Romney on attack and killing of 4 Americans in Libya

Now, this is presidential:

This is the statement by the US embassy in Cairo, to which Romney referred:

September 11, 2012

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others.

Here’s the transcript of Romney’s statement:

Good morning. Americans woke up this morning with — with tragic news and felt heavy hearts as they considered that individuals who have served in our diplomatic corps were brutally murdered across the world.

This attack on American individuals and embassies is outrageous, it’s disgusting, it — it breaks the hearts of all of us who think of these people who have served during their lives the cause of freedom and justice and honor.

We — we mourn their loss and join together in prayer that the spirit of the Almighty might comfort the families of those who have been so brutally slain.

Four diplomats lost their life, including the U.S. ambassador, J. Christopher Stevens, in the attack on our embassy at Benghazi, Libya. And of course with these words I extend my condolences to the grieving loved ones who have left behind, as a result of these who have lost their lives in the service of our nation.

And I know that the people across America are grateful for their service. And we mourn their sacrifice.

America will not tolerate attacks against our citizens and against our embassies. We’ll defend also our constitutional rights of speech and assembly and religion.

We have confidence in our cause in America. We respect our Constitution. We stand for the principles our Constitution protects. We encourage other nations to understand and respect the principles of our Constitution, because we recognize that these principles are the ultimate source of freedom for individuals around the world.

I also believe the administration was wrong to stand by a statement sympathizing with those who had breached our embassy in Egypt, instead of condemning their actions. It’s never too early for the United States government to condemn attacks on Americans and to defend our values.

The White House distanced itself last night from the statement, saying it wasn’t cleared by Washington. That reflects the mixed signals they’re sending to the world.

The attacks in Libya and Egypt underscore that the world remains a dangerous place and that American leadership is still sorely needed. In the face of this violence, American cannot shrink from the responsibility to lead. American leadership is necessary to ensure that events in the region don’t spin out of control. We cannot hesitate to use our influence in the region to support those who share our values and our interests.

Over the last several years, we’ve stood witness to an Arab spring that presents an opportunity for a more peaceful and prosperous, but also poses the potential for peril if the forces of extremism and violence are allowed to control the course of events. We must strive to ensure that the Arab spring does not become an Arab winter. With that, I’m happy to take any questions you may have.

Obama later gave a statement to the press, but did not take any questions. Coward.

  1. seems very presedential unlike the current empty suit hollow soul we have pretending to be a president. vote obama out now obama must go

  2. Not only is Mitt a much better choice than the current president, he is a welcome contrast to John McCain.

  3. How did we let this homosexual, communist, American hating idiot occupy the White House? He gets more disgusting everyday!

  4. The press was salivating, waiting for their chance to rip into him. Not with the questions like “What’s your favorite color?” that BO gets. I think Mitt was understandably flustered during the questions but he held his own. And his pre-press comments were really good.

  5. How did the party that gave us Lincon, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower and the great Ronald Regan produce this pathetic coward who uses a hero’s death for personal gain. Of couse his only foreign poiicy experience is shipping American jobs and money overseas.

    • And what personal gain would that be troll? In case you missed it, he’s running for President.

At least Romney gave a speech and answered questions, unlike Zero who took no questions then headed off to Vegas to raise money while chaos reigns in the ME.

And who was it that used another death umpteen times at the DNC last week for personal gain?

    • And who used the death of an honorable border patrol agent, and the deaths of over a hundred Mexican nationals in order to supress a Constitutional 2nd Amendment right of Americans? There is blood on the hands of Barack Hussein Obama for creating the conditions that led to the death of the US Ambassdor and his staff, by Obama’s support of these libyan islamo-thugs in their efforts to topple Qadaffi.

And you have the audacity (where have I heard that word before?) to call Romney a coward? Screw you!

You know what I think? I think you’re a God forsaken, despicable Paulbot intent upon voting for Obama by default! Thats what I think! STFU you egomaniac, and get lost, troll!!

      “Grrrr!!!”

    • What a feeble piece of nonsense–for God’s sake fella, what rock did you just crawl out from under ? As far as shipping jobs overseas, better check your guy BO’s record–GE who he has given favors to, has shipped entire divisions to China. And the failed Solyandra–who got billions in taxpayer funding only to go bankrupt & have no clue where the money went–were going to send the assembly jobs for the solar panels to Mexico.
So go blow up some smoke in some dark corner of the world-how about Libya or Egypt for starters–!@

  6. I walked by the TV yesterday, and Brett Baier was on, and up in the corner they had a live pic of the presidential podium, complete with the seal.

-And there was nobody standing at it.

    I couldn’t help but LMAO!

  7. I know what you mean. That crossed my mind too.

  8. Now a response such as Romney’s inspires confidence! Let’s hope he stays confident in the debates—as well as a bit more forceful!

  9. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for setting forth Governor Romney’s very appropriate and compassionate message. He is absolutely right in everything that he said. God help Governor Romney to win this election! God, please help us!

  10. The results of some poll came out late this afternoon that stated a majority of respondents (I forget the number) were against Romney’s reaction because they felt it “attacked Obama personally” or in words to that effect.
Well, let me tell you that I saw on Drudge that the attacks were “coordinated” and that the U.S. was aiding or financially supporting Al Qaeda in Libya and Egypt. Let me also tell you that Obama issued an “apology” to Cairo on September 11th.
We know whose side Obama is on, by his words and actions, and the results they have wrought. Some poll (very few of which can claim any degree of objectivity as valid and replicable sociological documentation) states that 51% or more believe Romney is “unfair”? I say, BRING IT ON.
Let’s get this campaign and election over with. It may very well be the last national election we will see in our lifetimes, if Obama wins. We know Obama is the King of the Losers! It’s not his job to be King of America: We haven’t had a king since 1776! Furthermore, if the media is offended by criticism of Obama, then I would recommend that both they and Obama are in the wrong line of work! My loyalty is to this country and no other! My loyalty is to this country and no King! Let the Groveller-in-Chief go ply his bowing trade somewhere it is appreciated—like Saudi Arabia—OR HELL!!!
