Obama’s EPA wants to regulate cow fart to fight “global warming”

cow fartThe Daily Caller reports, March 28, 2014:

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations.

This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990.

The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas.

Some of these methane emissions come from cow flatulence, exhaling and belching — other livestock animals release methane as well.

“Cows emit a massive amount of methane through belching, with a lesser amount through flatulence,” according to How Stuff Works. “Statistics vary regarding how much methane the average dairy cow expels. Some experts say 100 liters to 200 liters a day… while others say it’s up to 500 liters… a day. In any case, that’s a lot of methane, an amount comparable to the pollution produced by a car in a day.”

“Of all domestic animal types, beef and dairy cattle were by far the largest emitters of [methane],” according to an EPA analysis charting greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. Cows and other animals produce methane through digestion, which ferments the food of animals.

“During digestion, microbes resident in an animal’s digestive system ferment food consumed by the animal,” the EPA notes. “This microbial fermentation process, referred to as enteric fermentation, produces [methane] as a byproduct, which can be exhaled or eructated by the animal.”

It’s not just the dairy industry that the Obama administration is clamping down on. The White House is looking to regulate methane emissions across the economy from agriculture to oil and gas operations — all this despite methane emissions falling 11 percent since 1990.

Methane emissions have largely been reduced because of the incentive for companies to capture it and sell it for monetary gain. Oil and gas companies, for example, have been looking for ways to increasingly capture methane leaked from drilling operations which they can then sell.

“The industry has led efforts to reduce emissions of methane by developing new technologies and equipment, and recent studies show emissions are far lower than EPA projected just a few years ago,” said  Howard Feldman, head of scientific and regulatory affairs at the American Petroleum Institute. “Additional regulations are not necessary and could have a chilling effect on the American energy renaissance, our economy, and our national security.”

“Methane is natural gas that operators can bring to the market,” he added. “There is a built-in incentive to capture these emissions.”

Environmentalists have been pushing the Obama administration to crack down on methane emissions for some time, arguing that they drive global warming and pollute the air and water. Activists have argued that the methane leakage rate from natural gas operations is 50 percent higher than the EPA estimates.

“President Obama’s plan to reduce climate-disrupting methane pollution is an important step in reining in an out of control industry exempt from too many public health protections,” Deborah Nardone, campaign director of the Sierra Club’s Keeping Dirty Fuels in the Ground campaign. “However, even with the most rigorous methane controls and monitoring in place, we will still fall short of what is needed to fight climate disruption if we do not reduce our reliance on these dirty fossil fuels.”

Republicans and the oil and gas industry argue that the methane leakage rate has been estimated to be 50 times lower than the EPA’s estimate. The GOP argues that the EPA’s estimate is simply an attack on hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.

“The EPA has been on a witch hunt to shut down hydraulic fracturing, and yet again the evidence doesn’t back up their excessive claims,” said Louisiana Republican Sen. David Vitter. “All too often we see the Agency using flawed science for political purposes, but this report – partially funded by environmental activists no less – shows EPA’s emissions estimates from hydraulic fracturing are way off.”

  1. This is nothing more than tightening the stranglehold on the food supply.

  2. How about we start with the methane being loosed in DC! Big piles of it there!

  3.
  4. So the WA DC bloviators propose to reduce bovine methane, do they? I wonder which method they’ll propose, the Very Large Cork [VLC] method or the Very Large Match [VLM], or perhaps a biodynamic blend of the two? Either way, when this new program gets started, be sure to stand back: it’ll be a gas to watch!!

  5. OK, That means the government has to control all ruminants. That includes buffalo, deer, moose, and elk. Then BO needs to make up a treaty with the rest of the world to control their ruminants. Think of all the herds in Africa. Maybe we can send inspectors over there and check on them. They just have to be wary of the carnivores however. Carnivores think government employees are tasty.

