Fake Hate Crime: Chicago police releases video of Jussie Smollett in prop noose

Jussie Smollett, 36, a black “gay” actor best known for the Fox TV show Empire, claims to be a victim of a vicious racist-homophobic hate-crime.

He told Chicago police that on January 29, 2019, at around 1:30 a.m., he was accosted by two men in downtown Chicago who shouted racist and homophobic slurs, beat him up, poured bleach on him, wrapped a noose around his neck, and warned him that “This is MAGA country!”– a reference to President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.

But Smollett’s story completely fell apart: Not only had he himself purchased the “lynching” rope wrapped around his neck, Smollett paid $3500 to two Nigerian brothers, Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who are also black, to stage the fake racist-homophobic attack on him. (See my post “Fake Hate Crime: Hollyweirdo Jussie Smollett arrested“)

Chicago police arrested Smollett and a Grand Jury charged him with 16 felony counts for lying to police and staging a fake crime-crime. On March 26, 2019, however, the corrupt Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx dropped all charges, in exchange for community service and forfeiture of Smollett’s $10,000 bond. Cook County Judge Steven Watkins even sealed the case file.

Foxx has connections to the Obamas and George Soros: in 2016, Soros donated $408,000 to a Foxx super PAC.

After all charges against him were dropped, Smollett has the chutzpah to insist that he really is a victim of hate crime and that the manifestly fake “attack” really happened. (See my post “No justice: Chicago prosecutors drop all charges against fake hate-crime actor Jussie Smollett”)

But others in the Chicago justice system are fighting back.

(1) Special Prosecutor

Former Illinois appellate court judge Sheila O’Brien submitted a petition to Cook County Judge Michael Toomin, requesting a special prosecutor to examine Foxx’s handling of the Smollett case. Last Friday, June 21, Judge Toomin did just that by ordering a special prosecutor, which means Smollett could be criminally charged a second time. (The Federalist Papers)

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi made this statement on Twitter:

“We stand firmly behind the work of detectives in investigating the fabricated incident reported by Jussie Smollett & #ChicagoPolice will fully cooperate with the court appointed special prosecutor.”

(2) Video of Smollett with fake noose

Yesterday, in response to an open records request from the media, Chicago PD released a trove of investigative files and 70 hours of video related to Smollett’s fake hate-crime.

The videos include body-camera footage of police arriving at Smollett’s home on January 29, 2019, after the staged “attack,” and found the actor still with the prop “noose” around his neck. CBS Chicago reporter Megan Hickey tweeted a video of police asking Smollett to remove the prop “noose” — from which I had this GIF made.

Fake hate crime: Jewish owners of restaurant staged city’s ‘worst ever’ anti-Semitic hate-crime

On April 18, 2019, the BerMax Caffé on Corydon Avenue in Winnipeg, Canada, was robbed, a woman assaulted, and the restaurant’s interior trashed and the walls spray-painted with anti-Semitic graffiti.

At the time, Winnipeg police Constable Rob Carver told media the attack was one of the “worst” hate crimes he had seen as a police officer.

According to a CBC News report, at around 10:45 p.m. on April 18, Winnipeg police were called to BerMax Caffé and Bistro, where they found the restaurant “severly vandalized” and spray-painted with anti-Semitic graffiti. The place was almost entirely destroyed, with plates and glasses smashed to pieces, tables and chairs flipped over and other items scattered across the floor. A woman had been assaulted and was taken to hospital in stable condition, treated and released. A robbery might also have taken place.

Const. Carver told reporters at a news conference the next day that the same restaurant has been targeted with similar crimes four times in the past five months. A GoFundMe page was set up by Robbie Kfir Mulder-Kiesman to support the café after a previous incident last month.

Elaine Goldstine, chief executive officer of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, said previous incidents were limited to anti-Semitic graffiti, but this violent attack “has taken things to the next level. I just can’t fathom how or why people would want to do such a terrible act. We are horrified and saddended.” Goldstine noted that the attack on BerMax took place the evening before Passover, a major Jewish holiday.

