Time to celebrate! Chiraq goes one full day without a shooting

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Mayor Lightfoot must be so proud. Oh wait, they still have over 2,400 people shot this year.

Imagine living in a city where a day without a shooting warrants a headline story.

From MyFoxChicago: Chicago went more than a full day without a reported shooting, from Sunday night into early Tuesday. There were no gunshot victims from 10:02 p.m. Sunday until 12:43 a.m. Tuesday, according to Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago police records.

Fourteen people were shot on Sunday, the last of which was a 17-year-old boy wounded in Little Village on the Southwest Side.

He was inside a vehicle about 10:02 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Spaulding Avenue when a black SUV approached and someone inside fired shots, police said. The boy was struck in the leg and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

More than 26 hours went by in Chicago without a shooting with injuries until early Tuesday.

The streak was broken at 12:43 a.m., when a 15-year-old boy was walking in West Lawn in the 7100 block of South Lawndale Avenue and heard gunfire, police said. He was shot in the lower back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said.

On March 21, Chicago recorded 28 hours without a shooting victim.

The first day of 2019 without a reported shooting in Chicago was Jan. 14, although two people were hurt in accidental discharges that day.

So far in 2019, at least 407 people have been killed in gun violence in Chicago, according to Sun-Times records.

Sanctuary King County: Man murdered in his sleep by illegal alien with previous felony

The price that Americans pay for living in demorat-run cities with sanctuary policies can be their life.

The family of a 56-year-old Seattle man found out the hard way that liberal policies kill loved ones.

According to MyNorthwest.com, the dead victim (identified as Sam Lam who was a legal imigrant) was apparently not the intended target of the illegal alien. The victim was shot while he slept in his bed.

The illegal alien, 25-year-old Julio Cruz-Velasquez, came to America as a child in 2000. He was ordered deported with a group of illegal aliens and they returned to Mexico. The illegal alien came back to America to no doubt “better his life.”

That included garnering a record of felony assault, reckless driving and vehicle prowling, according to KOMO News.

Bryan Wilcox, deputy acting field director for ICE’s Seattle office, told MyNorthwest.com that the illegal alien should have been in the custody of federal law enforcement long ago.

But criminal illegal aliens, unlike American citizens, receive a get-out-of-jail free card in sanctuary cities, counties and states.

Wilcox said, “Had [King] County called us and told us that they were getting ready to release this guy (from his previous convictions), we would have gone to the jail and picked him up, taken him into ICE custody,” Wilcox said. He added, “Had King County honored our detainer and just [given] us notification, made a phone call … he would not have been on the streets to commit this horrific crime.”

Illegal aliens stage robbery/assault in order to obtain U-Visas

Bonus: When these criminals are released from jail for staging this fake crime (if they are convicted/serve any time), they won’t be turned over to ICE for deportation because of Washington State’s sanctuary status.

Amazing that illegal aliens can get away with such flagrant disregard for our laws, courtesy of progressives.

More details about the fake crime here.

Another Seattle repeat-offender crime? Man gets knocked unconscious; wakes up in ambulance

Just last week I reported on a Seattle man who pulled a knife on business employee. He has more than 100 convictions yet is still roaming the streets of Seattle.

There are PLENTY of other examples of how Seattle/King County allow repeat offenders to victimize tax-paying and law-abiding citizens. See the following:

How many convictions does it take for Seattle City Attorney to place a homeless criminal in jail after his latest assault?
Seattle/King County finally have a plan to address repeat offenders: Will cost just an additional $5M taxpayer dollars
Violent repeat offender in Seattle assaults toddler with coffee, two days after his jail release
Insanity in Seattle: Homeless man attempts to kidnap child. Guess how many previous arrests/convictions he has…

KIRO7 News reported on November 14 that a man was attacked walking on downtown Seattle. He doesn’t remember the attack that caused him to hit his head on the concrete wherein he lost conscious for 40 minutes.

