Notre Dame women’s basketball coach explains why she won’t hire men

Imagine being able to publicly announce you will hire someone based upon their genitalia rather than their qualifications.

From Fox News: Muffet McGraw, the head coach of the Notre Dame women’s basketball team, explained why she plans on no longer hiring men.

In a recent interview with Think Progress, the 63-year-old Hall of Fame coach, said she would never hire another male assistant coach and believed women can do more to help each other. When asked by the media outlet if she ever planned on hiring another male coach, she said, “No.” McGraw has had an all-female staff for the past seven years.

“Women need the opportunity. They deserve the opportunity,” she said.

On Thursday, McGraw was asked about her recent comments.

“Did you know that the Equal Rights Amendment was introduced in 1967 and it still hasn’t passed?” she replied. “We need 38 states to agree that discrimination on the basis of sex is unconstitutional. We’ve had a record number of women running for office and winning, and still we have 23 percent of the House and 25 percent of the Senate.”

The coach said she was “getting tired” that there aren’t more female leaders across the country and asked, “When is it going to become the norm instead of the exception?”

“How are these young women looking up and seeing someone that looks like them, preparing them for the future?” McGraw explained. “We don’t have enough female role models. We don’t have enough visible women leaders. We don’t have enough women in power.”

“Girls are socialized to know when they come out, gender rules are already set. Men run the world. Men have the power. Men make the decisions. It’s always the man that is the stronger one,” she continued. The coach argued that if jobs in men’s basketball mostly go to men then why shouldn’t it be the same in women’s basketball.

“When you look at men’s basketball, 99 percent of the jobs go to men, why shouldn’t 100 or 99 percent of the jobs in women’s basketball go to women?” the Notre Dame women’s basketball coach said Thursday during her Final Four news conference. “Maybe it’s because we only have 10 percent women athletic directors in Division I. People hire people who look like them. That’s the problem.”

McGraw led the Irish to victory Friday night, knocking out UConn again. The team will defend the national title against Baylor in the championship Sunday night. The legendary coach has two national championships under her belt and more than 900 career wins.

Geez, Muffet (seriously?), calm down. Don’t forget to breathe. Seems like she was a bit exercised for this interview. Maybe she was trying to quit smoking or something when they did it. Damn men, hiring people that look like them to coach men’s basketball. The effrontery! She’s right about one thing though; we have a serious shortage of good female role models

Indeed. More of their divide and conquer garbage. Women are supposed to hate men as a matter of course. It is supposed to be a competition that they win. Whites don’t matter, especially male whites. Even though there is an equal rights body of law they refuse to acknowledge that it applies to whites at all, especially males. I ran across a piece just this morning where a casting call notified the participants that whites would be paid less than “people of color” and that whites were required to attend “racial sensitivity” training. It was optional for “POC”. If that… Read more »

“Even though there is an equal rights body of law they refuse to acknowledge that it applies to whites at all, especially males.” I think this was the plan all along- like a bait and switch, All this civil rights crap just happened some 60 odd years ago. That’s too short of a space to pretend you don’t remember what the intent of the law was supposed to be. The fact is, and you probably already know this, it was meant to raise up the Negros so they could take down Whites. TPTB tried to rouse Whites to communism last… Read more »

Believe me, I could tell you some stories. “Back in the day” I ran with a pretty “hip” crowd. Nobody took this crap here seriously. I know people who took beer and popcorn to the Watts Riots and watched it like a sporting event.

None of those people were mean or cruel. It was just acknowledged as the nonsense that it was. Most of them were on the “Left”.

“Anger” has been pathologized as in “toxic masculinity”. Men aren’t allowed to be angry anymore, just “loving and supportive”, intended to mean whipped, submissive, confused. This is directed at white men especially because traditionally we have been the ones who would fight back. Anger is a perfectly normal response when threatened, it gives us the energy to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Now that everything we hold dear is being threatened we need righteous anger. As Josey Wales said, when things are going bad and it looks like you’re not going to make it, you just have to get… Read more »

Yes, of course. Said another way men are supposed to let women “reinvent” them into something other than they are. I really don’t understand the angst. In my experience people who are constantly unhappy are people who are always writing scripts in their heads. Nobody pays any attention to their scripts so they’re always disappointed. So you have some of these women essentially reordering their world saying, “THAT shouldn’t be there. It belongs over THERE!. Isn’t anybody listening to ME?” Well, no, they’re not. Why should they be? Maybe they should learn to be grateful for what they have and… Read more »

