De Blasio’s NYC: NYPD entering private residential property to crackdown on Jewish gatherings.

I’d close the door on ’em and tell them to come back when you got a warrant.

De Blasio’s NYC: Cafe receives summons for having their doors open!

New York City STILL has major restrictions in place for its residents. Some restaurants can only do takeout orders.

Leaving their front door open is a big NO NO.

I don’t know how any NYC business can survive this madness.

UPDATE: Last night I saw that this was a Jewish restaurant that is part of de Blasio’s “nonsensical and tyrannical policies specifically targeting the Jewish community.”

There’s a GoFundMe set up for the restaurant and here’s the message on the donation site: “We are taking your donations and splitting them between several restaurants to create a tab for volunteer ambulance drivers (members of Hatzolah) so that they can stop and get themselves meals between calls.”

‘Woke’ Seattle: 118 police officers quit; PD dangerously understaffed

Seattle, Washington is reaping the “woke” mayor Jenny Durkan and city council’s indulgence of violent left-wing radicals.

No need to defund the police. The police are defunding themselves by quitting.

First, it was Police Chief Carmen Best, the city’s first Black police chief, who resigned last August when the Seattle City Council approved historic cuts to the Seattle Police Department, including a $100,000 paycut for Best. See DCG’s post, “BLM achieves justice in Seattle: First black police chief resigns“.

Now, some 118 police officers have left the Seattle PD en masse.

Jason Rantz reports for KTTH AM770 that on October 16, 2020, the City of Seattle unveiled data showing at least 118 Seattle police officers had left the department in recent months, including even new recruits. In just the month of September, 39 officers quit, when the typical number for that month is between 5 and 7.

At the same time, the Seattle PD’s Human Resources Department disingenuously is withholding staffing numbers, ignoring a public disclosure request from KTTH’s Jason Rantz Show. According to reporter Ranz, “it seems apparent that they purposefully withheld them.”

Mike Solan, President of Seattle Police Officers Guild, said: “This is fixable if our elected leaders start supporting police, instead of pandering to a large activist crowd that’s dividing us when we need unity. False narratives about good people doing policing, pushed by the defund movement, is making our public safety efforts devolve further.”

The departure of 118 police officers leaves only about 1,200 officers in service for the entire city, the lowest it’s been in two decades. Even this number is misleading because many officers are using their accrued sick time as they begin their escape to other agencies or wait for retirement.

Since the population of Seattle in 2019 was estimated to be 753,675, by my calculation, that means the city now has one police officer for every 628 residents, or 15.92 officers per 10,000 population:

The formula used to calculate the rate per 10,000 population is:

Number of police officers (12,000) divided by total population (753,675) times 10,000 = 15.92 officers per 10,000 population

According to Governing.com, the average number of police officers per 10,000 population for cities with 500,000 or more in population is 24.3.

Seattle’s 15.92 police officers per 10,000 population means the city’s police department is dangerously understaffed.

Seattle sheeple, you voted for this!

The city of Seattle has found a new class of victims: Volunteers!

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced yesterday that the city is getting ready to address “systemic racism.”

It’s going to cost the taxpayers only $100 MILLION. Yet given Seattle’s hi$tory with trying to solve their homelessness problem, you know that amount will go up.

The press release is a word salad of progressive lingo: Deep disparities, systemic racism, institutionalized oppression, racial reckoning, climate justice, sustained investments, culturally competent prevention, school to prison pipeline, and so on.

Excerpts from the mayor’s press release:

“The City of Seattle announced today the initial membership of the Equitable Communities Initiative Task Force, which will spearhead a community-led process to develop recommendations for a historic $100 million new investment in Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities to address the deep disparities caused by systemic racism and institutionalized oppression. The $100 million investment builds on additional city investments and programs.

“Today, Seattle takes a significant step to recognize and address the generational impacts of systemic racism in our country and city and to build a more just and equitable city for the generations to come. History has placed us in a time of a worsening pandemic, an economic crisis, and a racial reckoning. Still, these unprecedented challenges also impose a moral obligation to act now to create healthy, just, and resilient communities for our Black and Indigenous neighbors and all communities of color,” said Mayor Jenny A. Durkan.

A diverse group of POC community leaders with deep connections and representing a cross-section of industries including economic development, labor, food justice, education, health care, homelessness, climate justice, are longtime community leaders. The task force will determine the scope of their work and lead all community engagement.

The task force will engage with the broader community to prioritize focus areas for investment and make funding recommendations for sustained investments and improved outcomes. Those areas may include educational and economic opportunity, community wealth building, community wellness, and the Green New Deal.”

Read the whole press release here.

Toward the end of this press release, I found that Seattle has identified another victim group: Volunteers!

The last paragraph of the announcement:

Recognizing that communities of color have often been abused by volunteerism – lending considerable time and expertise to correct systemic problems while not being paid – the City has set aside funds to ensure members are compensated and do not face financial hardship due to participation.

