It’s come to this: Stylist goes to jail for defying order to open so she can pay her mortgage and feed her kids

This happened in Texas. Granted it happened in Dallas, which really isn’t part of the real Texas we know anymore.

Shelley Luther, owner of “Salon A La Mode” in North Dallas has bills to pay – and children to feed. She tried to keep her business open and was served a temporary restraining order to close last week and refused.

Shelley was eventually arrested and ended up in court. She was sentenced to 7 days in jail for civil/criminal contempt of court and fined $7,000.

The good judge, Eric Moye, told Shelley at her hearing that “she could avoid jail time if she apologized, admitted she was wrong, and agreed to close her hair salon until it was allowed to open.” He also told her she was being selfish.

Shelley’s response? “Feeding my kids is not selfish.”

Since when do “orders” force one to give up their economic freedoms? The Constitution does not suspend your rights.

Too bad Shelley didn’t own an “ESSENTIAL” business such as a liquor store or an abortion clinic. After all, cutting and coloring hair is SO MUCH more dangerous.

There is a GoFundMe set up for Shelley here.

The government tells you you can’t go to work but won’t give you anything to live off of. Instead they tell you to drop dead and go to hell. How many businesses do you know that never got a bailout? I know of several. But Pot Belly, the LA Lakers, and many other companies and schools like Harvard with a $40 billion endowment got one. To their credit, all three of these gave the money back but still, there were too many businesses that probably easily do less than $1 million a year in business that never heard back and… Read more »

Sigh…or how many independent businessmen in this country, like one of my sons, have a private business from whom they then rent space from a larger private concern—like an ice rink or a gym, or a retail space, or similar? & so, he has gone from a decent CA ‘salary” to NOTHING? And…he can not get unemployment & any other “stuff?”

I COULD be wrong, but I thought I heard on the radio this AM that the President was considering an intervention on this case. I think this Woman is 100% RIGHT,and should be released, and those local Politicians should face charges for crimes against WE THE PEOPLE.

Good for him – now I want to know what that ‘judge’ based the fine on? If I wasn’t a poor old disabled vet I’d probably kick in a few bucks to help feed her kids but NOT to pay that outrageous fine. Paying it tells TPTB that they can get away with such nonsense.

I’m so disgusted with these people. When the mayor of Chicago wants to get a haircut, she goes and gets a haircut, “I’m the face of this city!” And then there are videos of hundreds of blacks in Chicago dancing and partying and carrying on. Of course if they get sick then that’s white people’s fault! But if one white woman goes to work, some knuckle dragging single digit IQ judge who was only elected because he ran in a black district says no we can’t have that, you’re going to jail and I’m going to bankrupt you! At the… Read more »

Glad to hear that-I wonder if he got a phone call-a little tap on the shoulder from the President telling him to “think VERY carefully about what you do next.”

She had to say she was sorry? Are courts confessionals now? So, she was jailed because she didn’t perform a perfect act of contrition before her confessor?

Why are hair salons not an “essential business” but Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are allowed to stay open?

Some virus hysteria makes sense…like social distancing & masks (not so much to protect YOU but to protect others from YOU, just in case). And, hand-washing…in any cirucumstance, even w/o coronavirus, makes sense. No mass gatherings makes sense. BUT —ONE ON ONE controlled services w/proper precautions being banned does NOT make sense and are draconian/dictatorial measures. How can it be any more “dangerous” than going to the grocery store with hundreds of others multiplied by hundreds each hour…who touch things, breathe, cough, sneeze, drag in germs on their shoes/clothing/ hair/ skin/etc….but it’s NOT OK to go to the hair salon… Read more »

We are told that the lockdown is to save lives. If that is true, all the pro-lock down people, mainly Democrats, would not be rabidly pro-abort.

PA governor Wolf (who’s out in November) kept his very large furniture making business open until someone pointed it out.
