Update: Only 92% of Newt Gingrich's Twitter Followers Are FakeYesterday, we published an item based on a former Newt Gingrich staffer’s claim that Gingrich assembled his 1.3 million Twitter followers—a number that he’s taken to bragging about—in part by buying fake Twitter followers. 1. To stoop so low. Pathetic.

  2. this sounds exactly like aka obama and his robotic bloggers! finding honest people this day is like finding a needle in a haystack. Or should I have said politicians! (that doesn’t exist)

  3. PeekYou says, “Twitter audience that is identified as a “consumer” or “voter” in Newt’s case, vs business, private/anonymous and spam accounts. The average range sits anywhere between 30-60% human depending on this type of account. Newt’s was 8% — the lowest the team had ever seen by 5%.” PeekYou doesn’t specifically say Newt purchased the private/anon/spam accounts. Gawker says they did, which I take with a grain of salt (they are extremely lib). Or maybe I’m missing something…

  4. And since when did you have to “purchase” a twitter account? HotAir has an udpated explanation which makes sense.
If Newt was setting up fake accounts to follow him, he’d have to hire a big team to set up new accounts/emails and monitor/update them all. I can’t believe he’d waste money on that. I’m not a big fan of Newt, but I don’t trust Gawker as far as I can throw them. Remember, they are out to ruin any GOP candidate anyway they can.
