Faced with the prospect that the Democrats may lose the Massachusetts Senate seat to Republican Scott Brown in today’s special election, three key Congressional Dems are already plotting to find ways to ram Obamacare down our throats.
Yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) insisted that “We will have health care one way or another.” Today, a top Senate Democrat for the first time said his party is prepared to deploy a controversial legislative tactic known as the “nuclear option” if Brown wins, which would break the Dems’s 60-vote, filibuster-proof majority at a critical time for Obamacare.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, said “there are options to still pursue health care.” First, the House could simply approve the Senate bill, sending it straight to President Obama’s desk. Then, the Senate could make changes to the bill by using the nuclear option, known formally as “reconciliation,” a tactic that would allow Democrats to adjust parts of health care reform with just a 51-vote majority.
Then, House Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) says because Vice President Joe Biden is out of town, in the event Scott Brown wins, his swearing in will be delayed “until Massachusetts gets all the right paperwork to Washington.” In the meantime, Paul G. Kirk, Jr., who was appointed Senator after Ted Kennedy died, will keep the job and cast the votes. But the truth is that Biden isn’t essential to the process, even though he is president of the Senate because there’s plenty of precedent for a swearing-in to be handled by substitutes.
Americans, remember what these Three Stooges said and did when they come up for reelection — Reid and Pelosi in November 2010, and Durbin in 2015! Throw the bums out.