Adam Levy, communications director of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, said: “We’re absolutely in awe to be honest, we’re in shock about this senseless act of hatred which has taken place in our own community, in our own backyard. It’s the most brazen act of anti-Semitism that we’ve seen in our community, and perhaps ever. We hope this is not a sign of things to come.”

But according to a new CBC News report on April 24, 2019, Winnipeg police now say the hate-crime had been staged by the Jewish owners of BerMax themselves.

All three members of the family that owns BerMax Caffé and Bistro — Alexander Berent, 56, Oxana Berent, 48, and Maxim Berent, 29 — were arrested and charged with public mischief. They were released and are slated to appear in court in May.

Winnipeg police Chief Danny Smyth said the investigation has been a significant waste of police resources: “Over 25 officers have invested nearly 1,000 hours through a busy holiday weekend trying to bring this investigation to a close. The anti-Semitic graffiti and vandalism were also falsely reported as being done by outside suspects. In the end, we found evidence of a crime. It just wasn’t a hate crime.”

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman called the alleged fabrication disgusting and said if the mischief charges are proven in court, the actions of the accused would represent a “breach of trust” in the community.

The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg said in a written statement: “We are shocked and deeply disturbed by today’s news. It is deplorable that anyone would make false allegations of anti-Semitism, especially claims of such a serious nature, for any kind of gain. False complaints of criminal acts of anti-Semitism are not only illegal, they undermine the important work necessary to counter anti-Semitism and hate in all forms. We reiterate our appreciation of the work of the Winnipeg Police Service and their continued support for the Jewish community.”

But the Berents insist they didn’t fake anything.

In a tearful interview with Ismaila Alfa, host of CBC Manitoba’s afternoon radio show, Up to Speed, Oxana Berent denied faking the hate-crime and that she would never invent a story about an anti-Semitic crime because of her family’s experiences: “We didn’t, because we don’t joke about swastikas on our walls. My grandmother’s family, they died in the Holocaust. Just her and her little brother survived, the whole family. We don’t joke about that.”

Apparently faux-hate crime “victim” Smollett is suffering from “night terrors”

I don’t believe a word anyone from this family has to say.

From TMZ: Jussie Smollett is the victim of an out of control media and social media storm and the “Empire” star is suffering profound emotional issues from simply telling the truth about the “attack” … so says his brother.

Jojo Smollett says Jussie is “violently awakening from night terrors, following the assault” … so he says in an op-ed piece for BET.

Jojo calls claims that Jussie staged the attack “ludicrous,” adding he has been insanely successful and didn’t need a phony reason to boost his career opportunities or salary.

Jussie’s brother says there are plenty of people who support the actor and the problem lies with the “bandwagoning and tyranny of the ‘perceived’ majority.”

Jojo says Jussie didn’t even want to contact the police following the incident in Chicago and says it was his choreographer who insisted he do so and it was actually the choreographer who called the cops.

Kim Foxx says criticism of her handling of Smollett case is due to her race

From Daily Mail: The Chicago prosecutor whose office dismissed charges against Jussie Smollett defended the decision on Saturday, saying the Empire actor was treated no differently than thousands of other defendants whose charges were similarly dropped since she took office.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx made the comments during a defiant and emotional address at the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.’s Rainbow Push Coalition.

Foxx openly wondered if her race had something to do with the harsh criticism she’s faced since her office announced that charges against Smollett had been dropped, WGN-TV reported.

The actor was accused of staging what he claimed to be a racist and homophobic attack in January.

‘I have been asking myself for the last two weeks what is this really about,’ she said.

‘As someone who has lived in this city, who came up in the projects of this city to serve as the first African American woman in this role, it is disheartening to me…that when we get in these positions somehow the goalposts change.’

Foxx, who recused herself from the case after she communicating with a Smollett relative during the probe, reiterated that she welcomes of an independent investigation into the way she and her office handled the case.

She also reminded the audience that her office did the same thing for the nearly 6,000 low-level defendants who had their charges dropped with ‘deferred prosecution’ during her tenure.