  6. Sorry if I throw a cog in the wheel. Methane is a real problem, but it isn’t from the cows. The mainstream media cannot be trusted for ANYTHING, and unfortunately that even includes FOX. The problem is that geoengineering over the years has caused the Arctic ice cap to melt and then they freeze it over (with their airplane chemical tricks) but it’s now very thin. http://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/mass-methane-release-accelerating/ The media wants to distract us from this by all means possible, just like they distract us with the search for the missing plane. There are “methane hydrates” that had been frozen down deep (since Creation?) that are now releasing into the air. The geoengineers created a deadly loop, and they cannot seem to stop it. Now they are blaming cows!!

  7. This timed to coincide with the kabalified hokum “noah” movie, as well as with news playing, as I type this, warning about “global flooding due to warming”. Surely they must know this has been debunked so much that no one in their right mind will actually buy such malarkey? Not only is climate change/global warming/ whatever other name they append to the deceit not legitimate, but it is the opposite of what is happening, Niagra falls froze recently, when was the last time that happened? 1911, when there were considerably less “carbon emissions” than now, it has happened before, and it will naturally happen again. All of this is simply a scam for generating famine and death, by “carbon taxing” cows and other primary food sources that produce “methane” (expect the price of meat to skyrocket), by limiting the ability of people to keep warm in the cold (woodstoves are already well under attack by the EPA, look it up.) inducing higher poverty by ramping up the price of gas/petrol (because, y’know “carbon emissions”) and thereby reducing the ability for people to purchase food, and fuel all-around, to say nothing of a lack of produce due to the actions of trying to direct weather patterns… want california oranges? Expect to pay a hefty price as the whole state dries up, and blows away. Lastly of course, water will be driven up in value due to engineered scarcity.

All of this to kill off people, either slowly (via GMO soy, corn, and wheat, which is in virtually every food as lecithin, or chemical/poisonous mineral additaves that serve no valid purpose, mercury, fluoride, propyline glycol etc.) via famine, drought, exposure, or poisoning, or quickly (war, increasing stress on the common person, thereby causing increased suicide and/or fatal or debilitating crime, such as murder or rape). After all, a large population has a far higher variable for potential wildcards, that are uncontrolled, which would threaten the plans of the self-crowned followers of the devil. Remember the puppets of evil are not concerned about the environment, they have orders from their boss to *destroy* or *corrupt* all of original creation, because their boss thinks he can use them to remake the world in his image, and they are so deceived that they believe it, they think they will have a place in that world, they think they will be safe, in pride they believe they will be able to make “better” plants/food/water/dirt/people than God, and that is what they pin their hope on, and why they have absolutely no compunction against defiling their own “nests”.

    • Wow, LOTS of good stuff, Seumas, for which we thank you!

      • Happy to be of help Joseph, if it does indeed help. Given all these crazy shenanigans the would-be “governments” get into, I’m surprised anyone still takes any of them seriously. The idea of utilizing methane for an energy source was floated before back in the movie… Road Warrior/Mad Max wasn’t it? Lots of pig-farming-for-methane in that movie. Odd how movies (and in my experience, Anime especially) tend to have themes that are later acted upon in the real world… isn’t it?

    • “This timed to coincide with the kabalified hokum “noah” movie”

I noticed that too. Another example of Hollywood working hand-in-glove with TPTB.

    • “…, and that is what they PIN their hope on…”

Pin, did you say Pin? Ah, so now we know why the Nuke Summit attendees wore pyramid nuke pins! 🙂

Seriously, great points, agree 100% with all of them! We KNOW they WANT to destroy the earth (including our food, water, air, animals, etc.) because not only are they currently actually DOING it, but Scripture says they would:

“And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.” — Revelation 11:18.

  8. WOW! I like the part about “capturing their(bovine) emissions!” I’m just trying hard to visualize it. (?) Do we have to build a pipeline? Obama will veto it.

  9. We could run our cars with this methane. Replace the gas pumps at the gas stations with cows. We could call it Moo Gas. No more dependence on foreign oil!

    • Sign in front of the Moo Gas Station: “Don’t Pass Our Gas!”

(I do love the ideas of cows vs. gas pumps! Cute idea!)

  10. Reblogged this on Udderly Bovine and commented:
You can’t blame them for being naturally flatulent, but you can blame factory farming for feeding cows grains that make them fart more than a natural diet.
