One Movie I Will Go See

Who is John Galt?

I’m not a big fan of liberal Hollyweird and rarely go to movies.  The last movie I did see was Gran Torino and that’s because I love Clint Eastwood. Coming to our theaters this April 15th is the new movie for Atlas Shrugged Part 1.  See movie trailer here at their official site. I love the person they chose to play Wesley Mouch, Michael Lerner.  Kinda looks like what I imagined him to be 🙂
For those unfamiliar with Atlas Shrugged, it is a novel by Ayn Rand, first published in 1957. The plot concerns the crumbling of the US economy due to collectivism and altruism, which Rand considered detrimental to society, and the identity of John Galt, the mysterious protagonist of the story, a man whose name is spoken chiefly in slang.  This book is about individuals who go against the sheeple, individuals bold enough to speak their minds, do their own thing, and seek their own happiness. In trying to do so, these individuals face a lot of peer pressure, including that from the government that is intent on them failing. In fact, pretty much everyone in the whole world disapproves of these people, who are trying to make better lives for themselves by embracing things like liberty and self-esteem.
Atlas Shrugged is a statement of Rand’s personal philosophy, the book expresses many of her views on religion, sex, politics, etc. Some conservatives don’t like the book for its atheist views and its upfront treatment of sex. Many liberals, of course, hate the book for its celebration of capitalism. I’m hoping like heck that Hollyweird doesn’t mess this one up!

  1. I read Atlas Shrugged this fall. I was amazed and horrifed to read the similarities with our government today and the government in the novel.
The rules and regulations compounded with political favoritism created devastation and it is a portend of things to come for us. A liberal friend was aghast when we started discussing it. She said,” It is just a novel, it isn’t real life!” But alas, it is real when you evaluate cap and trade, coal industry restrictions, agricultural controls. etc etc. Let us hope we have a happier ending to OUR story.

  2. It has been ages since I read Atlas Shrugged. I really don’t remember that much about it other than it was depressing as Hell, because even in my teens I could see what was happening to this country.
I have thought about plowing through it again thirty years later, but I might just go see the movie instead.

  3. I hope it makes tons of profit at the box office and rentals to give Hollywood a wake up call on what kind of movie people are willing to spend money to see.

  4. this is one I would like to see,and wouldn’t mind giving money to see it. Hollywood is on my dirty list,I won’t give them a red cent. Jon Voight and Kelsey Grammar are fighting the good fight, thats all I know of.

  5. i’m on page 615 of Atlas Shrugged right now. the looters and the moochers,
the book is eerie in that what was written so long ago is apparently taking root in this country right now. a nation run by mobsters (looters) who enact laws that no one can help but not break making everyone a criminal. i wonder was is going to star in this movie who will play Hank Reardon or Dagny Taggert?

  6. BORN 75 YEARS AGO , AND ONLY IN THE PAST YEAR HAS THE
KNOWLEDGE OF AYN RAND AND HER NOVEL “ATLAS SHRUGGED ”
COME TO MIND . BEING A SIMPLE MAN WITH LITTLE FORMAL EDUCATION , THE STORY AND REASONING IS A BIT LOFTY FOR
ME . THE PHILOSOPHY OF SO CALLED “ELITISTS ” WHO WOULD
CONTROL AND DOMINATE THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF EARTH
HAS ALWAYS SEEMED FOREIGN, REPULSIVE, AND EVIL ~ ONLY
SOMETHING SEEN IN MOVIES OF SUPERMAN AND JAMES BOND .
THERE IS A MUCH BETTER WAY OF LIFE AND LIVING , MAYBE
EXPRESSED BY DALE CARNEGIE , WHICH GOES :
” You can attain every goal you have in life ,
if you help others to attain their goals “.