Further, she said that under the law, Smollett could be fined a maximum of $10,000 and that the actor did pay that amount because his $10,000 bond was forfeited.

But Foxx did not address specifics of the case, or the criticism leveled by legal experts and others who said it was highly unusual not to require an admission of guilt by Smollett, particularly since at the time they dropped charges, prosecutors said they believed they could have proven the charges against the actor.

‘In my 48 years of practice, I certainly have never seen a deferred prosecution done like that,’ Richard Kling, an IIT-Kent Law School professor told the Chicago Sun-Times last week.

Foxx also responded to the calls by various critics to resign, saying that she will complete her term that ends next year and has plans to run for re-election.

No justice: Chicago prosecutors drop all charges against fake hate-crime actor Jussie Smollett

On February 21, 2019, actor Jussie Smollett, 36, turned himself in to Chicago police after he was charged with a felony for lying to police when he claimed to be the victim of a racist and homophobic attack.

Smollett, best known for the Fox TV show Empire, who is both black and “gay”, had told police that on January 29, at around 1:30 a.m., he was accosted by two men in downtown Chicago who shouted racist and homophobic slurs, beat him up, poured bleach on him, wrapped a noose around his neck, and warned him that “This is MAGA country!”– a reference to President Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.

But Smollett’s story completely fell apart: Not only had he purchased the “lyncing” rope wrapped around his neck, Smollett had paid $3500 to two Nigerian brothers, Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo, who are also black, to stage the fake racist-homophobic attack on him. (See my post “Fake Hate Crime: Hollyweirdo Jussie Smollett arrested“)

On the day of his arrest, at a press conference, Chicago police superintendent Eddie Johnson fumed with righteous indigation that as a black man who’s grown up in Chicago, he’s “offended” and “angry” with Smollett taking advantage of the pain and anger and racism to promote his acting career.

We were told Smollett could face probation or up to three years in prison if convicted. But the news today is that Chicago prosecutors have dropped all charges — and the fingerprints of the Obamas and George Soros are all over this stunning reversal.

Page Six reports:

The criminal case against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett took a stunning turn Tuesday when Chicago prosecutors abruptly dropped all of the charges — after slapping him with 16 felony counts for allegedly staging a hate crime attack.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office only offered a vague explanation why it was allowing Smollett to skate in the case following a surprise, five-minute court appearance in which Judge Steven Watkins sealed the case file.

“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollet’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the office said.

The move comes just a week after Chicago’s police union demanded a federal probe into the county’s top prosecutor for allegedly interfering in the case after being contacted by Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff.

The Fraternal Order of Police, which represents the department’s rank-and-file, sent a letter asking the Department of Justice to probe Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.

Foxx tried to convince Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to turn Smollett’s case over to the FBI — after Tina Tchen, the former senior Obama aide, reached out to her, saying the “Empire” star’s family had “concerns.”

Foxx had recused herself from the case in February because she had reached out to one of Smollett’s relatives and acted as a go-between with the cops.

All charges against Smollett will be wiped clean. His two attorneys said: “The state dismissed the charges. We believe it was the correct result.… We are very anxious for Jussie to get on with his life.”

First Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Magats (rhymes with “maggots”) — who took over the case after Foxx recused herself — said his office considered the incident a “nonviolent crime” and that Smollett has no felony criminal background. Magats insisted that dropping the charges does not mean Smollett was, in fact, the victim of a crime. He said: “Absolutely not. We stand behind the CPD investigation done in this case, we stand behind the approval of charges in this case. They did a fantastic job. The fact there was an alternative disposition in this case is not and should not be viewed as some kind of admission there was something wrong with the case, or something wrong with the investigation that the Chicago police did.”

Blah, blah, blah.

But Smollett’s attorneys, Holmes and Glandian, are sticking to Smollett’s fake story and portraying him as the real victim. They said:

“Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.

Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions. This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim in this case was the only just result.”

