Instant road rage karma

A woman driving on a freeway in Tampa, Florida, was tailgated by a man in a big black pickup truck.

As the truck passed the woman, the man gave her the finger (1:18 mark).

road rage

Watch what happens next. LOL

Here’s the woman’s account of the incident on YouTube:

This happened to me on SR 41 in Tampa on Monday March 24th. This pathetic excuse for a human being tailgated me for about three minutes. After about a minute, and me shaking my head, I pulled out my phone and started recording. I couldn’t move over because there were trucks in the right lane, and I sure as heck wasn’t going to speed on a rainy day with the roads being as slick as they were. I was turning left in about a half-mile when this happened. Now bear in mind, that this guy had already passed a truck in a left turn lane, was tailgating and driving recklessly on a wet slick road, wasn’t paying attention, and all in all being an ignorant ass. In the … video … you will be able to see that not once was I mouthing off, I never brake checked him, and in fact until I watched the video after the accident I didn’t even know he shot a bird at me because I wasn’t looking at him at all, I was paying attention to the road while holding the phone up with my right hand. I’ve recorded circumstances like this before, catching idiots doing stupid things, but never ever had this happen.

He initially fled the scene of the accident, but thanks to this video he has been caught and charged. Massive props to the Sheriffs Department and most especially the Highway Patrol who responded to the scene. This moron could have easily killed somebody with his moronic behavior, and my laughing at the end would have been replaced with tears. Needless to say though, I’ve never seen Karma come back so fast.

  1. They showed her speedometer too quickly for me to see well, wasn’t she going slow in the left lane when the slow people are supposed to keep to the right so people can get by? Again NOT making accusations, I couldn’t tell the speed, just wondering.

    • It looked like 50 mph, and she passed at least one other vehicle that was in the slower lane.

    • I enlarged the image of her odometer and compared it to images of odometers on the web. Her odometer appears to be marked as 0-20-40-60-80-100-120. So it looks to me she was driving at close to 60 mph, certainly not slow, especially given the rain and slippery road condition.

  2. Wow! My wife and I had a similar incident a few winters ago. It was in a snowstorm, visibility was limited, the road surface very slippery, I was driving safely to get us home alive, and a pickup truck started tailgating us. Going faster to accommodate this driver was out of the question, but I also did nothing to antagonize the person. I’ve driven in white-out conditions in ski country many times, and know what I can and cannot do.

The driver began to speed up and come around me, but didn’t even get out of my rear view mirror before losing control, spinning around and rolling over, all the way right back onto its wheels.

We turned a couple hundred feet up and came back to offer assistance. When we arrived, the driver was out of the truck, seemingly okay, and talking to a couple of guys who came out to help her. She had help, seemed well enough, and look mad as hell. So we decided not to offer our assistance, since she was possibly blaming us for her own stupidity.

And yes, when we found out she was okay, we couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit. 😀

  3. filming while driving could have been just as dangerous

  4. “I couldn’t move over because there were trucks in the right lane..”

That didn’t look to be the case at all. She had plenty of time to get out of the way. There’s a goodly chunk of video before she finally catches up to trucks in the right lane.
I’m not excusing his behavior, but she was rude as well, staying in the left lane when she could have yielded. Perhaps the guy was in a legitimate hurry? Who knows? She surely didn’t, and didn’t care. So instead of moving over, she gets out her phone and starts recording (texting is illegal, but filming while driving is acceptable?), and driving with one hand, and probably slowed down. So he was driving recklessly, but she was too. She is no hero.

“…in fact until I watched the video after the accident I didn’t even know he shot a bird at me because I wasn’t looking at him at all, I was paying attention to the road while holding the phone up with my right hand.”

Oh suuure, she just happened to turn the phone towards her passenger window, training it on him as he came up beside her car – TWICE. Puhleeze.

She fanned the flames. He surely saw her holding up her phone. Not a wise thing to do – “poking the bear.”
This could’ve turned out much worse than it did (when he careened into the oncoming lanes). People could have been killed!
This whole episode could’ve been avoided had she merely GOTTEN OUT OF THE FAST LANE.
I understand why people are applauding this, to a point – tailgating is very aggravating. But, getting out the phone and recording someone who either has a short fuse, or is in a legitimate hurry, is NOT the way to go.
Answering rudeness with rudeness? What’s that we’re taught about two wrongs!? And laughing after he takes out a pole? What if he broke his neck?? Oh yes, what a riot, Alice!

Sorry, but the “karma” didn’t fit the crime in this case, IMHO.

    • what an ass hole 2 cents you weren`t there so how the hell do you know what happened are you jesus or do you have esp get a life man Oh suuure, she just happened to turn the phone towards her passenger window, training it on him as he came up beside her car – TWICE. 7. I’m so tired of people making men look bad……we got rid of our t.v. MANY years ago because the commercials, shows, movies, etc. were always making men look bad. Just because men do bad things sometimes doesn’t mean people have to focus on it constantly. The highways/freeways in my state always have signs that say to keep to the right except to pass; if the weather was bad or whatever, she didn’t need to get in the fast lane to begin with. Also, it’s illegal to be on a phone while driving. Finally, the nasty laugh from her at the end makes her sound like a witch. Our family likes most of the things on this blog, but NOT this “article.”
