Can you solve this puzzle?

This puzzle is said to be over 1,000 years old.

A farmer has just visited a local market and bought a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage.

The shortest way home involves a river crossing, and the farmer has a very small boat, which can only carry the farmer and one of the purchases.

Here are the conditions:

  1. Only the farmer can row the boat.
  2. The farmer can’t leave the wolf alone with the goat because the wolf would eat the goat!
  3. Nor can the farmer leave the goat alone with the cabbage because the goat would eat the cabbage.

Can you help the farmer get everything to the other side of the river?

If he was in Mass The State would solve his problem by confiscating the goat to insure that it was properly innoculated and that he was following State guidelines for it’s proper care. Goats have rights here, people don’t. He would have to give up the wolf too as an endangered species. If he refused he would face fines, imprisonment or both. Then he should just eat the cabbage and go home. Or bring it home and make golumpkies. I assume anyone who would buy a goat, a wolf, and a cabbage is probably Polish

Too bad I’m not 1,000 years old or I’d have the answer. Right now I can’t even solve the problem to take the dog out for pee or bring the cat in for caca. Seriously, I have my Barney and he’s trained, my neighbor’s cat is not my job.

Wolves swim, and can follow the boat in hope of catching and eating the goat on the other side.

Take the goat, come back and take the cabbage next. Bring the goat back with you, take the wolf, then go get the goat.

First bring the goat across. Then row back and bring the wolf across, then take the goat back to the original spot , grab the cabbage and bring it across to the wolf . Then, row back to the original spot and bring the goat across to the wolf and cabbage. Fist pump and high five with the goat and wolf and smack the cabbage . Go home and crack a cold brew for all ! I did not peek!

Dismantle the boat and build a small bridge. Walk the goat across then return for the wolf. Rather than returning for the cabbage and leaving the goat and wolf unattended, risking the goat being eaten by the wolf, let the cabbage swim across. Cabbages can swim if they have to

Thought I replied to this, but will try again: kill, dress , Bar-B-Q them all over a good campfire, accompanied with a cabbage salad. Pack up the left-overs and row home.

Fun quiz, but why would a farmer buy a wolf?
