Human beings don’t flick their tongues out. Snakes do, like this garter snake.

But I’ve noticed several public individuals who flick their tongues when they speak:

  • Anita Dunn, Obama’s White House communications director from April through November 2009.
  • John Kerry, Obama’s secretary of state.
  • Jodi Arias, convicted killer of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander.
  • Actress Meryl Streep, at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards.

In the post I did on Meryl Streep, I’d asked readers to take a poll. The vast majority (87%) of those who took the poll said neither they nor anyone they know stick their tongue out when speaking.

Yesterday afternoon, I was watching France’s first 2017 presidential debate live. In alphabetical order, the five presidential candidates and their respective political parties are (note: The “left-right” political characterizations are AFP‘s):

  1. Francois Fillon, Republicans, right.
  2. Benoît Hamon, Socialist Party, left.
  3. Marine LePen, National Front, far-right.
  4. Emmanuel Macron, En Marchel, centrist.
  5. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Left Party, far-left.

According to AFP:

In the most unpredictable election in years, far-right National Front (FN) leader Marine Le Pen and centrist Emmanuel Macron have been running neck-and-neck for weeks, with the latest opinion poll showing Macron just half a percentage point ahead for the first round of voting on April 23.

As I was watching the candidates take turns to answer questions posed by the debate moderators, I suddenly saw something and sat bolt upright.

Benoît Hamon, with the rat face, was flicking his tongue!

Benoît Hamon is not just a member of the Socialist Party, but the leader of the left-wing of the Socialist Party in 2008 because, evidently, being socialist isn’t left-wing enough. He briefly was France’s Minister of National Education from April until August 2014 when he resigned because he was displeased with President François Hollande, a socialist, for abandoning the socialist agenda.

Hamon wants to give all French citizens a basic income, supports a 35-hour workweek, the legalization of euthanasia, and taking in even more “refugees” (see DCG’s post) because, clearly, France needs more “migrants” to transform Paris into even more of a garbage dump.

I couldn’t take screenshots of Hamon from the debate as it was conducted live. So I found a video of Hamon making a speech a day ago, on March 19, 2017, to a jam-packed auditorium in Bercy, a neighborhood in the 12th arrondissement (administrative district) of Paris.

I slowed down the video to take these screenshots of Hamon flicking his tongue in intervals of mere seconds. I stopped after taking these five screenshots.

What is perhaps even more curious is that, like the actress in the Golden Globe Awards audience who unconsciously mimicked Meryl Streep by sticking out her tongue, Hamon had a similar effect on this young man in the audience (below).

On this disconcerting phenomenon of certain people who flick their tongue like a snake, I am reminded of what some exorcists have testified — that those who are demon-possessed “can take on the look of a reptile or snake”.

I welcome your thoughts as to what this tongue-flicking means.

  1. They must be from the Serpent Tribe of Dan. That little “shokeling” habit at the wall and communing with the Divine?
    Who knew.