When one signs up to volunteer you expect that there will be no financial compensation; you do it out out of the goodness of your heart. And it’s also done of your own free will.

But of course, progressives find ANOTHER class of victims due to “systemic racism and institutionalized oppression.”

More Chicago restaurants to close as mayor keeps city under Wuhan virus restrictions

The city of Chiraq has a population of almost 2.7 million. And because the Wuhan virus has been so deadly there it is an election year, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has kept the city – and its businesses – under severe lockdowns.

The Wuhan virus dashboard from the City of Chicago’s Health Department (9/22/20):

First thing I noticed about the dashboard is they make it very hard to locate active positive cases. The front page (above) lists cumulative (3/1 through 9/22/20) tests and cases (77,675). In order to find current active cases, you have to click on Latest Data, Daily Status Report. Here data is broken down by age, gender and ethnicity.

Yet that “report” AGAIN shows total cumulative cases (77,657). Total deaths: 2,935.

I finally found a table, “Daily Chicago COVID-19 Cases, Deaths, and Hospitalizations.”

That table shows less than 600 active cases per day since 5/28/20. For four months .023 percent of Chiraq’s population has had active cases of Wuhan virus. Not serious numbers by any means, especially to warrant business restrictions.

So why is the mayor still hindering businesses?

MyFoxChicago reports that the 25-percent indoor capacity limit currently imposed by the city is ruining the restaurant industry in Chicago.

Restaurant owners are imploring the city to expand indoor eating capacity yet the city insists the coronavirus numbers are “just not right yet.”

Read that whole story here.

I’m guessing the numbers probably won’t be “just right” until November 4, 2020.

This is Chiraq under Mayor Lightfoot’s watch: Another double-digit shooting weekend, police under attack & murders up

You’ll be shocked to learn that another weekend in Chiraq, another round of double-digit shootings:

54 shot, 12 fatally, over Chicago weekend”

And now there’s ANOTHER problem in Chiraq, thanks the demorat-backed BLM thugs:

“Chicago police officers targeted ‘5 times’ more than years prior as crime surge continues, superintendent says”

Another stat out of Chiraq: “Murders and shootings have each surged 52% year-to-date as of Sept. 6, according to the Chicago Police Department’s crime statistics.”

Great job, demorats!

EVIL: Crowd chants “We hope they die” after 2 LA County deputies were shot

A more appropriate headline: “Demorat voters attempt to block hospital and chant “We hope they die” after one of their own attempts to assassinate LA County Police.”

From MyFoxChicago:

“As two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies fight for their lives after being shot, a crowd of protesters gathered outside the hospital chanting “we hope they die”.

The sheriff’s department says protesters blocked the entrance and exit of the emergency room at of St. Francis Hospital’s in Lynwood.

“To the protesters blocking the entrance & exit of the HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM yelling ‘We hope they die’ referring to 2 LA Sheriff’s ambushed today in #Compton: DO NOT BLOCK EMERGENCY ENTRIES & EXITS TO THE HOSPITAL. People’s lives are at stake when ambulances can’t get through,” the LA County Sheriff’s Department Tweeted early Sunday morning.

Video from the scene, showed deputies guarding the front entrance of the hospital as a handful of protesters stand outside.

The two deputies underwent emergency surgery after being shot in their patrol car outside the Metro Blue Line station in Compton Saturday night.”

Was the goalpost set all along? LA County schools won’t reopen until after the election

Back in May I did a blog post, “Moving the goalpost: Los Angeles County may stay locked down through August.”

From my post:

“County Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer said the stay at home order will “with all certainty” be extended possibly until July or August.

Dr. Barbara Ferrer

The good doctor said the following, “Our hope is that by using the data we’d be slowly able to lift restrictions over the next three months. But without widely available therapeutic testing for the coronavirus or rapid at-home testing versions that would allow people to test themselves daily, it seems unlikely that restrictions would be completely eased.”

Read the whole blog post here.

First it was “flatten the curve” and “bend the curve.”

Then, “we need more testing.”

Turns out the goalpost may have already been set at the beginning. As the good Los Angeles doctor said in a conference call with school administrators: “We don’t realistically anticipate that we would be moving to either tier 2 or to reopening K-12 schools at least until after the election, in early November.”

Excerpts from Fox News:

“Her comments led the California radio show hosts, who obtained the recording, to speculate about why she chose to use the General Election instead of some other day like Halloween, as a target date, and whether the county health department and schools were trying to manipulate public opinion in favor of the Democrats.

“What does it have to do with the elections?” one of the hosts asks. “That makes no sense, she just picked a date, the elections.”

The county health department said the election reference is an expected point in time to give context to how reopening plans are proceeding.

