Death penalty for father but not for an abortionist?

Texas Man Faces Death Penalty for Killing Unborn Baby A Texas man is being tried for killing an unborn baby during a vicious attack on his girlfriend. Michael Lee Cunningham will be charged with murder for the death of his own five-month-old unborn child, who was miscarried after Cunningham assaulted her mother. He will be facing the death penalty.
The woman, Courtney Quintana, 22, was in a parked car with Cunningham when the two began to argue. She reportedly got out of the car and he followed her, grabbing her by the hair and forced her against the side of the car, then slamming the car door repeatedly into her abdomen.
Quintana escaped and dialed 911, and the police arrived. Quintana was taken to the hospital and treated, but the baby could not be saved. Cunningham had fled the scene by the time police arrived, but was eventually tracked down and arrested. Police say that alcohol was a factor in the assault and murder.
Texas law considers killing an unborn child to be murder unless the killing is done during a legal abortion. The reason Cunningham is facing the death penalty is because Texas law also stipulates that if a murder is committed in the course of committing another felony, it automatically becomes a capital case. Since the assault on Quintana was a felony in itself, the subsequent death of her child has become a case of capital murder.
The assault took place on February 23 of this year. Ironically, had the unborn baby being killed by an abortionist on February 22, no charges would’ve been filed against anyone.
Ironic, indeed.

  1. Cases like this is a reminder, once again, that our present perverse pro-abortion laws really mean this:
Whether the unborn is recognized as “a person” is strictly and ENTIRELY the decision of the woman (I won’t call her a “mother”). If she wants the child, then the law says “yup, a person!” and killing the child is homicide. But if the woman does not want the child, then the law says “yup, not a person!” and killing the child not only isn’t homicide, it is celebrated by the pro-aborts.
We are living in a time when collectively and by law, we’ve ceded the power over life and death of another human being to any and all pregnant women. Frightening.

    • And this is just one whisker away from deeming burdensome old people who have “no quality of life” and are “incompetent to make decisions for themselves” as prime candidates for a gentle push into the afterlife. Where do they draw the line?