I agree with a good deal of what she says, as it is certainly true going by this quote from her: “We don’t have enough female role models. We don’t have enough visible women leaders. We don’t have enough women in power.” But I think a more rational and useful attitude would be to always go on the basis of the best qualified. It’s exactly the same way I vote, and I think many other Independents do. The political situation in terms of representation is slightly better in Canada, but not very much. It’s still very much an exclusive boy’s… Read more »

I don’t think the issue is one of women in power but rather one of the kinds of women who have that power. Women in power is usually intended to mean pro-infanticide, anti-American, anti-Christian, leftist lunatics. We don’t need any more of them in power, we’re all stocked up. Personally I would have no problem if the entire congress was female provided they were patriotic, preferably Christian, women of high moral standards, with priorities other than LGBTQ “rights”, imaginary climate change, and allowing the country to be overrun with third-world refuse. They would be, as you say, the best qualified

Maybe the answer is “why don’t you leave?”. WE live in a country that respects people regardless of gender, color or religious practice. Obviously, that isn’t what they want. Maybe they can find it someplace other than here. Here we actually have laws to defend against this. Just because Obongo’s bosses kicked off the destruction derby doesn’t mean anyone else has to play. We should quit responding to things like this and simply take legal action. When they start screaming say “shut up. I don’t have to stand here and listen to your silly garbage. I don’t care what you… Read more »

I agree totally, but the fact remains that more women are democrats than conservative.

Yes, but the whole focus has changed. People can’t be Demonrats and Rethugs and discuss anything. They are no longer beliefs or attitudes, they are total belief systems and strict adherence is REQUIRED. I’m not either one. Never will be. This conditioning is the Chinese Menu Method. All or nothing, no substitutions. No thought, just emotion. You don’t decide what YOU want, they TELL you what your options are. Instead of being angry and offended at those who seek to control they are allowing their anger to be directed at the controller’s enemies. We already have moral standards. We were… Read more »

Does it really matter whether a Ob-Gyn physician is female or male or is it qualifications and reputation that we women rely on the doctor’s care?

Take the name, sex, race, photos, addresses, or anything else that might identify any demographic of the applicant, off of the job appliction, only to be disclosed if the applicant is hired.
Or run your business your way and leave the gumment out of it. If this dyke wants to surround herself with dykes, well knock yourself out. Libs push diversity, untill they have to be diverse.

Hey, Muffet McGraw (real name Ann O’Brien). How about fake (“transgender”) men? Will you hire them?

I’m pretty sure all women must meet “her (?)” definition to qualify as “women”.

That would pose a problem for her though. She would have to acknowledge that a male-to-female TG was a “real” woman, otherwise the whole TG mob would be screaming for her head. She would be accused of the dreaded “transphobia”. And if she relented it would only be a matter of time before TB’s would demand to be on her teams. This is already happening and the effect is to render the term “women’s sports” meaningless. M to F TG’s are beginning to dominate in women’s sports for the simple reason that, despite their feels, they are still biological males,… Read more »

I suppose but if you had “the whole TG mob” after you what would that amount to? Two-tenths of one percent? Chasing after the “TG” approval is a little silly.

Ms. Muffet quotes:

“discrimination on the basis of sex is unconstitutional.”
And yet, she’s doing EXACTLY that.

“People hire people who look like them. That’s the problem.”
Nope, People generally hire the person best able to (win, in this position, and) make them more money. That goes to qualification & experience.

PRECISELY. That’s my whole point above. They just can’t get their tiny little minds around that.

I hope all the “men” who send their daughters and sons to Notre Dame remember this when their kids’ tuition bill comes due. ND needs to be boycotted (no pun intended). She’s a sexist scuzz bag, probably a lesbian too. Another looney leftist. She should be fired, but probably won’t be. Why? Because these (state funded ie taxpayer funded) universities get away with all kinds of discrimination against white people and older people. I got turned down for a job because I was white, and the woman even admitted this to me, she said she liked me and wanted to… Read more »

They do something to them there. I knew a lawyer with a law degree from Notre Dame. She was in my parish and we did a lot of work together. She later became a nun. You couldn’t talk to her for five minutes without her declaring that she had a law degree from Notre Dame. One year we had a dinner at the church and I met her father. He was up from LA. The first words out of his mouth were that he had a law degree from Notre Dame. That parish is where I met the stupidest man… Read more »
