Huh? What?

Huh? What?

I knew I couldn’t be the only one who saw this. Thank you Daily Mail, for confirming my eyesight. ~ TD

Why does the devil in ‘The Bible’ look exactly like President Obama?

By JAMES NYE  PUBLISHED: 02:08 EST, 18 March 2013
Sunday evening’s episode of the History Channel’s hit series ‘The Bible’ threw up an awkward coincidence when viewers noticed that Satan bore a remarkable resemblance to President Obama.
Twitter exploded into life during the airing of the latest edition of the Mark Burnett-produced series with most noting the striking similarities between the 44th President and the devil played by actor Mehdi Ouzaani.
The show has been a surprise hit in the ratings, with the religious mini-series attracting 13.1 million viewers on Wednesday – topping television leviathan American Idol’s 12.8 million viewers on Wednesday.
Right-wing commentator and radio-host Glenn Beck first pointed out the eerie similarity on Saturday, tweeting, ‘Anyone else think the Devil in #TheBible Sunday on History Channel looks exactly like That Guy?’
Others were simply struck by the clear physical match.
While Matthew Gaudet commented, ‘Watching The Bible series on the History channel and noticed the guy playing the role of Satan, looks strikingly similar to Obama.’
The unfortunate incident bares comparison with HBO’s infamous inclusion of a fake George W. Bush head impaled onto a stick during the background of a Season 1 Game of Thrones episode.
When the incident went viral, the network announced it was pulling the offending episode – from its rotation, freezing shipments of DVD box sets and halting sales on iTunes until the embarrassing blunder had been fixed.
‘We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste,’ HBO said in a statement.
‘We made this clear to the executive producers of the series, who apologized immediately for this careless mistake.
‘We condemn it in the strongest possible terms and have halted all future shipments of the DVDs, removed it from our digital platforms and will edit the scene for all future airings on any distribution domestic or international.’
HBO and the show’s creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, apologized for the incident.
Mr Benioff and Mr Weiss, who noted the appearance in the series’ DVD commentary, insist it wasn’t a political statement – just a prop.
It remains to be seen whether this particular presidential mishap will create a similar backlash against the wildly popular mini-series.
The Mark Burnett-produced program retells the stories from the scriptures in a scripted format, from Genesis through to Revelation, the last book of the New Testament.
The miniseries’ popularity is somewhat of a mystery. For one, the drama wasn’t a hit with television critics, receiving a mediocre score of 44 on the Metacritic site.
‘As a cable series, The Bible lacked the ready-made, large scale promotional platform and popular lead-in that can drive strong ratings for a new show on a major broadcast network, of the kind NBC was, for many years,’ writes a columnist in The Washington Times.
Indeed, Burnett told Entertainment Weekly that the series’ success seemed almost preordained while it was being made.
‘The hand of God was on this,’ he said in an interview before the show’s premiere. ‘The edit came together perfectly, the actors came together perfectly, it just comes to life.’
Mr Burnett, who is most famous for creating reality shows such as Survivor and produced The Bible along with his actress wife Roma Downey, described a number of ‘weird things’ which drew the attention of cast and crew during filming.
In one scene, filmed during a still night on the edge of the desert, Jesus tells the priest Nicodemus, ‘The Holy Spirit is like the wind.’
According to Mr Burnett: ‘At that moment, a wind, like as if a 747 was taking off, blew his hair, almost blew the set over and sustained for 20 seconds across the desert.
‘Everyone just looked at everyone like, ‘What just happened?’
The Bible is airing on the History Channel in two-hour chunks on Sunday nights, and has been the surprise winner in its timeslot.
The series will air its finale on March 31, Easter Sunday.

  1. Too funny Stephanie!
I think the look and the quack are very recognizable.

  2. It was a much better protrait of Satan than the image of Pan (greek) as Satan. Love the series!

  3. “Why does the devil in ‘The Bible’ look exactly like President Obama?”
    Duh…. Occam’s Razor, every one! 😀
Actually, Obama’s acolytes should wear this as a badge of pride. After all, Saul Alinsky — the POS’s ideological mentor in “community organizing” Marxist rabble-rousing — had dedicated his book Rules for Radicals to none other than Lucifer the Devil.
Alinsky so admired Lucifer that he said in a 1972 Playboy magazine interview, he wanted to join Satan in Hell. I’m sure he got his wish.

    • Bingo!!! Great call Dr. Eowyn!!!
This is a fantastic example of Occam’s Razor!
I hate to see the producers back-peddling and redacting the show. I was looking forward to the temptation in the desert, to get a better look. I can only imagine what kind of pressure the executives at the “History” channel put on the makers of the series.

  4. I’m confused. I never knew that Samson was a Rastafarian either. maybe the producers are just wanting to be PC, but when it comes down to it, they have cast minorities in positions they never would have held in real life. I wonder if the Queen of Sheba will be white since she’s supposed to be evil.

    • Hi racefish,
The choice of the actor for Samson surprised me, too. On the other hand, considering the proximity of Africa, I think we too often presume we will see only white Israelites.
PS: I never heard the Queen of Sheba described as evil. Where did you get that? Also, one of the first converts to Christianity was an Ethiopian eunuch, returning from a visit to Judea. He was studying the prophet, Isaiah, so I can only assume he was Jewish.