The victim, IT worker Young Kim, doesn’t remember the attack. He was confused when he woke up in an ambulance.

For some reason, the above video’s audio is not playing properly – even on YouTube.

From the KIRO7 story:

“I ask to them what happened? They say, someone hit, someone attack me and then that’s why I’m going to the hospital.”

The victim continues: “I heard many story in the Seattle downtown I never expecting it to happen to me.”

KIRO7 apparently learned that two tourists were knocked unconscious in downtown Seattle by a man later arrested and charged. No confirmation was given if there was any connection between these incidents and the attack on Kim.

Kim says, “I’m very scared when I walk the street.”

Well, you should be. You should be very, very afraid to walk the streets of progressive-run Seattle.

If you have any intention of visiting Seattle, I suggest you change your plans.

California Nightmare: L.A. homeless man poured bucket of hot feces on woman

The nightmare that is California and its failed cities continues to worsen….

Joel Grover and Amy Corral report for NBC4 Los Angeles, November 11, 2019, that attacks by homeless people are increasing in Los Angeles. As many as 9,846 of these crimes were reported in the city by the end of 2018, including a homeless man dumping a bucket of his diarrhea on a woman.

According to public records, Heidi Van Tassel was getting in her car after dining with friends at a Thai restaurant on Hollywood Boulvard near the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Suddenly a homeless man sprinted across the boulevard, pulled her out of the car, dragged her out to the middle of the street, and dumped a bucket of feces on her head.

Van Tassel recounted the attack, through tears: “It was diarrhea. Hot liquid. I was soaked, and it was coming off my eyelashes and into my eyes. Paramedics who came to treat me said there was so much of it on me, that it looked like the man was saving it up for a month. It was all inside my car because it was so much. He just kept pouring it and splattering it all over me. It was awful. And it changed my life.”

Van Tassel was rushed to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, where she was tested for infectious diseases caused by contact with feces. She’ll need to be retested every three months.

Security footage from businesses nearby captured the attack, and bodycam captured the aftermath as officers responded, but the LAPD and businesses would not release the footage, even when Van Tassel asked to see it.

Van Tassel said the Los Angeles Police Department told her they’d investigate the crime, but her phone calls to the department went unanswered. She said the police also promised to have their victims’ advocate reach out to her to offer services, but she never got a call: “It’s so traumatic. The PTSD that I’m dealing with is beyond anything that I’ve ever felt. There needs to be some kind of help for the victims of these crimes.”

The man who attacked her is identified in court records as Jere Blessings, a transient with “schizophrenia and psychotic disorders.” He was charged with battery, taken to jail, then sent by a judge to a residential facility for people with mental health issues where he stayed for only two months. He was released in August.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s office said Blessings is now back in the community, which worries Van Tassel. She said: “He doesn’t need jail time. He needs mental health care. I have empathy for him. Because he needs help. I will never, ever, forget his face. What’s the next thing he’s going to do somebody? If he would’ve had a knife, for sure he would’ve stabbed me.”

I searched and searched, including the website MugshotsOnline.com, but was unable to find a pic of the attacker Jere Blessings.

I found the Twitter account of a “Heidi S(abrina) Van Tassel” @HeidiSabrina who lives in Los Angeles and is an anti-Trumper. On Oct. 2, 2019, she retweeted this:

This Heidi S. Van Tassel on Twitter is the same Heidi Van Tassel who was victimized by Jere Blessings because her Twitter pic is the same as the pic of the victim in News Thud‘s report.

That means victim Heidi Van Tassel is yet another example of a “useful idiot” Democrat who seems unable to connect the failed city of Los Angeles with its all-Democrat government, which is why Los Angeles and California’s dysfunctions will continue.

The Los Angeles city government consists of:

  • Mayor Eric Garcetti, Democrat.
  • City Attorney Mike Feuer, Democrat.
  • City Controller Ron Galperin, Democrat.
  • City Council: 14 of the 15 City Council members are Democrat (the remaining member is Republican).

