Mommy parrot tells her babies ‘I love you’

This will make you melt.

A video of a mommy parrot sweet-talking to her babies has gone viral since it was first posted on Viral Hog’s Facebook page on March 24, 2019. (Daily Mail)

Parrots are mimics, but this mommy parrot more than mimic human words. She uses them in the correct context.

The video shows the mom, in a high-pitched voice, saying to her chicks:

“Good morning! I love you babies! Gonna feed the babies!”

The human behind the camera then holds up one of the babies to its mom, saying: “Kiss her!”

Mom then kisses her baby with her beak.

Since the video ended, we’ll never know if the parrot ever got around to feeding the babies. LOL

We raised a gorgeous, sassy African grey parrot named Sybil who was nearly as human as she was bird. She was an amazing mimic, learning not only sounds, words, and complete phrases, but she usually spoke in MY voice: she’d greet me, “answer the phone”, call the dog, curse under her breath, all in my voice. I had to watch what I said, because once she started talking, she could pick up whole phrases after only hearing it once. When we moved from our little apartment in Eastlake (Seattle), she wandered around the empty apartment, saying “Goodbye…goodbye…goodbye…” in each room.… Read more »

Thanks for sharing your amazing story of your bird. I’m sure you know that African Greys have the intellect of a human five year old. When you think about that level of intelligence in an animal, it’s pretty amazing. I love birds but never got past parakeets or cockatiels to own a cockatoo or other large parrot which was my desire.I knew how much responsibility they are and it was too much to take on in my life at that time.

I needed that after “they are eating the babies.” We need to be aware of both.

One of my collegues adopted an African Grey of some years from an aged man who had to give her up due to his impending demise (sorry, no other way to say it). My colleague is also raising her young granddaughter in her household. I am always amazed when this parrot asks me upon a visit, to “wash your hands, drink your milk.” This bird immediately, upon adoption, was able to adopt the speech of her new household, from elderly, to new/young children. It took a matter of DAYS, no more…..and she KNOWS when a new person (like me) comes… Read more »
