I don’t know about the rest of you, but this indicates to me that the intelligence in the Elephant is on the same level as a human. Therefore this animal is a victim of economic slavery, since the income it earns goes to its human, not to it, except perhaps for minimal food.

I’m absolutely in agreement with you, Eo! My major client the past 20 years is a multi-millionaire lawyer here in Victoria, BC, with an enormous collection of many artworks, mostly oil paintings, quite a few African masks, Chinese pottery, many Oriental rugs (I’d love to have some in my house, but their cost is impossible for me), Inuit carvings, antique furniture, and many smaller pieces, displayed everywhere in a large house overflowing with stuff. But his taste is incredibly poor, especially in paintings, mostly done in the last 75 years. They are at least 80% kitsch, and not even good… Read more »

This brings tears to my eyes! This shows how consciousness is the SAME in all species, and in all life forms. There, but for trunk and tail, go you and I, Suda and Flipper, Lassie and Flicka, Arnold and your favorite pets. It is a beautiful moment, watching Suda’s intelligence – w h i c h w a s a l w a y s t h e r e – flower in front of us, we witness both her evolution (as a spirit, soul, and artist) and in doing so, we, ourselves, elevate and evolve in our own consciousness… Read more »

It’s truly remarkable that the elephants’ art trainers, called mahouts in Thailand, can, so I’ve read, adapt the centuries old Thai method for training elephants, called phajaan, to get them to paint the same painting over and over in shows. There are even human spoilers out there, so I’ve also read, who claim the elephants are constantly manipulated with trunk and ear tugs by the mahouts who control the placement of the brush and nature of the brush stroke off camera. Still, there’s more to admire in the unfathomable majesty of a living elephant’s eye than in any painting.