Game time! Guess how many prior convictions Seattle man has after he pulled knife on business employee

Demorat-run Seattle/King County has a major problem with what is called “repeat offenders.”

In February, a report detailed how 100 repeat offenders repeatedly cycle through the “criminal justice” system. Most of the repeat offenders are homeless and have substance abuse and mental issues. I’ve done several posts on repeat offenders in that area, see here, here, here and here.

Now people in the Seattle Ballard neighborhood are on high alert because a repeat offender is terrorizing their community.

The repeat offender, Patrick Kindness (I know, the irony in that last name), pulled a knife on a female bar manager and threatened her. This happened while the bar owner was waiting for police after another harassment incident with Kindness.

According to KOMO News, Kindness (50) has more than 100 convictions, including several felonies. He’s been booked into the King County Jail at least 10 times so far in 2019.

You can read about the bar owner and his employee’s story here.

I’m fresh out of ANY empathy for Seattle residents. They just had city council elections and re-elected the majority of incumbents despite their TERRIBLE conditions (homelessness crisis, homeless criminal activity, repeat offenders, etc.).

If you have any plans to visit Seattle I suggest you avoid that place.

Congrats, Seattle! You got rid of a socialist and gained a community organizer with a track record of “flash mobs”

Oh boy Seattle, you are in for another fun ride with the new city council member you just elected in District 3.

If you believe that anything is going to change with the repeat offenders, homeless crisis, homeless criminal activity and police response time, well, good luck with that optimism. You’re going to need it.

Bye, bye Socialist Sawant

Egan Orion is apparently going to defeat the incumbent socialist Kshama Sawant for Seattle City Council. In 2016, citizens in Seattle elected the socialist Sawant to council. Read about her radical views here.

On Tuesday, Seattle voters swapped her out for another far-left progressive – Egan Orion. His Twitter bio: “Writer, PrideFest and BBIA Executive Director, small business owner, and community activist running for Seattle City Council District 3.”

Hello Egan! Photo from his Twitter profile

His background/qualifications? From his web site:

“My grandfather was a Teamster who moved to Capitol Hill in the 1930’s to start a family. My parents were both teachers, but they wouldn’t be able to purchase a home in today’s Seattle. I will fight for living wage jobs and affordable housing options that protect and welcome diversity and dynamism in our neighborhoods.

I have a track record—from flash mobs to PrideFest—of creating opportunities and events that celebrate our diversity and unity. We are a dynamic, increasingly young and diverse city that needs to celebrate and protect what makes this a great place to live, work, and play.”

Egan does understand the seriousness of the homeless crisis in his demorat-run city. His solutions?

Build more affordable housing. Expand all types of housing. Change “Backyard Cottage” legislation. Stronger renter protections. Expand 24/7 low-barrier, high supervisions shelters. Prioritize treatment on-demand for mental health and substance use disorder.

All good ideas, yet ones that have been in place in Seattle for some time. All proposed solutions and millions of dollars spent have had a minimal impact on reducing homelessness in this demorat-run city.

At least Seattle voters had the good sense to get rid of the socialist. They’ve now got a replacement progressive. I’m not holding my breath that much is going to change in that failing city.

The Trump Effect: America’s 50 safest cities

Yesterday, I did a post on the good news, ignored by the MSM, that in 2018, the United States had nearly the lowest violent crime rate in more than three decades, as far back as many Americans can remember, of 369 violent crimes reported for every 100,000 Americans.

Violent crimes rate is a population-adjusted measure of incidents of rape, robbery, homicide, and aggravated assault

A message for millennials: John Roman, a senior fellow with social research institution NORC at the University of Chicago, said: “If you are under the age of 40, you’ve never been safer than you are today.”

Using data from the FBI, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed violent crimes rates to identify America’s 50 safest cities. Only the 294 midsize and large cities tracked by the FBI with populations of at least 100,000 were considered.

