Christians are leaving the U.S. military

Jacqueline Klimas reports for The Washington Times, April 15, 2015, that Christians are leaving the U.S. military or are discouraged from joining in the first place because of a “hostile work environment” that doesn’t let them express their beliefs openly, according to religious freedom advocates.
They include:
1. Douglas Lee, an Army chaplain who, as president of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, is charged with finding people who want to be chaplains and make sure they’re also qualified to serve in the military. Lee said that growing religious hostility within the military is making it harder for him to find potential recruits and for the armed forces to maintain the chaplains it does have. “I know people who get out, officers and chaplains, who’ve said, ‘I can’t serve the way I want to in this environment. People who’ve said, ‘Because of the religious liberty challenges I see, I think I’ll serve somewhere else.'”
2. Michael Berry, senior counsel of the Liberty Institute, a Texas-based nonprofit legal group dedicated to defending and restoring religious liberty across America — in our schools, for our churches, in the military and throughout the public arena. Berry said that recent high-profile cases of military chaplains facing punishment for private counseling sessions that reflected the teachings of their religion could cause devout Americans who are qualified for military service to think twice about joining the military. “People of faith are going to stay away from the military. I can’t tell you how many moms and dads I’ve spoken to who say, ‘My son or daughter wants to join the military, [but] in light of what you’ve described, I’m not sure I want to let them join the military anymore,’ and I don’t blame them. I would have serious reservations about my own kids joining.”
Berry points out that not being able to recruit or retain Christians is very dangerous from a national security standpoint because they could be the military’s next group of leaders, but will never serve because they don’t think they’re welcome. Berry said he thinks the “hostile work environment” that is forcing the most religious persons out of the military is only getting worse, and that while in the past problems were mainly in the Air Force, religious liberty issues have spread throughout all the services. “The problem is getting worse, not better, despite our efforts. There is a culture [of] hostility [toward] religion in the military right now.”
3. Travis Weber, director of the Center for Religious Liberty at the Family Research Council, notes that the hostility is directed not at all religious groups, but against Christians in particular. He said he’s seen a recent uptick and pattern of Christians facing persecution for religious expression.
In effect, it is neither incorrect nor hyperbolic to describe the U.S. military under Obama as anti-Christ.
The military had 2,837 active-duty chaplains as of December 2014, according to numbers provided by the Defense Department. The largest group was the Southern Baptist Convention, with 437 members. More than 200 chaplains are affiliated with the Roman Catholic church, while 26 are Jewish, and just one is Hindu.
DOD spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen insists that “The Department of Defense respects, places a high value on and supports by policy the rights of members of the military services to observe the tenets of their respective religions or to have no religious beliefs. The mission of the chaplain corps is to provide care and the opportunity for service members, their families and other authorized personnel to exercise their constitutional right to the free exercise of religion.” Blah, blah, blah.
The Liberty Institute warns that the abuse of religious freedom within the U.S. military “has intensified under the Obama Administration, and its now reaching crisis level.”
Below are examples of such abuses, in which our service men and women – the very people who fight for our freedoms – are having their First Amendment rights taken away:

Mikey Weinstein
In the above cases, Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, is the main instigator. Weinstein said that while chaplains can believe whatever their religion teaches, those who think they must act on religious teachings about sex or sexuality have no place in the military. “You can continue to believe that internally, but if you have to act on that, the right thing to do is to get out of the U.S. military, because you have no right to tell a member of the military that they’re inferior because of the way they were born” — which doesn’t make any sense.
Weinstein said he thinks the chaplain corps would work better if chaplains were totally outside the military force structure and didn’t have a military rank because having religious leaders in the military serves as propaganda for Islamic extremist groups who try to paint the U.S. military as religious crusaders — which is a straw-man argument.

  1. Under obama the followers of Jesus are not welcomed in the military or any part of the government (this administration is actively purging Christians from all levels of government and is creating a vacuum that satan’s followers will fill). I would seriously discourage any of my children from joining the military and sacrificing their lives for this degenerate, corrupt, and satanic corporatocracy.

