I apologize for bringing you this revolting news, but it’s too shocking to ignore.

Christopher Hooten reports for the UK’s The Independent, Feb. 12, 2014, that, responding to a tip-off, police arrested 11 people and closed a restaurant in Anambra, Nigeria, after two human heads wrapped in cellophane were discovered at a hotel restaurant that had been serving human flesh.

Nigeria

Human flesh was apparently being sold as an expensive treat at the restaurant, with authorities saying that roasted human head was even on the menu.

A pastor who had visited the eatery said, “I went to the hotel early this year, after eating, I was told that a lump of meat was being sold at N700 (about $4.19), I was surprised, So I did not know it was human meat that I ate at such expensive price. What is this country turning into? Can you imagine people selling human flesh as meat. Seriously I’m beginning to fear people in this part of the world. ”

According to the original report on OsunDefender, which calls itself “the 6th most visited newspaper website in Nigeria,” the arrest took place on Feb. 5, 2013, at a hotel (name withheld) very close to the popular Ose-Okwodu market in Anambra state.

A vegetable seller in the area said, “Each time I came to market, because the hotel is very close to the market, I always noticed funny movements in and out of the hotel; dirty people with dirty characters always come into the hotel. So, I was not surprised when the police made this discovery in the early hours of yesterday.”

The hotel owner, 6 women and 4 men were arrested. Along with the human heads, two AK47 rifles & other weapons were also discovered in the hotel.

The website WN.com (World News Network) has this photo (below) of a restaurant named Mr. Bigg’s, attached to its story on the Nigerian cannibalism.

Nigerian cannibal restaurant

Wikipedia says Mr. Bigg’s, styled after McDonald’s, is one of Nigeria’s first chain of fast food restaurants. Owned by conglomerate United African Company of Nigeria PLC, there are currently around 170 locations in Nigeria, including the country’s first drive-through restaurant. The restaurant’s specialty is meat-pie.

The International Business Times says “Reports of cannibalism sometimes emerge in Nigeria, but this is the first time a restaurant has been booked for selling human meat dishes.”

  1. I’m afraid to ask about their ‘special sauce”.

  3. What ever you do , don’t order the hot dog !…………..sorry , it had to be said !

  4. I read this two days after seeing “The Last King of Scotland”, the excellent movie made about Idi Amin’s reign in Uganda, so this wasn’t as much a shock as it would have been otherwise.

We must understand that this is Africa, not what we know as ‘civilisation’ at all: what we find appalling they may find acceptable. Never forget that this is the continent which spawned the Obamination as well….

  5. I wonder what kind of meat is used in the “meat pie”?

  6. Flesh of the swine is forbidden, but human flesh is acceptable? It is not just in Africa, either, but has been recently in the news from Syria.

  7. Well, if they ever do a TV show called Iron Chef Africa….

    Oh, never mind.

  8. I wonder if they scooped the brains out of the skull and cooked them or if they ate the brains directly out of the skull? The reason I ask is because in the Cameroons right next door to Nigerian they eat monkey heads and they are served in restaurants. There, they crack the skulls and then eat the brains nearly raw right out of the skulls. I understand that they also eat monkey brains in Indonesia. The way they are served in restaurants depends on what part of the world you are in.

    • AIDS started in Africa. Wasn’t that how AIDS went from monkeys to humans?

      • I’m no expert on that, but I’ve heard that the virus started in monkeys, but that humans contracted the virus from Chimpanzees. (Chimpanzees eat monkeys) SIV in chimpanzees mutated into HIV when humans ate the meat and came into contact with the blood. The virus spread from Africa to other parts of the world.

One word comes to mind after reading this “hurl”. God did not intend for humans to be on the food chain for other humans. Makes a person wonder if cannibals are totally human and possibly a subhuman. Leeann

  10. Good God! And we’re importing this kind of subhuman as part of our “Immigration program”???

  12. If memory serves, “mad cow disease” was attributed in those animals to their being fed, horribly, in my mind, not just as carnivores, but as cannibalistic beasts. We were told that that led to fatal brain damage resulting in death and that human cannibalism in the South Pacific led to similar fatality. The Donner Pass plate special should be avoided, even if offered money to dine on it. And people pay a lot of money for such debasement! So was it in the days of Noah?

Marblenecltr: I totally agree with you. I read the story about the Donner Pass and it was frightfully sickening. I think we should all have a healthy case of paranoia in this country, because we don’t really know what restaurants are putting into the food. Leeann

  14. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this incredible post. This is absolute horrible for any culture! There is moral repugnancy about cannibalism. How terrible!

  15. I read this story on another website about a week and after reading your post, I am now wondering about some of those Nigerian immigrants that attend the school I work at.

    • Please, exile. We must guard against over-generalizing to include the innocent. There are many Nigerians, specifically the Ibos in southern Nigeria, who are devout Christians. Let’s not tar every Nigerian with the cannibal brush.

  16. I remember years ago when Putin stated publicly that Africa had a history of cannibalism. Not surprisingly, he was attacked and called a racist. Well.. those people should now be apologizing to Putin.

Wow! This is too horrible to ponder.

  18. Sickened by The Devolving World Around Us

Disgusting. There are good reasons for nations to have BORDERS and to RESTRICT “IMMIGRATION.” This is one of the more grotesque and obvious reasons.

  19. So eating animal meat is okay but human meat is wrong. Very hypocritical to me. I thinking killing and eating any living being is evil and sadistic. So if you eat animal products you’re very hypocritical to think someone viewing human meat to be good wrong and evil.

    • Oh good grief, please stop with your disingenuous refusal to distinguish between eating animals and eating fellow humans. Cannibalism has been a taboo in human civilization for eons.

And FYI, I don’t eat animal meat, which makes me extremely unpopular on my own blog. Just wait for the thumbs-down on this comment. LOL