“Dr. Ferrer’s comment was related only to timing any expanded school re-openings to allow for enough time from the implementation of changes to assess impact prior to expansions,” a county Department of Public Health spokesperson told Fox News in a statement.

“When we look at the timing of everything, it seems to us a more realistic approach to this would be to think that we’re going to be where we are now until we are done with the election,” Ferrer said.”

Los Angeles County has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of September 12, Los Angeles County has 238,523 confirmed cases of Wuhan virus and 5,824 deaths. You do the math.

Key word in Dr. Ferrer’s statement: “timing.”

What a coincidence.

Why 63% disapproval of Portland’s radical left mayor Ted Wheeler is bad news for conservatives

Portland, Oregon has now had more than 100 consecutive nights of violent mayhem by Antifa and BLM anarchists and thugs.

Portland mayor Ted Wheeler

Portland’s mayor, 58-year-old Edward Tevis “Ted” Wheeler, boasts higher-educational credentials of a B.A. in economics from Stanford University, a Master’s in business administration from Columbia University, and a Master’s in public policy from Harvard University.

The epitome of so-called “white privilege”, Wheeler is a 6th-generation Oregonian, born to and heir of a conservative wealthy family who made their fortune in the timber industry. Wheeler worked in the financial services industry for corporations including Bank of America and Copper Mountain Trust before entering politics in 2006 as a registered Republican when he was elected Multnomah, OR county commissioner.

In 2010, he was appointed State Treasurer by Oregon’s Democrat governor Ted Kulongoski. Later that year, Wheeler switched party and won the Democrat primary for Treasurer; in 2013, he was elected Treasurer in a special election. Three years later, in 2016, Wheeler was elected mayor of Portland with 54% of the vote.

George Floyd protests began in Portland on May 28, 2020. Initially peaceful, the protests turned into a riot two days later on May 30. Despite that, on June 9, Wheeler proposed the defunding of three Portland police units, including the gun violence reduction team; the “diversion” of $12 million from the police bureau and other city departments to support “communities of color”; and banning officers from using chokeholds. On June 17, the Portland city council defunded the city police by cutting at least $15 million from the police department and eliminating 84 positions.

In early July, the federal government deployed law enforcement officers to Portland for the stated purpose of protecting federal property, including the U.S. courthouse that repeatedly had been vandalized since June. The federal officers made arrests and fired pepper spray or tear gas at protesters who got too close to the courthouse. Ted Wheeler and Oregon’s Demonrat governor Kate Brown denounced President Trump’s deployment of federal officers to protect federal property in Portland.

On August 28, Wheeler wrote an open letter to President Trump asking him not to send the National Guard to the city, saying that “We don’t need your politics of division and demagoguery.” This, despite the fact that a year ago in August 2019, Wheeler had requested that the National Guard be on standby in anticipation of a potentially explosive stand-off between Antifa demonstrators and “far-right” groups. Gov. Brown denied Wheeler’s request.

On September 1, 2020, after Antifa rioters attacked, vandalized and burned a fire in the apartment building in which Wheeler has a condo, he said he would move out “for the safety” of the apartment’s residents.

Here on Fellowship of the Minds, we have wondered why Portland residents are tolerating the continuous, unceasing nightly riots and mayhem — of arson, vandalism, looting, toppling of statues, assaults, and the shooting death of a Trump supporter. Some of us speculate that Portlanders are not doing anything about the continuous riots because they fear being targeted and attacked.

But their silence and do-nothing do not mean approval.

Everton Bailey Jr. reports for Oregon Live, Sept. 8, 2020, that two months ahead of the November 3 election (and Wheeler’s reelection), a new poll shows that 63% or two-thirds of likely Portland voters have an “unfavorable” impression of mayor Ted Wheeler.

That finding has been trumpeted by conservatives, including talk radio titan Rush Limbaugh, as a sign that the tides are turning.

But is it?

My reaction to the poll is one of incredulity . Only two-thirds of Portlanders disapprove of their mayor? That means as many as a third of Portland voters actually approve of Wheeler’s handling of the continuous riots?

Here are some other findings of the phone and online poll of 435 “likely” Portland voters, conducted by California-based FM3 Research, which indicate that Portlanders haven’t really changed:

  • Only a little more than half (59%) believe Portland is heading in the wrong direction.
  • 76% view the Marxist Black Lives Matter favorably; 22% unfavorable.
  • 92% support “non-violent protests”, but as many as 67% are in favor of “these protests” — i.e., the ongoing mayhem.
  • A majority of Portlanders believe there is a systemic problem in the city’s policing system. 70% said they would vote for a November ballot measure to create a new community-driven independent police oversight system, whatever that means. Not surprisingly, there is a partisan divide on the the ballot measure, with 90% of Democrats and 60% of Independents supporting the measure, whereas 78% of conservatives and 70% of Republicanas are against it. Alas, conservatives make up a small portion of the Portland electorate.