  2. Gee, thanks, Mikey… I’m sure the jihadis appreciate your work. 😉

    • What to you expect. We have former Bible Belt pastor Stephen Mansfield write a book called “The Faith of the American solider”, but then writes also….get this……”the Faith of Barack Obama”!?!?!?!?
Stephen Mansfield says, and has said numerous times (google yourself) Our President is a Christian!!!
This is a former Bible Belt pastor, who wants to look patriotic and like a hero, but this is the problem!! A pastor who wants to support the military men, is at the same time destroying them and this country by preaching through his writing a book on Obama, and his faith? What faith? Faith in the Koran?
Obama referred to the Koran as the “Holy Koran” in his Cairo speech, I wonder if Stephen Mansfield wants to put a Koran in the back packs of our soldiers?
Mansfield had Desmond Tutu endorse his book on Obama’s faith on the front cover, and you know Tutu has preached tirelessly that the clergy should accept homosexual bishops!! Well maybe Mansfield saw the day that his Book promoting Obama would lead to Obama appointing a gay to lead the army (Eric Fanning). I mean if you are a pastor of 20 years in the Bible belt, and you write a book about Obama telling people what a great man of faith he is, all the while ignoring he is pro muslim, pro LGBT, PRO SOCIALIST, PRO ABORTION, ANTI GOD, ANTI JESUS, ANTI ISRAEL, and then you put a pro homosexual Anglican priest on the cover, then you go out and hang out with our military to write a book on how great our military men & women are (which they are indeed), I mean what are you accomplishing!!!!! your fony!!!!! you are the one destroying the fabric of the church, our nation, and exalting yourself with your pathetic book that assisted this demonic possessed president to get elected in the frist place.
No wonder military men & women want to leave, they can thank Stephen Mansfield for all his hard work!!!

    • I think Stephen Mansfield does want to have the soldiers be given a Koran, just look at all his work on his book on “The Faith of Barack Obama”. And he calls Obama a Christian. We know Obama called the Koran the “holy Koran” 3 times in his Cairo speech, but only referred to the HOLY BIBLE as “bible”, NO WAY OBAMA would call GOD’S BOOK HOLY. so maybe since Stephen is such a great spokesmen ( I mean a pastor for 20 years in the Bible belt!) that if Stephen writes this book on Obama’s faith (wow, what faith??), and subsequently the president eloquently refers to the Koran as HOLY, then maybe our military will want to read such a holy work. Stephen is putting Obama up as a great Chrisitan man, so if your a little private in the military and listen to Stephen, then see Obama citing this great holy piece of work (the Koran) then you may want to ask Stephen Mansfield to order these precious book for our military. So the day may be coming when the Bible is prohibited from the military, and the Koran is allowed. Who can we thank? Men like Stephen Mansfield, who through his book swayed voters to see Obama as a man of faith, all the while Obama has pushed the Muslim agenda, inviting refugees who are muslim to the US but keeping those refugees who are Christians out of the US like in Syria? wow, is that a Christian stance, to weaken our nation and strengthen our enemies?
the president knows that he is doing, it is sfort of too late now, but most people realize that Obama had an agenda all along, an agenda to destry the nation. he is not trying to help this nation, I think he will live in a muslim nation whenit is all over, I guess that may be America, we are slowly giving in. Our moral collapse, economic and then finally military collapse. Such great leaders, pastors and writers, they write about their stupid thoughts but they hardly quote the Bible. They need to put their stupid books down, repent, and read GOD’S HOLY BIBLE, and not promote their polluted writings such as the Faith of Barack Obama, I ask again what faith? W’hat has Obama displayed when it comes to faith, faith in what? he lit up the white house in rainbow colors after we descecrated marriage, wow, you think God likes someone taking his symbol of the rainbow which happens to be around His throne, and which is a symbol of his grace in judgement, and then see a president mock God and light up the whitehouse after we destroy the sanctity of this holy institution of marriage?
Come on folks, wake up church!!!!

  3. Weinstein clearly 1) doesn’t understand ISIS and their motivations and goals and/or 2) does understand ISIS and now conveniently uses our fear of terrorism as a means to justify his agenda.
He’d be more honest if he left it as this: “…having religious leaders in the military serves as propaganda…”

    • Weinstein isn’t stupid. His animus is against Christ and Christianity. He’s just being consistent with the Left’s making common cause with radical Islam: “our enemy’s enemy is our friend.”