For their part, Smollett’s family shamelessly proclaims Jussie’s innocence. They said:

“Our son and brother is an innocent man whose name and character has been unjustly smeared. Jussie is a son, a brother, a partner, a champion for human rights, and a genuine soul who would never be capable of what he was falsely accused of. He was the victim of an assault and then falsely blamed for his own attack. This morning truth has prevailed and he has been vindicated. All charges have been dismissed and his record expunged.”

There is no longer justice in America. The America I thought I once knew is gone and may be never was.

Update: Just after I published this post, it came to my attention that George Soros had donated $408,000 in 2016 to a super PAC that supported Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, whose office prosecuted — and dropped — the Jussie Smollett case. (Breitbart)

Covington High School student suing CNN for over $250 million

I hope they pay big time.

From Fox News: CNN is likely to be hit with a massive lawsuit worth more than $250 million over alleged “vicious” and “direct attacks” on Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, his lawyer has told Fox News.

Lawyer L. Lin Wood discussed his decision to sue CNN for its reporting and coverage of his client during an interview that will air on Fox News Channel’s “Life, Liberty & Levin” on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.

CNN was probably more vicious in its direct attacks on Nicholas than The Washington Post. And CNN goes into millions of individuals’ homes,” Wood told Fox News host and best-selling author Mark Levin.

“They really went after Nicholas with the idea that he was part of a mob that was attacking the Black Hebrew Israelites, yelling racist slurs at the Black Hebrew Israelites. Totally false.”

“Now you say you’ve seen the tape; if you took the time to look at the full context of what happened that day, Nicholas Sandmann did absolutely nothing wrong. He was, as I’ve said to others, he was the only adult in the room. But you have a situation where CNN couldn’t resist the idea that here’s a guy with a young boy, that Make America Great Again cap on. So they go after him.”

Wood continued: “The CNN folks were online on Twitter at 7 a.m retweeting the little one-minute propaganda piece that had been put out. … They’re out there right away going after this young boy. And they maintain it for at least two days. Why didn’t they stop and just take an hour and look through the Internet and find the truth and then report it? Maybe do that before you report the lies.”

Wood then detailed the timing of the suit, saying it will be issued “Monday, Tuesday at the latest.”

“I’ve got some young, smart lawyers that are working hard as we can,” he told Levin. “Double-checking, and listen, when we file complaints, we’ve investigated it because we want to get it right. Maybe CNN can learn from that.”
Fox News has reached out to CNN representatives for comment on the pending litigation.

Wood filed suit last month against The Washington Post. The suit calls for $250 million in compensatory and punitive damages over the paper’s coverage of the confrontation, an encounter that went viral on social media. He told Fox News that the claim against CNN is apt to be even higher.

“I expect because of the way they went after Nicholas so viciously, that the claim for his reputational damage will be higher than it was against The Washington Post,” the veteran attorney said.

“The Post was $50 million for the reputational damage … $200 million in punitive damages — punitive damages are designed to punish and to deter. I would think the punitive-damage award against CNN that we’ll seek will be at least the same $200 million as it was against The Washington Post. But the compensatory damage to Nicholas’s reputation, that number I expect will be higher.”

The lawsuit against The Washington Post accused that outlet of practicing “a modern-day form of McCarthyism” by targeting Sandmann and “using its vast financial resources to enter the bully pulpit by publishing a series of false and defamatory print and online articles … to smear a young boy who was, in its view, an acceptable casualty in their war against the president.”

Several days ago, The Post published an editor’s note admitting that subsequent information either contradicted or failed to confirm accounts relayed in its initial article. The editor’s note was not satisfactory to Sandmann’s legal team.

Robin Roberts on her interview with liar Jussie Smollet: “It was a no-win situation”

Smollett’s narrative was questionable from the start: Two white “rednecks” out in Chiraq at 2:00 am during freezing temperatures screaming, “This is MAGA country!”

Yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

From Hollywood Reporter: Robin Roberts on Monday revealed that she saw “red flags” in Jussie Smollett’s story and was subsequently hesitant about interviewing the Empire star on ABC’s Good Morning America. The sit-down, which aired Feb. 14, was Smollett’s first televised interview since his alleged hate crime attack and was broadcast one week before Smollett would go on to be charged with federal disorderly conduct for falsifying a police report.

