I like the $50 lesson & the Walmart greeter ?

The lesson’s giving me an idea, though I’m not too sure many homeless people would go for it.

I pass a “homeless” beggar when I go into one of the drugstores nearby my home (some of the lazy ones are in their early 20s, looking for a handout). Maybe I should offer $50 for a few hours worth of work around the house, see if he’d take me up on it.

I’ve had a friend offer to buy a meal for a homeless guy, but the guy refused.

Driving truck all over the US has taught me: look at their clothes, look at their hands (fingernails), make eye contact, then I offer them a bottle of water. Their facial expression and reaction to this simple gesture, tells me what to do next.

I always gave them money and when someone would say they are just going to spend it on booze, I’d say I would too, a bottle of Wild Irish Rose makes the park bench a little softer and it makes the voices go away temporarily. Obviously… Read more »

LOVE this $50 lesson! I taught socialism in a one-hour period back when I taught history full time (and I bet I’m NOT the only teacher who’s done this): announced that the results of the last test would be distributed according to need. All of the A an B students would have to have their points re-distributed to the D and F student scores. Everyone would be “OK” and hover at the C level. Everyone’ needs would be met, so, no need to whine. Only fair (????) As expected, the D-F students cheered, the C students didn’t care, and the… Read more »
