How’s that gun control working in Washington State since new laws were passed?

Washington State has some strict gun control laws. Presidential candidate demorat Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bunch more of new laws on May 7 saying, “Our state is a leader on #gunsafety but more work is needed to protect our students & the people of WA. That’s why today I am so happy to sign bills that ban untraceable ghost guns, keep guns away from our most vulnerable Washingtonians & improve gun safety overall.”

Some of their gun control laws include the following (from Wikipedia):

Statutory law prohibits firearms to persons under 21 years of age.

Police may temporarily seize guns from people a judge deems a threat to themselves or others.

In November 2018, voters approved I-1639 that includes increased background checks, firearm safety training, waiting periods before semiautomatic assault rifles may be purchased or delivered, and require certain secured firearm storage or trigger-locks, and criminalize certain firearm storage if it results in unauthorized use.

So of course, shootings must be down since the new laws were enacted, right? Wrong.

In the last month, Seattle has had more than one reported shooting a day somewhere in the city; two of those incidents resulted in death.

Here’s a summary of recent shootings in Washington:

Deadly shooting in Seattle fourth shooting scene across Puget Sound area in 12 hours (May 29)

Woman, 2 Children Hurt In Shooting At Seattle’s Pritchard Beach (May 27)

Two more shootings after fatal Central District incident in Seattle (May 11)

Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Everett woman (May 25)

Man allegedly hiding drugs in butt accidentally shoots himself in testicles (This man has 13 felonies yet somehow obtained a firearm; May 22)

East Central (Spokane) shooting victim crawled through window, was discovered by residents who’d never met him (May 22)

Rockford shooting suspect arrested in Washington state (May 8)

Fight among three generations of men escalates into gunfire (In Everett; May 29)

Woman shot in the face at Marine Park in Tacoma (May 7)

Overnight shooting in Tacoma (May 7)

Silly demorats…

Thousands in Illinois may still have firearms despite having FOIDs revoked

From MyFoxChicago: (AP) – Tens of thousands of Illinois residents whose gun licenses have been revoked could still be in possession of firearms, according to an analysis of state records by the Chicago Tribune.

The failure of the system was underscored in February when a man killed five former colleagues and wounded five police officers in Aurora, Illinois, using a gun he kept despite the revocation of his Firearm Owner’s Identification card in 2014.

Local police departments are supposed to ensure that those whose licenses have been revoked surrender their permits within 48 hours and fill out a form stating their guns have been passed to a legal gun owner or the police.

But since 2015, nearly 27,000 Illinois residents whose FOID cards have been revoked haven’t updated authorities on what they have done with their firearms, the Tribune reported. That means authorities do not know whether 78% of those revoked cardholders still own guns.

“I will say the depth and breadth of the problem did take me back just a bit,” said acting Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly, who has made FOID revocation compliance a priority since he took office this year. “The only way we are going to be able to take a bite out of this problem is just laying it all out there: the good, the bad and the ugly.”

FOID cards can be revoked for a number of reasons: felony convictions or indictments; convictions involving domestic abuse; being subject to an order of protection; being deemed a mental health risk; dishonorable discharge from the military; or being found to be in the country illegally.

Local police departments are informed by state police when a card has been rescinded, but most don’t prioritize checking on the status of remaining weapons due to a lack of resources, officers or background information.

Failure to ensure compliance over so many years has created a substantial backlog that will require a coordinated, costly effort to resolve.

A bill pending in Springfield would raise cardholder fee from $10 for 10 years to subsidize a task force to follow up on revocations. The legislation would also mandate fingerprinting to obtain a FOID card, a step supporters say would significantly increase the chance of identifying an applicant’s criminal background.

Gun rights advocates say the measure would be an unconstitutional encroachment on Second Amendment rights and have vowed to challenge it in court if it passes into law.

This is Chiraq: 32 shot – 5 fatally – by early Sunday evening of Memorial Day Weekend

New Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot is going to have her hands full…

Guess the thugs missed the memo that the women of color now in charge of Chiraq are going to fundamentally transform that sh*thole…

From MyFoxChicago: At least 32 people have been shot — five fatally — in Chicago so far over Memorial Day weekend, including five people shot in a single incident Sunday on the Near West Side. (I scheduled this at 8:30 pm on Sunday night.)

The shooting happened just after 6 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, Chicago police said. Officers responding to a call of a male firing shots in the area found several men and women suffering from various gunshot wounds.

Two men, 27 and 26 years old, were taken to Stroger Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Two women who were sitting in a black sedan were shot as well, and both are in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. One woman, 31, had been struck in the hip and the other, 25, was hit in the left arm.
A third man, who police think may be a possible offender, is in custody at Stroger Hospital and being treated for a graze wound to his nose.

