The working, tax-paying people of America are taking this country back.
It is not just Demonrats whose reëlection is in trouble. RINOs (Republicans in name only), too, are an endangered species.
In the U.S. Senate since 1992, Bob Bennett (R-Utah) has had a centrist RINO voting record for as many years. But Utah is a conservative state. Bennett not only is out of touch with the concerns of his constituents, he has stooped to outright lies in his campaign ads.
Last Saturday, May 8, Bennett lost his party’s nomination during the second round of voting at Uah’s GOP state convention Saturday, marking the fall of the first incumbent this volatile midterm election cycle. Bennett finished in third place behind Tea Party backed candidate Mike Lee and businessman Tim Bridgewater, who will advance to the third and final round.
As usual with defeated politicians, Bennett resorted to the blame game. Wiping away tears, he called the political atmosphere “toxic” and said it is “clear some of the votes I’ve cast have added to that toxic environment, looking back with one or two minor exceptions, I wouldn’t cast any any differently, even if I knew it would cost me my career.”
With Bennett gone, Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater now advance to the next round of balloting in Utah – if neither of them receives 60% of the vote, there will be a primary on June 22. Lee appears to be a genuine conservative. In his convention speech, he vowed:
“I will fight every day as your U.S. senator for limited government, to end the cradle-to-grave entitlement mentality, for a balanced budget, to protect our flag, our borders and our national security and for bills that can be read before they receive a final vote in congress.”
So the count is one RINO down and ___ to go!
