No way to opt out? Brooklyn second graders exposed to naked locker room encounters

Principal Tang

From NY Post: The principal of Brooklyn’s PS 169 is in hot water over a swimming program for second-graders that exposes them to more than just the backstroke.

Parents at the Sunset Park School are aghast the tots are taking lessons at a Manhattan fitness center where the children gather in a locker room with the club’s sometimes-naked members, school insiders told The Post.

Kids were seeing naked adults in the locker room. They don’t close the access to the public. Any member could come in. Adults could come in, change in the locker room while these kids are in the locker room at the same time,” one source said. “Teachers are in the locker room as well. They see the kids naked. The kids see each other naked.

But principal EuJin Tang — who once made headlines for canceling Christmas at the school — told parents they could not opt out, the insider said.

Furious parents even called 311 to complain, the insider said.

Tang touted the weekly lessons at Asphalt Green in Battery Park City in a June letter to parents saying that in September students would be provided with “more real-world experiences. For example, every second grader will learn how to swim.”

The school has about 1,400 students in grades K-5 and serves mostly immigrant and low-income families. The student population is about 62% Asian and 33% Hispanic and half the kids are English language learners. There are about 300 students in second grade.

Tang held a midday meeting with parents in October and, in a seeming about-face, said the swimming lessons weren’t mandatory. But no notice went out to parents who couldn’t make the meeting, the insider said.

She wants this program so bad. She doesn’t want them to opt out,” one parent said.

Asphalt Green offers the “Waterproofing” program to children in public and private schools. “Over the past 25 years, Asphalt Green’s Waterproofing program has provided free and low-cost weekly swimming lessons to tens of thousands of public school students, in an environment that is safe, educational, and fun,” an organization spokesman said.

The organization said it offered the use of private family changing rooms to allay any concerns. But the PS 169 insider said kids must still wait their turn in the communal locker room where they can see the nude adults. Tang did not respond to requests for comment.

A DOE spokeswoman said only two families opted out and that “Swim lessons save lives, and this program helps ensure children, regardless of background, have access to them.”

Tang ruffled feathers shortly after arriving at the school in 2014 when she decided to scrap Santa Claus, celebrate the “fall harvest” rather than Thanksgiving and eliminate a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance over the school’s public address system.

The principal, then known as EuJin Jaela Kim, was forced to change her tune after a Post expose. But she stirred up controversy again in 2016 when she threw away 1,200 almost-new desks and replaced them with tables.

The way I see it, yes, Tang should be fired, but won’t be. But I think the bigger issue is that, given all the social engineering and insanity and, yes, criminal activity, public education really should be abolished.

Maybe someday it will be.

If an adult exposes his penis to a child, it’s a crime. So how is this different from child sex abuse?

Liberal government sanctioned child abuse isn’t abuse, it’s for their own good. At least that’s the way I see it.

“If an adult exposes his penis to a child, it’s a crime.” Unless it’s at a “pride” event. It happens a lot but the special “pervert privilege” at such events supercedes the laws that all decent people are obliged to obey

Amazing the spin they put on this – swim classes save lives. Tang obviously has an agenda other than saving kids from drowning. Like “saving” kids from the Christian influence of Thanksgiving and Christmas and giving them a head start on Sex Ed. I’ve said before, home school your kids, burn the public schools to the ground. Build Dollar Generals in their place. At least people derive some benefit from DG

I worked when my kids were growing up, and I am thankful they are now adults. There is NO way I would send them to public schools nowadays. I would be homeschooling them because there is zero chance I would allow my kids to be sexually abused like this. Swim lessons may save lives, but this deviancy rots the mind and destroys the soul. This evil woman should not even be allowed to be in the same room as children.

What’s this “Club” they mention? The “Legitimized Child Sexual Abuse Club”? Teaching kids to swim is a good thing, when done in the RIGHT circumstances, but I think there’s an intent here to expose kids to a DIFFERENT kind of “real-world experience”,and it won’t be good .

I see there is a big difference in cultures here. In my country it is completely normal for anyone, from young children to grannies, to be naked together in locker rooms, showers and saunas. Or did I misunderstand it, and both sexes use the same facilities? That doesn’t happen here, if that is the case then I understand why the parents are upset.

What you think asylum seekers abusing Finnish children has to to with the cultural differences between the US and Finland, I do not know. But I can say that this news would not have been news here. Are American children really traumatised from seeing each other and adults naked?

Why don’t you mind your own business? The United States is not Finland. We don’t go to Finnish blogs to impose American standards of behavior on you. And who is “Gitana” anyway? How would we know “Gitana” isn’t a pedophile with an agenda?

There has been a huge influx of Middle Eastern people to regions of the planet to which they are not suited. What you call “asylum seekers”. You might want to ask yourself, why would someone from ,say, Iraq “seek asylum” in Finland of all places? For that matter why would Somalis seek asylum in Maine or Minnesota? Because the climate is so much to their liking? They don’t belong here, our respective cultures are utterly incompatible. But I agree, that is a separate issue. Sexual attitudes in your part of the world are far more liberal than they are here… Read more »

I agree 100 percent. And as we know they have infiltrated, with plenty of assistance. I mentioned before about the bill that was introduced in the OK legislature years ago banning Sharia Law. At the time I thought, LOL, those silly Bible bangers. Not laughing now

I don’t want to be racist. I *like* Asian women. But we have DIFFERENT customs and cultural values. And I keep seeing more folks being hired and working at top positions in the US (*including* government) who don’t know or care or agree with our values, and they’re trying to change America to more closely represent their home countries or ethnicities. And I have a BIG PROBLEM with that. America *is* different. We are GREAT because we are different. We need to maintain that difference to maintain our greatness, not dilute it to be more diverse… Morality and Faith in… Read more »
