NZ police rescue hedgehog with head stuck in yogurt pot

Kind police officers in New Zealand came to the rescue of a hedgehog in distress, whose head was stuck in a yogurt container.
Adam Boult reports for The Telegraph, Feb. 14, 2017, that police in Arrowtown on New Zealand’s south island found a disoriented hedgehog with a yogurt pot wedged firmly on its head, “looking very drunk and walking into things”.
Posting the video clip of the hedgehog on Facebook, the officers wrote:

“After a brief foot pursuit the subject was cornered and the yoghurt pot removed. Crime prevention advice provided about going through other people’s rubbish. Lived to fight another day. This is not the first time we’ve dealt with disoriented hedgehogs, but we hope the prevention advice given will see a decrease in hedgehog food container related incidents.”

Here’s the video:
Hedgehogs seem to have a weakness for yogurt and a penchant to get their heads stuck in yogurt containers. Here’s a video taken in the daytime of another hedgehog rescue:

Hedgehogs are super little creatures. My grandfather had several as wild pets all his life. My grandparents used to set a ‘midnight feast’ of small bread cubes soaked in milk, each evening on on a stone workbench in the yard. The ‘draenogod’ were treasured because they kept pests out of the vegetable garden. Nature’s own pesticide, no chemicals needed.

LOL – I guess the little fella was on a high-protein diet.
