Demorat-run Seattle under siege: Man resorts to chasing armed car prowler because he’s fed up with crime in his neighborhood

I’ve posted many stories here about the situation in Seattle: their homeless crisis (and the associated crime and drugs), the criminals never being held accountable for their actions who are quickly released back to the streets, and the slow (if ever) response time by Seattle Police. Do a quick search for “Seattle” on our blog and you’ll find plenty of horror stories.

Yet year after year after year Seattleites keep electing demorats who do absolutely nothing to solve these problems. Fresh outta empathy for you folk…

From MyNorthwest.com: Shawn Telford says his Fremont neighborhood is under siege in Seattle.

“In the last year I’ve had about $1,500 worth of stolen property and damage to my home and that’s just me in my neighborhood,” Telford said. “And this is unprecedented. I’ve lived in this house in this neighborhood since 1998 … I’ve lived here a long time and I’ve never seen anything like this. I would characterize it as completely and totally out of control.

Shawn says he’s not the only target. His neighbors have experienced break-ins, car prowls, and burglaries, and have had packages stolen from their porches.

“I feel like I’m on high alert,” Telford said. “Any little noise at night, even during the day, I’m looking out the window wondering what the heck that was, if my home and my family are safe. I have a six-year-old son in this house.”

Telford said a recent car prowl in front of his neighbor’s house was the last straw for him.

“I see a head pop up in the back of the car,” Telford said. “So I ran inside, grab my flashlight, and I go out and I didn’t know if it was my neighbor’s friend or something. It’s this guy all dressed in black with a backpack getting out of the car and he tells me that he’s ‘sorry.’ And then he took off running and I chased him.”

Telford said he ran after the man for about a block until he pulled out a knife.

“And runs at me with the blade pointed out right at me,” Telford said. “And I’ve got my flashlight in one hand and my phone in the other hand because I’m on the phone with 911. And they’re telling me not to chase him. And I’m telling them, ‘I’m sick and tired of all this crime happening at all hours of the day, every day. And if I call the cops what are they going to do? Show up 3-4 hours after and get a statement from me?‘”

“Meanwhile, this guys gonna get away?” he said. “And that just emboldens them. It just seems like there’s no consequences, so people can continue to do this bad behavior. So I was like, ‘I’m not going to stop following him. I’m not. This is my home, this is my community.’ We are under siege.”

Telford said the chase became a pattern of him chasing the guy, the guy turning around and brandishing the knife, screaming and threatening, and even throwing gravel at him. But Telford didn’t stop. A neighbor heard the commotion and came out to help Telford until they ran right into a police cruiser.

Telford felt like he’d accomplished something … until he saw the same man two days later.

“I’m walking up to the Safeway in my neighborhood, I’m only probably six blocks from my home where I live with my son and I see (him) this guy who chased me with a knife on Sunday night,” Telford said, “[He’s] already out of jail despite the fact that he has a felony warrant for burglary and he chased me with a knife.”

Seeing the man on the street made Telford’s blood boil. “We can’t keep letting them get away with it … we need to maintain our rules and our laws, our sense of dignity and our sense of right and wrong,” Telford said. “If we just keep giving them everything that they want, they’re never going to stop and the situation is never going to get better.

Telford said he doesn’t like putting himself in danger, but his home and community are under threat.

Thank you for this report, DCG. My wife and I like some of the stories on Hallmark Channel (Yeah, I know we are so tame and docile). We like them because they show a world without such horrors. Which makes it all the more odd to know that 2 of Hallmark’s favorite filming locations are Seattle and Chicago.
If only the people who govern those cities would think straight, maybe Hallmark’s stories wouldn’t be such fairy tales.

The Hallmark Channel beats out CNN now in ratings. I guess because their fairly tales are more believable than CNN’s

I think we’ve crossed over into the obvious stage now. Clearly the eaters are to pay and obey. For the robbery we can expect nothing in return.

Nothing has a chance at correction until people realize that they aren’t working for us. If they need another “Citizen’s Temperance Committee” then maybe that’s what has to happen.

I can tell you that if people started to get rid of the problem they’d fight them tooth and nail. There would be PLENTY of help with that.

My question to Seattle residents would be, WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRAT LEADERS??!!

WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRAT LEADERS??!! Because they’re Democrats. No further explanation is necessary.

You can ask the same question in many places like LA, SF, Sac, Houston, NO, Dallas, Austin, Portland, Denver, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, NYC and many others. Let us know if you get a good answer,

Here in MA it’s all dems all the time, forever. It’s like Judaic tradition – it’s just the way things are done. Republicans don’t even bother running in most elections. Dems are all about power and they cling to it like velcro. I assume Seattle is in for the same fate. Once in, never out

My thought, exactly. Voters get what they deserve when they vote into office such as those running and ruining such cities as Seattle.

Well Bill, I don’t believe I should have to remind you that we live in a country where the “winner” takes all. When one factors gerrymandering into the mix it’s a crap shoot. I wouldn’t be too smug in looking at other areas of the country. Attacking “areas” is rather unproductive and silly. I’m neither a Demonrat or a Rethug. I’m ALWAYS the “victim”. I vote in every election but I won’t vote for any member of one of the two political wings of the Odor bird. I hardly think it appropriate that up to 49% of the voters in… Read more »

Good idea. They could all chip in and buy a backhoe. They could have this cleaned up in no time.

Paintball gun. 20-30 shots close in will leave him covered with welts and bruises for 1-2 weeks. If you prefer silent and effective, in case they are armed or otherwise insane and dangerous, try a crossbow. Otherwise just get a shotgun.

I live in Michigan, and we fall somewhere down on the list of good places to live for gun freedom, because when you buy a handgun, you must bring a piece of paper to your local police station, and register it with them. I dislike that, but it really is not that much of a problem. We have concealed carry shall issue, after an 8 hour class, half of which is class room and half range time. Having gone through that, I would say that is a bare minimum that one should go through, before they consider carrying concealed. Especially… Read more »

I lived in Everett, for 20+ years, just north of seattle. Even ran for mayor in 2009. Lost but had a great time.
The left coast is lost to America. My friends say prostitutes walk right in front of his business.home. They s..t and shoot up right in his back yard. He installed a camera and the police would not use it to ID the criminals.
The police changed the rules to they could say crime was down in the city. I attended that community meeting and was stopped trying to speak out.
That’s when I left the left coast.

I don’t know if I could have done this—it took a ton of chutzpah, and an equal amount of digust and distrust of local service….but this is what is is going to take these days when our laws and law-enforcement has sunk to the LOWEST common denominator as to what is “acceptable” on the streets and in “normal” society these days. Not to mention the “sancuary part” of our un-enforced Federal Laws. Otherwise, our local police & sheriff are out-gunned, out-lawed by our own elected reps at every level. It’s “every man for himself” these days. I have a 6-ft.… Read more »

Look, they’ve suddenly declared themselves to no longer be constrained by law. Just imagine what would happen if someone suggested blessing their fellow students during Lent.

This stuff makes Joe McCarthy look like Nostradamus.