In addition to the man being treated for the graze wound, detectives are questioning two more people of interest in relation to the shooting, police said. Several weapons were recovered at the scene.

Police believe the incident is related to an earlier shooting Sunday morning in which a man was killed and a woman wounded on the same block of West Hastings, according to Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Officers responded to a large group disturbance about 1:33 a.m. in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, police said. They heard reports of gunshots and found a 27-year-old man hit in the chest and unresponsive.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. A 25-year-old woman was hit in the forearm and took herself to the same hospital. Her condition was stabilized, and no one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.

Two people were killed in separate shootings Saturday in Winneconna Parkway and Roseland on the South Side.

Joe Biden: Second Amendment doesn’t mean you’re entitled to own a gun

The 2020 presidential campaign season has already begun.

New Hampshire, like Iowa, is an early primary state. That’s why Joe Biden went to New Hampshire last Monday and Tuesday, May 13-14, 2019, blabbering about “restoring the working class in America”.

But Biden also said something that should alarm every gun-owner.

Unreported by other news media, AWR Hawkins of Breitbart is the only reporter of the 6-7 other media accounts I’ve read who took note of this. In Hawkins’ words:

Former Vice President Joe Biden admitted that the “Second Amendment exists” but stressed during his speech in New Hampshire on Tuesday that it does not say everyone is “entitled” to own a gun.

Biden, who was taking questions at a small outdoor venue . . . also spoke about past gun bans he supported. He specifically referenced the 1994 “assault weapons” ban and noted that it also “limited the number of bullets in a clip.” Additionally, he spoke about being former President Barack Obama’s point man for gun control following the December 14, 2012, attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School.

He said, “There are so many other things we can do to make schools safer, other than arming teachers.” He did not specify, however, what those other things are. Rather, he pivoted to the next question.

Since announcing his candidacy on April 25, Biden has skyrocketed in the polls to be the leading candidate among the plethora of Demonrat presidential aspirants. Biden has more than tripled his margin of advantage over his closest competitor – Senator Sanders – from 4 points to 20 points, according to Morning Consult.

Christa Case Bryant of The Christian Science Monitor says Biden’s “front-runner status can be attributed in part to the strong support he’s getting from African American voters. But it’s not only that…. Biden’s calls to unify a deeply divided country appear to be resonating with many voters whose No. 1 priority is ending what they see as a dangerous presidency that is corroding American democracy…average people who yearn not only for more comfortable financial circumstances but also a deeper sense of dignity and pride.”

“A deeper sense of dignity and pride”?

Gag me with a spoon.

You mean like this?

And lest we forget: “Vice President Joe Biden likes to swim nude in front of female Secret Service agents,” August 2, 2014.

God help us from America’s low information voters!

Seattle socialist councilmember believes speed bumps will curb drive-by shootings

Socialist Kshama Sawant

Socialist Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant isn’t the brightest. Back in 2013 when Boeing employees were in the midst of contract negotiations, Sawant said the machinists should take over the plant and re-tool the machines to mass produce transit buses instead of war machines.

Her latest idea? Install speed bumps to reduce drive-by shootings.

As reported by MyNorthwest.com, there has been several drive-by shootings in the Central District of Seattle.

At a recent meeting, Sawant said, “Several CD residents have reached out to us with proposals to address the incidents of gun violence, including concrete changes to space usage and vehicular traffic, which they believe could have a positive impact, and help reduce the incidences of drive-by shootings,”

Sawant went on to acknowledge that “we are aware that environmental design as gun control measures will be insufficient if the overarching problems faced by our society remain unaddressed.”

“Statistically speaking as nationwide studies have systematically shown, reducing inequality has the greatest impact on reducing violence and crime, and improving public safety for working people,” she continued.”

Know what else she wants to do to end drive-by shootings? BAN SEMI-AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

Kamala Harris vows to take executive action on gun control if elected

Fortunately this womyn has a slim chance of taking the lead of the demorat presidential candidates.

From NY Post: Sen. Kamala Harris pledged Sunday that she will pursue executive action on gun control measures if Congress fails to act in the first 100 days of her presidential administration.

“I’m proposing, one, that if by my 100th day in office when elected president of the United States, if the United States Congress fails to put a bill on my desk … then I’m prepared to take executive action because that’s what’s needed: action,” Harris, a California Democrat and 2020 hopeful, said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Harris had first articulated the plan at a CNN town hall in late April, but bought it up again Sunday on the heels of yet another school shooting, in which 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo was killed after rushing the gunman to save his classmates.

“We are not waiting on tragedies and we are not waiting on good ideas,” Harris said, pointing to the “heroism of a child who we now mourn his loss, his parents’ only child.”

