Another Democrat snake tongue-flicker: Tony Blinken, Obama's deputy national security advisor

Snakes flick their tongues; humans don’t.

Snakes flick their tongues for a good reason — to get a better sense of its surroundings by “tasting” the air. Most snakes have an excellent sense of smell to compensate for their poor eyesight and limited hearing. Although snakes have nostrils, they also use their tongues to pick up the scent of nearby prey or predators. (LiveScience)

A March 2017 FOTM poll of our readers found that an overwhelming majority (93.13%) said they never flick or stick out their tongues when talking.

But I’ve discovered that certain individuals disconcertingly do flick their tongues: Obama’s secretary of state John Kerry, Obama’s White House communications director Anita Dunn, Hillary Clinton supporter and anti-Trumper actress Meryl Streep, The View‘s harridan Joy Behar, French socialist presidential candidate Benoit Hamon, convicted murderer Jodi Arias, and “Word of Faith” Evangelical Charismatic preacher Kenneth Hagin.

The latest snake tongue-flicker I discovered is Tony Blinken, Obama’s deputy secretary of state and deputy national security advisor.

On April 11, 2017, Blinken was interviewed by Charlie Rose on PBS, along with Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal, on Trump’s missile strike against Syria. Here’s the video, posted to Charlie Rose’s website, in which Blinken frequently punctuated his speech by flicking his tongue.

I can’t slow down the Charlie Rose video to take screenshots of Blinken’s tongue-flicking. So I found a video on YouTube (where I can slow down the video’s speed) of Blinken being interviewed on Charlie Rose on Feb. 17, 2016.

Here are screenshots I took from the Feb. 17, 2016 video of Blinken flicking his tongue. In a video of only 1 minute 44 seconds, by my count Blinken flicked his tongue out at least 4 times.

Note: At least 5 of the 8 snake tongue-flickers named in this post have Jewish ancestry. I don’t know what that means.
