my breath.

  10. Come, Lord Jesus!

  11. I am ashamed of this country today. We will not be silenced. Keep pushing us. We will fight back. Christianity is FAR more important than this government or country.

  12. What do we need the Pentagon for? What do we need the military for?
To guard the poppy fields in Afganistan and promote the gay lesbian lifestyle.
To enforce the ban on sharing the Gospel? We need to call our Congressmen and women and say that we won’t pay for this. If Mr Weinstein can put his money where his mouth is he can take over the Pentagon expense account. Don’t we have any say in what the government spends money on? Are they going to freeze people’s depositis to pay for the Pentagon to ban Christianity amongst the military? What happened to free speech? The Constitution will protect us from this type of tyranny and we need to stand up for it on all accounts, not just little parts of it from time to time. It’s the foundation of our republic’s standard of freedom.
We fought so hard for freedom and now we just allow it to be trashed.
I say The Blood of Jesus is against anyone who is going along with this and anyone else who is allowing the Constitution to be trashed. We need the courage of David son of Jesse to stand up to this Goliath.
Jesus knew that the apostles were not up to carrying out the Great Commission until they were endowed with the power from high, the unleashing of the Holy Spirit. We have to tarry in Jerusalem until we are all endowed with power from on high. And then, and then…………………………

  13. CBN just brought this story into their news round-up. This will force the subject onto FoxNews and into the talk circuit. I predict that inside a week, the white house will drop it like a hot potato.

    • I hope you’re right, TD. But Breitbart’s source is Fox News! (I added excerpts from Todd Starnes’ article for Fox, to this post late yesterday.)

      • Wow! I didn’t know that, Dr. E.
I’m going to hold to my prediction for the moment because the facts are so inflammatory that, once begun, will run its course.
(Then again, in the 1970s, I was one of the dummies who supported Jimmy Carter. So please put my rantings into the proper context.)

      • Actually Dr. Eowyn, this report appears to be largely a disinfo piece, *but* not typical disinfo, In checking sources (which was difficult because starnes did not see fit to link to the air force publication quoted: or other rather important info like the statements themselves, the exact policy, etc. bad reporting, very bad reporting.) It would seem Starnes wrote the piece largely omitting information to force a emotionally-loaded conclusion (a “seed” for disinfo), it can later be seen in “full bloom” with Mr. Klukowski’s piece on breitbart, making claims that it would seem were unfounded.
Put plainly, this is a disinfo piece of a different sort (mixed-bag type), the concept is true (that christianity is accosted by the state and military systems) But the story is mostly false, born out of misquoting and selectively quoting out of context, with some truthful elements (weinstein is an anti-theist hatemonger, the military does have a policy of religious neutrality, etc. and there may have been a meeting, but I have yet to see the minutes from that meeting, or the actual pentagon statements themselves.) The full statement by the pentagon spokesperson can be read here: The final question is, why such an odd disinfo piece relaying a true subject matter, but falsifying other elements? I think the purpose is to make other legitimate articles on the subject of Christian persecution seem to be hyperbole by association, in short, a Defamation tactic, to harden the mind of readers who will look into sources somewhat, but won’t look far enough.
If it is any consolation to you and TD, there is proof of govt. and military lumping Christianity in with terrorist stuff, which can be found at (look for materials relating to law enforcement training and “sovereign citizens” which is one label they stick on Christian folk)
        Best Regards.

  14. You got to get the zealots and dual citizens out of all positions of authority.

  15. I just noticed that these posts about the betrayal of Christians in the military are still trending super hot! That should mean that people are getting seriously involved with the story, and will force it into the main stream media.

  16. If they can drive Christians out of the armed forces, it would then be easier to begin placing more pre-programed people who won’t object to orders that normal soldiers would disobey.

  17. Americans – Like Nazi Germans – Don’t Notice that All of Our Rights Are Slipping Away (Part 2)!
    “Food For Thought”
    God Bless America.
    Semper Fi!

  18. I’m sure the Romans would agree with his definition of “religious freedom” as persecution of Christians… most jihadists would, too.

  19. Weinstein’ s Hate-filled comments are no different from the ADL who spew pretty much the same thing. Clearly Weinstein and organizations like the AdL want to outlaw Christianity because it’s moral beliefs are not in line with progressive immorality—the mass murder of the unborn and soon newborn infants will be fair game. They want to corrupt society with spreading perversion and homosexuality as a means to drastically reduce the population and to destroy the traditional family thus leaving the individual at the mercy of the state. This is pure evil at its worst and it should be characterized as such.

    • Let’s not draw moral equivalence between a clown like Mikey Weinstein and everyone at the ADL.
Its too big a blanket statement, just like, “all Jews”, or “all Christians” or “all Muslims”.

      • To trail dust try reading Foxman’s rhetoric it is very similar to Weinstein”s Foxman want to expurgate the New Testatment while telling Chrisitians what they can and can’t believe and/or say publicly. He also wants to force Christians to change their positions on abortion and homosexuality while trying to shame them, out of existence for clinging to such views. The aDL is not a force for justice and freedom it is for imposing a radical left-wing Jewish progressive agenda down our throats. And it will seek to intimidate and/or destroy the reputations and livelihoods of anyone who dares to oppose them. While the ADL is a totally Jewish run organization it does not represent the views of all Jews and because it is Jewish run this by itself does not entitle it to a free pass from criticism and condemnation as much as Foxman tries to shield himself and his organization in this manner.

        • traildustfotm

          Hi Les,
I know the ADL has some troubling zealots. The point I’m trying to make is that I have known good people in that organization as well as idiots.

  20. The Government of the United States of America has become A Left Wing Hate Group!

  21. traildustfotm

Sean Hannity is on the subject right now. That means that it can’t be swept under the rug. It will not go quietly away.

  22. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a Standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19). I truly feel very sorry for those enemies of the Cross…Weinstein, Obama, to name just a few. Their future is definitely one that will be filled with eternal terrors.
