Marvel Comics introduces new Ms. Marvel, a Muslim American teenager

NY Daily News: Marvel Comics is adding some needed color to the world of costumed  superheroes.
The publisher announced it’s introducing a new Muslim superheroine, a  revamped Ms. Marvel, whose secret identity is that of a Pakistani-American  teenager from Jersey City.
Sixteen-year-old Kamala Khan is the brainchild of writer G. Willow Wilson,  an Islamic convert herself, and Muslim editor Sana Amanat in an effort to reach out to segments of the comic book reading public that haven’t had their own  heroes.
“At her core, Kamala is just a 16-year-old girl, exploring the many facets  of her identity when she is suddenly bestowed with super-human powers that send her on the adventure of a lifetime,” Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso  said in a release.
Khan will debut in January’s “All-New Marvel NOW! Point One Comic Book”  before kicking off her own “Ms. Marvel” series a month later. The creators  promised the title would focus as much on her interaction with her more traditional parents as it would with battles with super villains.
“Any time you do something like this, it is a bit of a risk,” Wilson told the New York Times. “You’re trying to bring the audience on board, and they are used to seeing something else in the pages of a comic book.”
Khan’s introduction comes a year after rival publisher DC Comics introduced  its own major Muslim character — a Green Lantern from Dearborn, Mich., named  Simon Baz.
“It continued to reinforce that our readership is extremely diverse, so we  want to continue to diversify the characters in our universe,” creator Geoff  Johns, himself a Lebanese American from Dearborn, told the Daily News at the  time.
From the NY Times:
Kamala, whose family is from Pakistan, has devotedly followed the career of the blond, blue-eyed Carol Danvers, who now goes by Captain Marvel, a name she inherited from a male hero. When Kamala discovers her powers, including the ability to change shape, she takes on the code name Ms. Marvel — what Carol called herself when she began her superhero career.
Kamala will face struggles outside her own head, including conflicts close to home. “Her brother is extremely conservative,” Ms. Amanat said. “Her mom is paranoid that she’s going to touch a boy and get pregnant. Her father wants her to concentrate on her studies and become a doctor.” Next to those challenges, fighting supervillains may be a respite.
Gee, I wonder if her super powers will include fighting the challenges against rape, acid throwing, honor killings, forced marriages, forced prostitution and the buying and selling of women? Somehow I doubt it.

  1. Shouldn’t Kamala be in a head-to-toe burka? [snark]

  2. Even here in Kanada, where multi-culturalism is alive and well –kind of, sort of– we wouldn’t expect something this fringey [sp?]. When are we going to get back to real issues and real dialogue, not this phantasy crapola?

  3. What a shame she couldn’t have been at the Yobe State College of Agriculture in Nigeria, back in Sept. Maybe she could have stopped THAT slaughter!

  4. Does she possess a special power to behead her enemies?

  5. What do you find more disturbing about this. The fact that Marvel is doing this, or the fact that they would NEVER entertain the thought of having an American Christian teenage powerheroine? That would be a catastophic plan….their stock would plummet.

    • Excellent observation, Jerry.

    • To any comic book artists reading this, there’s nothing stopping you from taking Jerry’s idea and creating your own super hero. I think you would find a very strong market for a well-written Christian comic character.

      • You know, I think you have something there. All too often, in this evil atmosphere, we Christians erroneously feel like we are too few in numbers. We are not. Will I get residuals? 🙂

        • Ha ha! Jerry, if you can write or draw, why not take a shot? It’s a good idea. Parents need wholesome reading material for their kids. When I read comics, it was super heroes vs. super villains, The last time I was in a bookstore and glanced at the mainstream comic books, every single one featured a half naked female character on the cover.
You might even self publish and distribute it yourself through Christian book stores and church groups. Throw a cameo by Tim Tebow in there. It’s a hit!

  6. This, and the DC character mentioned, shows just how deep the radical progressive Left has infiltrated every area of our culture, and are using that culture to subvert the minds and hearts of the people.

  7. Let me know when she straps on her suicide vest and sacrifices herself.

  8. This comic is wrong in so many ways it’s almost impossible to address.

  9. After posting this I realized how insulting Ms. Amanat is to her fellow Muslims by stating, “Her mom is paranoid that she’s going to touch a boy and get pregnant.” That’s very telling of her knowledge of her fellow Muslms, or how ignorant she really believes they are.

  10. Is she immune to camel fleas?

  11. So, wait a minute…maybe I’m just one of those old-farts who thinks that when people put “time in,” they deserve to eventually reach the head of the line…like, where are the Jewish superheroes…..the African-Americans who “zap!” inequity in a single bound….the forlorn, forgotten Mormons? The sweet Senoritas a’ la’ Zorro” days…only this time it’s the babe who gets the bad guy????WHOA….wait a minute! Where’s the Nordic Lutheran, pigtailed blonde from Deluth slinging lutefish from her backpack (concealed in her cape?)…Oh GEEZ….I could go on and on. This Muslim crap is pandering AND self-serving (both perps are Muslim converts?) at it’s highest degree. Maybe a dose of good old capitalism will cancel them out. BOOM!

  12. Does she have a flying camel?
    -A flying carpet, perhaps?

  13. I would like to suggest a name change for her. Her first name should be Sharia. (truth in advertising)

  14. Will she fight radical Islamic jhihadists and suicide bombers who try to blow up other Muslim women and children? No, just another way to dumb down Americans into accepting an enemy that has declared war on our nation and is infiltrating our society at every level. Wake up people!!

  15. Thank you DCG for this interesting post. Obviously, Kamala is such a fantasy character, reflecting nothing of the Muslim warped horrible practices as you mentioned. This is quite another attempt to indoctrinate acceptance of Muslim practices which are not being set forth accurately by this character. Another charade. . .

    • I fully agree with you Joandarc…this mythical female Muslim super heroine does not follow shari’a at all…and neither does her father…she would have been, in real life honor killed or her father would have been, in real life, an apostate and stoned for being a hypocrite…overall, it is another attempt to white wash Islam to help the Muslim Brotherhood perform cultural jihad on America…and the majority of Americans are so ignorant, politically correct and too tolerant and lazy to find out the truth, the cultural jihad is working