      • Supposedly Samson was a Jew and lived before the formation of the nation of Israel. From what we know, the Israelites were originally nomads who had no country but traveled in the fertile Crescent. Much of their earliest history took place in what is now Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, etc. With that in mind, someone who didn’t “resemble” the indigenous people were looked upon with suspicion.
It makes me wonder when some of these stories actually took place since archeological finds give credence to so many. It just makes the time lines seem askew.

        • I think they are deliberately mixing the races beyond likelihood, to make a racial harmony statement. But I would caution everyone (myself included), that God made all the races, and assumption that all Biblical characters look like medieval Germans is also a mistake.

  5. Hey, if his supporters feel he looks like the Devil, who’re we to judge… wouldn’t be tolerant, you know.

  6. I have been ROFL about this all morning.
Yes, I am just sure this is a coincidence. 😉

    • The History Channel is redacting their footage as fast as they can. I think it’s likely we won’t even see the actor who originally played Satan in the series. If I were that actor, I would sue the network.

  7. Couldn’t happen to a ‘nicer guy’…If the shoe fits…

  8. I’m sure they’re speaking honestly. I know a number of Christians who see the president as a fellow Christian, and as such, we should really pray for him. How will he do before God, explaining his support for partial birth abortion?
I checked the actor who played the role, and all other images of him show no resemblance to the president. It seems the whole production was surprised by this. Maybe they should ask some deeper questions about why this happened.
Is the president actually the devil? Of course not! But there are reasons we see these strange things happen. I honestly pray for him and his family that he would be able to wake up before he supports any more muslims or abortionists. God certainly loves him, too, and Michelle, Sasha and Malia.

    • Ma’am, the spirit of the anti Christ is something perhaps that should or could be taken into account.
God IS love, which is slightly different from your description of God certainly loving the nominal president and his wife and children and he certainly has made it clear in his word what he HATES.
So having addressed these two issues, remember that our sense perception is very much the same as the sense perception of animals, so we have to operate in the spirit realm or in the noisphere, or whatever you call the realm of human understaning over and above sense perception, i.e. we are to walk by faith not by sight yes?
and then perhaps the way Satan is portrayed in the ible mini series is a portrayal of the spirit of the anti christ, and that could be what people have picked up on? The only other explanation I can come up with is that Hollywood is said to be a hot bed of CIA propaganda movie making? and perhaps this was slipped into the episode by the CIA doing PR for Satan? Go figure. Jimi Hendrix wrote some great songs and one of his greatest lines went thus.
You don’t have to believe everything you see and hear, excuse me and I”ll be on my way………………………

  9. Resemblance to the Devil Huh… I told them so!

  10. Hi Stephanie,
    Do you mean Walter Cronkite?

  11. That’s probably a spitting image of what Obama will look like by 2016! They say Presidents age tremendously because of the “heavy load of responsibility” they carry day in and day out! They work sooooo hard, they’re sooooo stressed and worry sooooo much about the welfare of our country..that it just changes their appearance totally! (…You think?)

  12. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Stephanie, for making me spit coffee all over the computer!

  13. The quotes in red text gave me goosebumps! That is awesome!

  14. It took a news outlet outside of the country to tell the emperor he has no clothes.

  15. At least they got something right! I heard the series is filled with much error. Too busy being politically correct and not following the Bible literally. I’m not watching it!

    • You might like it sparrow59. They are giving it a pretty good try. The PC stuff isn’t as bad as I expected, and watching the series may provide talking points with people you want to reach.

      • Trail Dust, check out Beginning and End website for a good review of this series and it’s advisors. I would link it here but I’m not that tech savvy! 🙂

  16. Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni is the actor who played the part of the Devil in Bible. This is what he really looks like:
While I can see a resemblance with Obama President Lucifer, Ouazanni exudes a very different vibe/spirituality than the POS.

    • Thank you for the real picture of this fine actor. He has great goodness in his face, including joy. They surely did an incredible make-up job on him to transform him into Satan.

  17. Thank you Trail Dust for this incredibly interesting post! When I saw the devil in his appearance when he tried to attempt Our Lord, Jesus, I saw the resemblance immediately and grabbed onto the arm of the couch, stood up and said, “Oh my God” talking to myself, as my husband goes to bed early. It is really incredible. This series on the Bible is magnificent. I love the way the angels are portrayed in their conversations with humankind. I especially loved the two Archangels take care of the enemies in the Sodom portrayal. Magnificent!
I also admire so much Roma Downey. She plays the “older” Mary. On World Over Live on EWTN, I listened to her interview with Raymond Arroyo. She is such a beautiful lady, inside and out. She told everyone how much of a devotion and love she has for Our Lady, the Blessed Mother. I can’t wait to see her portraying our spiritual mother.

    • Same here, Joan. I am really getting into this series. It will surely have a powerful effect on our culture. What I like about the angels is that they are portrayed as described in the Bible, as really seeming to be men.
