GOP Bulldog Vows to Go After Obama

Here’s another reason to vote the Dems out this November.
James Hohmann and Jake Sherman of Politico report (on June 18) that Republican Congressman Darrell Issa (California’s 49th district) is making plans to hire dozens of subpoena-wielding investigators if Republicans win the House this fall.

Currently a ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, if the GOP wins the House this November, Issa likely will become the committee’s chairman in 2011. Issa already has told Republican leadership that if he becomes chairman, he wants to roughly double his staff from 40 to between 70 and 80. And he is not subtle about what that means for President Barack Obama.

At a recent speech to Pennsylvania Republicans, Issa described what would happen if the GOP wins 39 seats, and he gets the power to subpoena:

“That will make all the difference in the world. I won’t use it to have corporate America live in fear that we’re going to subpoena everything. I will use it to get the very information that today the White House is either shredding or not producing.”

Issa already has a record of going after the Obama administration for “Job-gate,” forcing the White House to admit that former President Bill Clinton tried to coax Rep. Joe Sestak out of the Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania by offering him an unpaid job. Issa continues to insist that that the administration violated federal law with the Sestak imbroglio. Additionally, Issa is also pressing “Romanoff-gate” — the e-mail from White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina to Colorado U.S. Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff about three possible administration jobs as the administration apparently tried to steer him away from a primary challenge against Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet.

Issa has a solid conservative record, having voted with the majority of House Republicans 94.7% of the time during the 111th Congress. He opposes abortion and attempts to ease restrictions on illegal immigration such as the blue card system, saying that it provides amnesty for illegal immigrants. He has signed the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge” of the Americans for Tax Reform, an organization that opposes all tax increases.
Born in Ohio, Issa is the grandson of Lebanese immigrants. A graduate of Kent State University, Issa is an Antiochian (Greek) Orthodox Christian.

  1. this can’t happen soon enough!

  2. Kent State ROTC grad… you know he’s conservative! 🙂

  3. I think Steve hit the nail on the head. By the time Issa gets there Oslobo will have shredded every bit of evidence to cover his butt.

  4. First the repubs have to put enough fannies in the seats to make this happen.
Then they have to actually have the stones to go through with it.
Tall orders both for the gutless wonders.