The GMA anchor took a moment during her solo panel at The Cut’s first daylong “How I Get It Done” event to share details about the high-profile interview, including the details of how the ABC get unfolded and whether she believed Smollett during the process.

“All I wanted was to get to the truth,” Roberts told the intimate crowd, including The Hollywood Reporter, that had gathered at 1 Hotel Brooklyn. “All I wanted was to give the truth.”

While discussing details of the interview, which was shot two days prior to its airing, Roberts explained that the GMA booking department had initially reached out to her about sitting down with Smollett. Talks about the possible interview began shortly after the Empire star claimed he was attacked on a Chicago street in late January.

It was in those early internal conversations where Roberts first voiced her reluctance. “I’ll be completely honest, I said, ‘I don’t know if I’m going to do the interview or not,'” she said. “Let’s just wait and see, let’s see if more information comes in.”

There was rising speculation over Smollett’s account at the time, but it wasn’t until hours after the interview aired that a report hit that brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo (who are now witnesses in the Chicago Police Department’s case) were allegedly paid by Smollett to stage the attack. The narrative around Smollett began to significantly shift, but the interview was already locked.

Roberts pointed to comments made by Smollett during a Los Angeles concert in the days following his alleged attack as another key moment where she questioned speaking with the actor. She was adamant that interviewing Smollett made “no sense” if he was just going to “lawyer up” or refuse to be candid.

Roberts clarified to THR that her decision to talk with Smollett was contingent upon him sharing details that hadn’t been previously reported, which would make the interview newsworthy. “If there wasn’t going to be anything new, I didn’t really want to do it,” she said.

It was after those internal GMA conversations that Smollett reached out, “outraged by people making assumptions about whether it happened or not,” Roberts told THR and the crowd. According to the GMA anchor, Smollett’s team said that the actor was OK with being challenged on what Roberts saw as “red flags,” but that he’d also say things he hadn’t already said elsewhere.

“I’m like — as a journalist and as a newsperson, this is his right,” Roberts said. “He’s going on the record for the first time. Yes, I’ll do the interview.”

Roberts noted that her GMA team went through the police report and conducted other research to prepare for the interview, which was originally set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, but was ultimately pushed back several hours due to the actor’s filming schedule. Roberts admitted during the panel that she wasn’t sure how it was going to go or how Smollett was going to react, but that she consciously worked to be as neutral as possible. She also was aware of her own identity as a gay black woman and how reporting on Smollett, a gay black man, might be perceived.

“He’s saying that it was a hate crime,” Roberts said. “So if I’m too hard on him, then people in my LGBTQ community are going, ‘Oh, you don’t believe him.’ If I’m too light on him, then it’s like, ‘Oh, because you are in the community, you’re giving him a pass.’ So it was, like, it was a no-win situation for me.

LGBTQ activist accused of burning own house in alleged hate crime hoax

Her/his five pets took “one for the cause,” perishing in the fire.

From Yahoo: A popular gay rights activist was charged on Monday with first-degree arson after an FBI investigation led authorities to believe he set fire to his own house in an elaborate hoax meant to look like a hate crime.

Nikki Joly lost five pets when his Michigan house burned to the ground in 2017, according to the Detroit News. At the time, he was a prominent figure in the LGBTQ community who had helped open the city’s first gay community center, organized the first gay festival and helped establish a hard-won ordinance that prohibits discrimination against gay people.

Considering Joly’s status in the community, the FBI initially treated the fire as a hate crime. But the more they pounded the pavement, the more the trail led right back to Joly. “We determined it pretty quickly to be an arson,” said Elmer Hitt, Jackson’s director of police and fire services, according to the Detroit Free Press. “We investigated it over what probably was a year’s time before the prosecutor ended up issuing charges.”

