Democrats control both the city and state of New York.
And yet, there is criminal negligence of the people who are getting increasingly desperate days after Frankenstorm Sandy struck.
The residents of Staten Island are pleading for help from elected officials, begging for gasoline, food and clothing three days after Sandy slammed one of the hardest-hit communities in New York City. More than 80,000 residents are still without power. Many are homeless, and at least 19 people died on Staten Island because of the storm.
“We’re going to die! We’re going to freeze! We got 90-year-old people!” Donna Solli told visiting officials. “You don’t understand. You gotta get your trucks down here on the corner now. It’s been three days!”
Well-dressed middle class New Yorkers are eating out of garbage dumpsters because Democrats have not restored basic services in a city they completely control and a state they control.
Drivers wait in long lines for $6 gas, for 6 hours at the Hess station at 44th St. and 10th Ave.:
Stranded New Yorkers are defecating in the hallway of apartment buildings:
As hundreds of thousands of New York residents suffer in homes left without power by Hurricane Sandy, two massive generators are being run 24/7 in Central Park — to juice a media tent for Sunday’s marathon. And a third “backup” unit sits idle, in case one of the generators fails. (See Grouchy Fogie’s post for more on this insanity.)
Elsewhere, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs and other objects as they tried to restore power, after Mayor Bill Finch said United Illuminating, the local power company, was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.
Meanwhile, as people plead for help and dumpster-dive for food scraps, Obama-supporter actress-singer Bette Midler continued her life as usual. On Wednesday night, Midler celebrated her yearly extravagant celebrity “Hulaween” bash in Manhattan’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where the city’s limousine socialist elite (Debbie Harry, Debra Messing, Dita von Teese, Michael Kors and husband Lance LePere) partied and drank champagne. This year’s “Hulaween” bash was French-themed.
Let them eat cake!
New Yorkers are told that there’ll be gas and food shortages until after the election and that power will not be restored to millions until after November 11th.