      • Even though, in the world of radical Islam, our enemies hate and kill each other… though they’ll take a break to kill us, of course.

  4. It’s no surprise to me-This Badministration has gone beyond Legal,Constitutional and Moral to make the Military worse than Prison for Christians. Makes me wonder-What if the Military refused the alleged president’s “improvements” in total, and carried on with their Duties with Honor, high Moral values and Pride in making the Military what THEY believe it SHOULD be?

    • Truck—who could those 6 people be who didn’t like your post? Methinks they protest too much!!!!(IOW…what IF, as you implied, the members of the military refused to honor the UNCONSTIUTIONAL “pen and phone” edicts of our recent king….I mean, President Obama?….THEN what could happen?)

      • Mikey Weinstein’s atheist foundation had a link to this post, which brought in at least 10 commenters also saying the same lie — that Christians in the U.S. military “force” their religious beliefs on others. I did not let those comments through. Weinstein’s followers gave the thumbs-down.

  5. Beware the Zionist Jews like Mikey Weinstein, they hate Christians and will never change their ways. The antichrist will be a Jew. Jesus said that he came to the Jews and they rejected him but another (Jew claiming to be messiah) will come and they will receive him. The US is overrun with these kind of people and they are very powerful and well funded. These are the ones behind the FEMA camps and the take down of the Middle East and other countries around the world.
    Christians beware.
Real Jew news is a great site to get more info.

  6. If you curse Jews and Israel you too will be cursed. Enjoy the fruit of your blabbing mouth.
“The wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peace loving…”- James. Maybe it’s time for true American Christians to prepare and ready themselves for the spiritual war that now rages about us. And let the government’s military simply turn on itself.

  7. Reading this pity party makes me wanna puke! What you’re really sobbing about it that the domionist clique looking to control the world’s strongest military has been exposed and called out. Consider your ‘sources’ wrong-wing rags like Wast Times… does anybody with half a brain believe any of the crap it publishes? The entire wrong-wing Christian community in the U.S. is up in arms over the fact that their finally being made to live according to the tenants of the U.S. Constitutions rather than the sub-rosa, wink-and-a-nod Christian exceptionalism that’s characterized the nation since its founding despite the clear provisions of the founders’ intent. Further to listen to you whine about ‘persecution’ for being made to follow the law, while people of all faiths around the world suffer real persecution (in case you’re confused, that means: torture, death, and a host of other really bad things under totalitarian religious regimes such as you’d install here given half a chance). You dishonor their real sacrifices by your sniveling. But, why am I wasting my time railing at a bunch of Christian supremacists?

    • “But, why am I wasting my time railing at a bunch of Christian supremacists?”
      Indeed, why are you?
      marshalldoc is antiChrist

    • “…while people of all faiths around the world suffer real persecution (in case you’re confused, that means: torture, death…” You mean like the 13 who died and 30 who were injured by Hasan in Texas (you should be well aware of that incident since your IP address states Texas) due to his religious beliefs? The dishonor is that our “CIC” labeled this incident as workplace violence instead of what it really was: terrorism.
And we are not confused about real persecution Marshalldoc. If you had bothered to click on the Islam page on our blog, you’d find many posts about torture, death, and a host of other really bad things under totalitarian religious regimes.

  11. It should not surprise anybody. When you have traitors in the white house and congress that are willing to give terrorist and our enemies what ever they want and not to mention condoning the raping of innocent young boys in afghanistan by filthy perverts.

During Obama’s time in office – they tried to run out all of the Christians in the Military – instead of pulling the rug out from under Obama – they put the rug in for Obama. They removed the Bible in the Military and the Military Christians COULD NOT PRAY – but the Muslims in the Military could pray.
That was the problem in the Military – have they straightened this out?
Obama was and is a Muslim. Until they get this ragging Mueller and the Dem’s, who are traitors to America, in jail for subversion to this country – nothing is going to change. What is the hold up?
