Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards are in Syria

Another lit match is thrown onto the heap of dry tinder we call our world.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards commander says its troops are on the ground in Syria.

The Revolutionary Guards, also called the Army of the Guardians of the Iranian Revolution, is a branch of Iran’s military, founded after the 1979 Revolution that overthrew the Shah and installed an Islamic republic (theocracy) under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the populist revolution. Whereas Iran’s regular military defends the country’s borders and maintains internal order, the Revolutionary Guard (pasdaran) is intended to protect Iran’s Islamic system.

Syria is important to Iran because the rule of Syria’s embattled President al-Assad is a key part of Iran’s axis of resistance against Israel and Sunni Arab states. Iran’s brand of Islam is Shi’ite.

Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards

Marcus George reports for Reuters, Sept. 16, 2012:

Members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) are providing non-military assistance in Syria and Iran may get involved militarily if its closest ally comes under attack, commander-in-chief Mohammad Ali Jafari said on Sunday.

Jafari’s statement is the first official acknowledgement that Iran has a military presence on the ground in Syria where an 18-month-old uprising has left tens of thousands dead.

Western countries and Syrian opposition groups have long suspected Iran has troops in Syria. Iran has denied this. “A number of members of the Qods force are present in Syria but this does not constitute a military presence,” Iranian news agency ISNA quoted Jafari as saying at a news conference.

Qods is an IRGC unit set up to export Iran’s ideology. It has been accused of plotting attacks inside Iraq since the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

Jafari did not indicate how many IRGC members were in Syria but said they were providing “intellectual and advisory help”. […] Jafari also said Iran would change its policy and offer military backing if Syria came under attack. “I say specifically that if Syria came under military attack, Iran would also give military support but it … totally depends on the circumstances,” he said.

  2. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this informative post. Clearly, there is an appearance of preparation for war. May Our Lord help us!

  3. ON top of all of this the US is leading a military manoevre of 120 nations in the Persian Gulf and also in the Mediteranean, I think, with the Nimmitz warship and two other present as well as a huge arsonal of weapons and servicemen etc, at the same time the Russians have assembled some nations geographically close to them to have their manoevres together in the same region or thereabouts, what with the CIA on the border of Turkey coordinating the Free Syria Forces, the French and British secret services and the Al Qaeda and the Libyan terrorist organizations that are being supposed recruited and paid by the Saudis and supported by Qatar and perhaps other countries, and riots breaking out outside US Embassies all the way from Tunisia to Egypt to wherever else they have broken out, and with attacks on the Sufi leadership in Russia, and warships etc. surrounding China and Hillary Clinton at large having meetings with anyone and everyone to encourage the regime change in Syria, and Netayahu telling Meet the Press audiences that America has to draw a red line and stop giving him a red light, it seems that TOO MANY COOKS ARE SPOILING THE PROVERBIAL BROTH.
Quds, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Palestinians, the Pakistanis, the Afganistan government and the North Korean new president plus the disappearing and reappearing of the soon to be leader of China complete the stew or brew or are all otherwise in the MIX.
God is not the author of confusion, so this is not God’s work, this is the work of the devil, and it seems he is really made about something, because he has pulled out all the stops this time. JESUS is coming back again, he’s coming back again, he’s coming back again for me.
One day when I was lost, he died upon the cross, I know it was the blood for me. Hooray for JESUS~~~~~

  4. Oops, I think I meant REALLY MAD.