Joly, a transgender man, had been declared Citizen of the Year by the Jackson Citizen Patriot, a local newspaper, in 2018. The accompanying article dug into his painful past and celebrated him as the leader he’d become. It described the rejection he’d experienced at 15 from the adopted parents who couldn’t accept that he didn’t identify as a girl, the sexual assault he’d survived and the harassment he’d received for being transgender.

The article also called him “stubborn and undeterred” in his anti-discrimination crusade and detailed all the things he’d done for the LGBTQ community. But many in the community have expressed deep disappointment over Joly’s case.

“It’s embarrassing,” Travis Trombley, a gay resident involved in the fight for the anti-discrimination ordinance, told the Detroit News. “How do you do it to the community you have put so much effort into helping?”

“All that good work is tainted. We know one bad mark outshines a hundred good ones,” added community member Stella Shananaquet, whose son is gay. “I’m infuriated someone could tear down the community that way.”

Investigators have still not announced a suspected motive for Joly to burn his own house down and kill his own pets in the process. But Barbara Shelton and Bobby James — two officials from St. Johns United Church of Christ, home of the Jackson Pride Center, where Joly spent much of his time volunteering — have proposed a theory to the police.

They told authorities that Joly was annoyed that the gay rights controversy wasn’t receiving much attention once the anti-discrimination law he’d fought for had been passed. They said he was also disappointed in the lack of fanfare over the gay rights parade he’d helped organize, according to a police report. But when questioned by the Detroit News, Shelton backpedaled, saying, “Not sure I said that. I have no idea about anything, never heard Nikki comment in any fashion about anything like that.”

Joly’s attorney, Daniel Barnett, dismisses the speculation. “It doesn’t make sense,” he told the Detroit News. “He was Citizen of the Year. There was plenty of media coverage already before the fire.”

Joly’s supporters are also standing by him. “If there’s a cause he’s always there,” friend Terri McKinnon told the newspaper. “He goes out of his way to help anybody and everybody. We’re lucky to have him.

The case is reminiscent of another alleged hate crime hoax that recently came to light — that of Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who reported that he was assaulted by two men who hurled homophobic and racist slurs at him outside his Chicago apartment in January. Investigators now say that Smollett knew his attackers and have accused him of hiring them to stage the crime to elicit public sympathy. Smollett was arrested on Thursday and charged with a felony.

Just how common are hate crime hoaxes? The New York Times reports they’re “rare,” but “do damage.” Cynthia Deitle, who spent 20 years as an FBI special agent focusing on hate crimes, said the most common reason for this kind of hoax is “the desire for attention and sympathy.” She said, “The cases I examined took place in a workplace environment and at residences, and sometimes the allegation was made to draw attention away from a real negative aspect of the complainant’s life, like poor performance at work or school, or a feeling that the complainant was not getting the attention she or he deserved.”

Of course, hate crimes are a real and serious phenomenon. The FBI reports that in 2017, there were more than 8,000 reported incidents in the U.S. That number was up about 17 percent from 2016.

A hearing to file motions in the Joly house fire case is scheduled for March 8 in Jackson County Circuit Court, according to the Detroit News. Yahoo Lifestyle has contacted Joly’s attorney for comment.

Sunday Funnies!

Medicare Part G

If you are an older senior citizen and can no longer take care of yourself and need Long-Term Care, but the hospital says Medicare does not provide for nursing home care, what do you do?

You may opt for the little-known Medicare Part G!

The plan gives anyone 70 or older a gun (Part G) and one bullet to shoot a worthless politician, after which you will be sent to prison for the rest of your life.

There, you will receive three meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating and air conditioning, cable TV, a library, and all the health care you need:

  • Need new teeth? No problem.
  • Need glasses? You’re covered.
  • Need a hearing aid, new hip, knees, kidney, lungs, sex change, or heart? They are all covered!

As an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you at least as often as they do now!

And, who will be paying for all of this?

The same government that just told you they can’t afford for you to go into a nursing home. And you will get rid of a useless politician while you are at it.

The best part is this: Because you are a prisoner, you don’t have to pay any more income taxes!

Is this a great country or what?