When asked how she liked Sen. Cory Booker’s (D-N.J.) proposal for a federal gun registry she answered, “I like the idea. But, Jake, I’m going to tell you, on the issue of the need for gun safety laws, we’re not at any loss for good ideas. People have been having good ideas for decades on this issue.”

Booker is also vying for the White House.

Harris said that the country was waiting for Congress to act. If she was forced to take executive action, Harris said she would require those who sell more than five guns a year to do background checks. She would also have the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives take away licenses from gun dealers that don’t follow the law.

Harris also expressed support for government intervention in dealing with Facebook. Co-founder Chris Hughes said Thursday that the social network should be broken up.

Asked by Tapper if she agreed with Hughes, Harris answered, “yes, I think we have to seriously take a look at that, yes.”

“I mean, when you look at the issue, they’re essentially a utility. Like, there are very few people that can actually get by and be involved in their communities or society or in whatever their profession without somehow, somewhere using Facebook,” Harris said. “It’s very difficult for people to be engaged in any level of commerce without – so, we have to recognize it for what it is. It is essentially a utility that has gone unregulated. And as far as I’m concerned, that’s got to stop.”

Over the course of the interview, Harris also tried to clean up comments she made to Tapper in January when she said she wanted to do away with private health insurance. Harris explained that while she supported Medicare-for-all “it doesn’t get rid of all insurance.” “It was in the context of saying, let’s get rid of all the bureaucracy. Let’s get rid of all the waste,” she said of her previous remark.

Harris said the Medicare-for-all bill she supports “doesn’t get rid of supplemental insurance.”

The legislation also entitles all residents of the United States to health care services.

Tapper asked if this meant Harris supported giving health care to illegal immigrants. “Let me just be very clear about this. I’m opposed to any policy that would deny in our country any human being from access to public safety, public education or public health, period,” Harris answered.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee Signs Seven Anti Gun Bills in a Single Day

Washington’s Demorat Gov. Jay Inslee signed seven bills into law Tuesday (May 7) that will add yet more draconian restrictions to civilian gun ownership. The new laws are a litany of re-hashed left wing feel good anti-gun pablum, which will have virtually no effect on reducing crime or improving safety. But they will serve to further the left’s desire to disarm, and thus control the populace.

Inslee, who has entered the race for president, apparently is a true believer in trying to destroy the 2nd Amendment. He has a long history of voting for anti-gun legislation. In 1994, he voted in favor of federal legislation that would have banned the manufacture, sale and possession of “combat-style assault weapons,” a stance that probably cost him his House seat in 1995. Had the bill passed, it would have effectively sent most firearms manufacturers into bankruptcy.

The new laws restrict access in a number of ways, including bans on “ghost guns” and red flag confiscations for juveniles and domestic violence suspects.

One bill that Inslee has yet to sign would require police to confiscate any weapons found on the property of a domestic violence call and put them on a five-day hold, regardless if they were used in a crime or not.

“Our state is a leader on #gunsafety but more work is needed to protect our students & the people of WA. That’s why today I am so happy to sign bills that ban untraceable ghost guns, keep guns away from our most vulnerable Washingtonians & improve gun safety overall,” Gov. Inslee tweeted.

Renee Hopkins, head of the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, an advocacy group that supports the governor, said the new laws will make Washington “one of the states with the strongest laws in regard to preventing gun violence.”

Hopkins ignores the fact, backed up by FBI statistics, that gun control has absolutely no effect on reducing crime.

Gun policy watchers have said the bills fit into a broader pattern of legislation around the U.S. Instead of adding new restrictions for all gun owners, the measures generally focus on specific risk groups such as domestic abusers, violent felons or people experiencing a psychiatric crisis.

“It’s taking a risk-based approach to it, and really looking at the situations that we know are highest risk,” said Hopkins, referring to Tuesday’s bills as well as previous legislation involving suicide prevention and secure storage requirements.

Anti-gun advocates in at least 13 states have also successfully pushed extreme risk protection orders, which allow courts or police to summarily confiscate guns without a hearing simply based on perceived risk.

Washington already allows such orders, and one of Tuesday’s bills allows them to be entered against minors, which advocates called an effort to combat school shootings.

By comparison, broader gun control legislation has often struggled to find support in recent years, including in Washington state, where an assault weapons ban and a ban on high capacity magazines failed even though Democrats control both chambers of the state Legislature.

Critics of the new restrictions say even the narrower Washington state bills weaken gun rights, and chip away at the basic God given right of self defense.

Joe Waldron, a spokesman for the Gun Owners Action League of Washington, a group that lobbies against gun control, said he was concerned that some of the bills lacked due process protections and collectively amount to a growing set of restrictions that will affect all gun owners.

