Wisconsin Democrats Leave Capital on Day of Vote, Protests Rage

Update at bottom: location of missing confirmed
As part of our continuing coverage of the teacher strike in Wisconsin, today we report that State Senate Democrats, fearing punishment from their union ATM machines supporters , have completely skipped out on their jobs as well.

Today is supposed to be the day the state legislature votes to pass Governor Walker’s new budget. Last year’s election-day tidal wave gave Republicans enough seats in that body to essentially pass whatever they want. Rumors leaked last night that Walker had secured enough Republican votes to assure his budget would pass.
Even so, it is necessary for the entire body to be present for such a major vote. At 11:30 Thursday morning when it became obvious the Democrats weren’t coming, the majority leader called on police to round up the missing lawmakers and escort them to the chamber. Failure to show up for this kind of vote counts as refusing to do their job and allows for police to aggressively recommend they come in.
While these Democrats cannot stop the vote from going against them, they can apparently stall the process by forcing Republicans to wait for police to round them up. Your humble blogger suspects a more serious motive: stalling the vote for another day or two would give the union time to grow a more drastic protest.
When the teachers in Madison compared themselves to Cairo, it would be wise to assume they weren’t kidding.
The biggest joke to emerge from this so far came from one teacher who bemoaned the lack of a “democratic process” being respected by state of Wisconsin. Yes they know there was an election less than six months ago which gave Walker a clear mandate – but no one actually thinks election results matter.
See, this is what you have to understand about progressives. When their side loses through democratic means, the simply pretend the election never happened and work to sabotage reform. When their side gets a victory, it’s called a democratic mandate.
And to think, liberals mocked certain people for predicting massive waves of civil unrest would land on American soil.

At what point will independents realize this train has a predetermined destination?

Update (6:30pm) – According to local media, the Democrats banded together and took a bus into Illinois. They are staying at a resort. Wisconsin police don’t have the jurisdiction to leave the state, Illinois police won’t deport them, and President Obama won’t do a darn thing.
If Republicans did a stunt like this you can guarantee the media would be hyperventilating.

  1. It’s time for these pro-union pissants to STFU and GBTW. If I was in Gov. Walker’s shoes I would get the National Guard to fill their positions for one week, I would tell the state employees that at the end of that week if they did not return to work, they would be terminated and they would lose all benefits including their pensions and health care, PERIOD!

  2. DITTO! catscanner-fire their ass! there is plenty of people that need work and care more about our childrens education. I’ll bet you anything they are bussing people in,just like the fairytale POS POTUS does whenever he talks.

  3. everything I have learned about this teachers union the last two years is down right sickening-they are pretty close to criminal-

  4. Stand strong Gov Walker. These bully unions must be stopped if we are going to rein in spending.

  5. Milk carton is now in play.

  6. But I forgot the link. Milk carton.
    There.

  7. I say fire all their asses.
The kids will be better off for it, as I cannot understand why parents who actually care about their children would pack them off to be “educated” by these teachers goonion morons in the first place.

  8. OBAMA’S ORGANIZING FOR AMERICA IS INVOLVED
Ben Smith at The Politico reported:
The Democratic National Committee’s Organizing for America arm – the remnant of the 2008 Obama campaign — is playing an active role in organizing protests against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s attempt to strip most public employees of collective bargaining rights.
OfA, as the campaign group is known, has been criticized at times for staying out of local issues like same-sex marraige, but it’s riding to the aide of the public sector unions who hoping to persuade some Republican legislators to oppose Walker’s plan. And while Obama may have his difference with teachers unions, OfA’s engagement with the fight — and Obama’s own clear stance against Walker — mean that he’s remaining loyal to key Democratic Party allies at what is, for them, a very dangerous moment.
The OFA Wisconsin twitter feed bragged about how they used students as props at their protests today.

  9. Question: Who’s paying for this little vacation… would that be the taxpayers? Oh, wait, the taxpayers are also paying for the work not being done while their representatives take their unscheduled taxpayer-paid vacation. But then again, the taxpayers are also paying for the teachers striking and their children not being educated… And THIS IS NOT CAIRO!! You don’t have women being sexually assaulted without any accountability. Reporters are not being beaten. No one has been shot. The governor is NOT a dictator. He has had no one beaten or shot. I would gladly pay for part of my health insurance and retirement because it meant I HAD A JOB. The ugly entitlement mentality has a stranglehold on too many in this country, who have become too PC to learn odd little concepts like not cutting off your nose to spite your face.

  10. This battle in Wisconsin is a microcosm of the larger, looming battle for our nation. Be thankful for it as it will help expose and define Obama and the Left. The “players” will be more clearly seen and the sides more understood because of this. The unions, their sympathizers, and the Dems who fled to another state to thwart the Democratic Process are Obama’s kinsmen. He is one of them.
This is Obama dividing America. It will be his legacy. It will get worse and will happen in other states. Stand strong, Gov. Walker!

    • O’s playing with dangerous fire. He will support the unions till the end. At a time when we need a leader with a clear head and leadership skills, all we have is a community organizer intent on pushing the lib agenda.
Wasn’t the SRM just touting how much O was like Reagan? Ha, O doesn’t have the cajones to pull a Reagan like with the air traffic controllers. God speed Gov Walker!