On May 22, 2019, the New York Times published an op/ed admitting that Democrat-run cities are unlivable. Indeed, the governments of the failed cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco are both run by all Democrats. (See my post on this here.)

Although elections of mayor and city councils are non-partisan, I thought it might be interesting to find out the political parties of the mayors and city council members of America’s top 5 safest cities. Their party ID information was very difficult to find. In some cases, I could find none.

(1) Irvine, California

Irvine is a city of more than 212,000 residents in Orange County, southern California, part of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. The City Council is comprised of the Mayor and four City Council members who are elected at large by registered voters of the City:

(2) Naperville, Illinois

Naperville is a city of more than 141,000 people 28 miles west of Chicago in DuPage and Will counties, Illinois. The state’s 5th largest city, Naperville is the wealthiest city in the Midwest and the 11th wealthiest in the U.S.

Naperville has a council-manager local government. The City Council is comprised of the mayor and eight Councilmembers elected at large:

(3) Murrieta, California

Murrieta is a city of more than 103,000 people in Riverside County, in the center of the Los Angeles-San Diego mega-region in southern California.

Murrieta is represented by Republicans in the California State Senate and Assembly, as well as in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Murrieta has a council-manager type of local government:

(4) McAllen, Texas

This is de Blasio’s city: NYPD vehicle trashed on Halloween

And last night protesters threatened police during a NYC subway protest in Brooklyn. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave them her blessing.

Get your city under control, de Blasio.

Demorat-run Los Angeles County: Homeless death rate jumps by more than a third

The street of LA…

This will not surprise anyone who has followed the homeless crisis news of progressive-run cities (LA, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, New York, etc.).

These cities spend BILLIONS trying to “solve” a problem they help to create. Yet they do NOTHING to actually help people in crisis situations and the law-abiding citizens who have to maneuver through feces, drug needles and criminals everyday on the streets. For example:

Liberal utopia of California: Business owners confront naked junkies and streets covered in feces, urine and syringes
Drugs, needles, feces and rats, oh my! Experience cocktails at a San Francisco bar while rats crawl around you
Failed city of Seattle: Police response to business owner whose customer was assaulted by homeless criminal, “you’re pretty far down the line, pal”
Insanity in Seattle: Homeless man attempts to kidnap child. Guess how many previous arrests/convictions he has…
Homeless Portland man receives probation & mental health/drug treatment at his 68th conviction

Last Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said in a that between 2013 and 2018 the number of homeless deaths doubled from 536 to 1,047. The overall death rate, which takes into account increases in the total homeless population in the area, was up by over a third in that same period.

Homeless in Los Angeles

From Fox News: “Put simply, being homeless in LA County is becoming increasingly deadly,” the report’s authors noted.”

Alcohol overdoses were the main culprit of deaths (27%) and the overdose death rate for homeless individuals was 26 times higher than among the general population.

Bureaucrats offered their concerns:

“This report is tragic, and reflects a true state of emergency on the streets of our community,” said Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, one of the co-authors of the motion. “It is unconscionable and inhumane for society to continue to turn a blind eye to this plight.”

“This alarming increase in homeless deaths requires immediate action to improve the care for our most vulnerable populations,” Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. “As we work hard to secure housing for those experiencing homelessness, we have a civic and moral obligation to prevent unnecessary suffering and death.”

Gov. Newsom’s recent budget includes allocating $2.4 BILLION to address homelessness through building shelters, offering rental assistance and converting hotels/motels into housing.

I searched through Gov. Newsom’s press releases to see if he had any response to this devastating report. He did not.

LA Mayor Garcetti/LA Times photo

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s most recent press release (before this report came out) touted how they have built more shelters. It didn’t address treatment for alcohol, drugs or mental illness.

I’m not holding my breath that any concrete progress will be made to address the real problems in Los Angeles County.