“They’re just as happy expanding the list of people that can’t have guns,” Waldron said. “Piece by piece, they’re chopping away.”

Extreme risk protection orders gained traction nationwide after a 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed. It was later revealed that the gunman had been able to access weapons despite early warnings to police.

Waldron believes such orders could be misused.

The bill focused on people on psychiatric holds broadens who can be temporarily barred from possessing a gun after being held under the state’s Involuntary Treatment Act.

State law previously allowed such blocks for people who were ordered to be committed by a judge. Tuesday’s bill makes the blocks automatic even for people held only for 72 hours — a decision made by a medical expert without a judge’s approval.

State law currently bars guns for people found incompetent in criminal trials and then involuntarily committed by a judge, but that block is now set to expand to include people found incompetent but released instead of being committed.

People under restraining orders and domestic violence offenders have also been a focus for incrementally tighter rules from legislators.

Gun surrender was already required for some people subject to restraining and protective orders, but one of the measures signed Tuesday requires the police to serve the orders.

The new rules also update existing gun-surrender requirements for people under restraining orders, adding a requirement for law enforcement to serve the orders.

The so-called “ghost gun” measure involves two types of weapons: Plastic weapons printed on 3D printers, and guns without serial numbers, including ones that can be made from do-it yourself kits available online without a background check. It effectively requires a background check for purchasing such a gun-making kit.

The seven bills Inslee signed Tuesday are:

HB 1465 requires an additional background check for gun buyers who currently possess a concealed carry license.

HB 1739 prohibits possession of untraceable “ghost guns” which include plastic guns printed on 3D printers and guns that do not have a serial number, which are usually acquired through a DIY kit. It also bans the transfer of files for 3-D printable guns.

HB 1786 authorizes police to confiscate guns from those served with restraining and protective orders.

SB 5027 which expands “red flag” confiscation to juveniles under age 18, permitting an extreme risk protection order to be filed against them and barring their firearms possession for up to one year, renewable on an annual basis.

SB 5181 which implemented a six-month gun rights suspension from anyone under 72-hour psychiatric detainment permitted by Washington’s Involuntary Treatment Act, which is not decided by a judge but by a medical expert. In the past, those laws pertained only to people who had been committed by a judge.

SB 5205 which bans gun ownership to those with a history of violence and found incompetent to stand trial but not committed, where the current law has only banned guns from those declared incompetent and involuntarily committed by a judge.

SB 5508 which further adds concealed carry license requirements, requiring applicants to undergo a fingerprint-based background check through the FBI in addition to checks through the state databases.

Presidential candidate Cory Booker proposes national gun license for all gun owners

How is Spartacus going to ensure that criminals comply with this fantasy?

From Yahoo: Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker is proposing that all gun owners be licensed by the federal government, a process that would include an interview and safety training.

National licensing is one of more than a dozen specific proposals in a sweeping gun control agenda the U.S. senator from New Jersey released on Monday. It’s his second policy rollout in three weeks as he tries to break through the crowded Democratic primary field .

While current gun owners and first-time buyers would be subject to the federal license requirement, a transition period would allow current owners to come into compliance, the Booker campaign said.

No such national gun license program currently exists. Thirteen states and the District of Columbia have enacted some form of licensing or permit rules before people can buy guns, according to the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

“I am sick and tired of hearing thoughts and prayers for the communities that have been shattered by gun violence — it is time for bold action,” Booker said in a statement.

Last month during a high-profile speech in his hometown of Newark, Booker vowed to “bring a fight” to the National Rifle Association, which generally opposes gun restrictions.

Booker, a former mayor of Newark, New Jersey’s largest city, said gun violence is an issue close to him, with several people being shot in his neighborhood recently.”We must step up and deal with something that is crushing communities, destroying lives and really just tearing apart families,” Booker said in an interview on CBS’ “CBS This Morning.”

Booker’s gun control agenda includes universal background checks for gun buyers; the reinstitution of a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity firearm magazines; and the modernization of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The plan would face a steep climb to winning approval from a Democratic House and would face even stiffer resistance in a Republican-controlled Senate, where less-sweeping gun control measures have failed in recent years.

President Donald Trump has said the constitutional right to bear arms is “under assault.” Trump, a Republican, spoke at the NRA’s annual convention last month, vowing to fight for gun rights and imploring NRA members to rally behind his reelection bid.

Booker, who launched his presidential campaign in February, has struggled to rise from the low single digits in polls of the 21-candidate Democratic primary field, though he recently secured the 65,000 donors necessary to meet both qualifications for participation in next month’s first debate .
