Dennis Kucinich Wants Taxpayer-Funded Campaigns

Dennis Kucinich pointing to the mother ship

Fresh off of being part of a congressional cabal that recently proposed a “reasonable profits board” to regulate oil company profits, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (Taxocrat-Ohio) is at it again, as he is now proposing that the Constitution be amended to mandate that federal elections be funded solely with our taxpayer dollars.

He is proposing this despite the fact that in 2010 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that political speech in the form of corporate donations was protected by the 1st Amendment.

Kucinich proposes measure to mandate taxpayer-funded campaigns

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) on Thursday proposed a constitutional amendment that would require all federal campaign funding to come from taxpayer dollars.
Kucinich argued in an announcement statement that his amendment would in effect overturn the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which allows outside groups to spend unlimited amounts to influence campaigns. That decision, Kucinich said, put U.S. democracy “on the auction block.”
“With corporate private financing, we have officials working for the interest of corporations,” said a statement from Kucinich as reported by Cleveland’s The Plain Dealer on Friday. “With public financing, we have officials working for the public. And public financing will actually save taxpayers’ money, by eliminating any incentive of public officials to reward campaign contributors with taxpayer subsidies.
“We must rescue American democracy from unlimited corporate money,” Kucinich continued. “This is the most fundamental issue facing the future of our nation.
Kucinich is currently locked in tough primary fight with his fellow House member Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) over who will carry the Democratic mantle in the newly redrawn 9th congressional district in this fall’s elections.
First of all, this country was not founded as, nor was it intended to be, a democracy, although the left has been working deligently since WWII to convince Americans that we are, and thanks to government education, they have realized a fair amount of success.
Secondly, a corporation by definition is a group of people organized into a singular entity. These are people whose lives are profoundly affected by the actions of our elected representatives.
The idea being bandied about by Kucinich and others that these people should have absolutely no say in who our represetives are, is absurd on its face.

Denis Kucinich is just like all the other people who want to be a public servant and work for the government. He has written a really good bill THE NEED ACT of 2011 that would be ideal to use as the way to go forward after Marcy Kaptur’s RETURN TO PRUDENT BANKING ACT HR 1489 is passed, reinstating Glass Steagall. The change in the districts that have caused Kucinich and Kaptur to oppose each other are political too, and he did think originally or relating to another district I believe. None of us is perfect, and yes indeed the whole… Read more »

Anyone, including Congress and the Administration members, who are not pressing for THE RETURN TO PRUDENT BANKING ACT and for the Congress to start issuing Credit under the Alexander Hamilton model enshrined in the US Constitution is complicit with what is going on in Government. There are sins of omision and comission and they go all the way back through all generations to Adam and Eve, we have to repent for them all and ask God to forgive us, turn from our wicked ways, and then, ACCORDING TO HIS WORD he will heal our land.
