NY Post: Bee Gee Robin Gibb believes his cancer ordeal could be a form of payback for the global success of his smash-hit group. The 62-year-old star is in remission after battling the deadly disease for 18 months.
He was diagnosed with colon cancer, which spread to his liver, after collapsing in 2010. His ordeal sparked dreadful memories of the death of his Gibb brothers Maurice seven years earlier and tragic Andy, who died aged just 30. Yet Robin Gibb battled back and is now in remission.
He added, “Now I know how precious time is, and that you can’t put it in the bank. So I intend to make the most of every single second of it that I’ve got left.”
It is sad that Mr. Gibb believes that his cancer is the price he paid for having success in life. While I’m glad he’s recognized how precious life is, it is a shame he believes that this is “karma”.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
Mr. Gibb should realize that there are many others, besides him, fighting cancer that haven’t achieved his notoriety. How do you explain their ailments? We all have ups and downs in life. It’s how you choose to handle them that define your character. And blaming “karma” just sounds like an excuse to me.
