Bruce Springsteen releases anti-Trump song

Love can conquer hate…

Oh goody. I’ve never bought any of his music and won’t start now.
From Yahoo: Rock legend Bruce Springsteen has denounced US President Donald Trump as a “conman” as he collaborated on a new protest song released Wednesday.
Joe Grushecky, a Pittsburgh-based heartland rocker who has worked in the past with Springsteen but has had much less commercial success, titled his song “That’s What Makes Us Great” — a play on Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.”
An energetic rock tune that sounds like it could have come from Springsteen’s E Street Band, the song halfway through features The Boss singing verses on his own. “Don’t you brag to me that you never read a book / I never put my faith in a conman and his crooks,” Springsteen sings in clear reference to Trump.
Springsteen and Grushecky come together for a chorus that urges mobilization against Trump. “It’s up to me and you / Love can conquer hate / I know this to be true / That’s what makes us great,” they sing.
While the song is not his own, it marks some of the most overtly political lyricism of Springsteen’s career alongside “American Skin (41 Shots”) about New York police officers’ 1999 killing of unarmed immigrant Amadou Diallo.
Springsteen — whose songs have often told the plight of working-class Americans of the type who provided crucial support to Trump — largely stayed out of direct politics until 2004 when he campaigned for John Kerry in his failed bid to defeat president George W. Bush.
In November, Springsteen joined Hillary Clinton in a major election-eve rally in Philadelphia, where he denounced Trump for his “profound lack of decency,” and later played a somber, private show for Barack Obama’s staff as they left the White House.
Grushecky told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he wrote the song around the time that Trump took office and that he sent it to Springsteen, who liked it and agreed to give it “the Bruce treatment.”
Grushecky said he had been outraged by Trump since the time the tycoon mocked a journalist with disabilities. “That to me is appalling. I have special needs people in my family and in my neighborhood. I worked with special needs people my whole life, and I was really offended by it,” he told the newspaper.
Wonder if Grushecky wrote a song after Obama’s Special Olympic joke? I’m being sarcastic, of course.

What an idiot Springsteen is. I guess human trafficking and gun running and the destruction of morals and family values doesn’t matter to him either. Obama and Hillary and Springsteen…what a sorry team.

Another over the hill, outdated rocker whose better years are behind him trying to appear edgy and relevent. Akin to the 75 year old who diyes his hair jet black and buys a Corvette convertible. Bruce made his years ago and was set for life so it’s now time to play hipster SJW and show he doesn’t have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. Actually, this is pathetic. Someone ask him if he plans to distribute his millions to the down trio den and forlorn in ‘Trumps America’. He’d think you were crazy for… Read more »

Youghn . . . Excellent comments. I particularly like . . .ask him if he plans to distribute his millions to the down trio den and forlorn in ‘Trumps America.” Ain’t no way he or the other Hollywood/artist types would give up a dime; somehow they think if Socialism were to take over this country, they would be left sitting in their mansions, being waited on by servants. In reality, these folks would be among the first to be done away with. For the life of me, I cannot conceive why it is that they don’t understand that!!

I have to disagree about socialism, which historically has always had the worst income stratification and a superior social status for celebs among the elites. We see this typified in today’s socialist Venezuela, in recent photos taken at extravagant (by any standard) banquets at the Caracas Country Club while average citizens are starving to death, eating the garbage of the socialist elites like Springsteen, as well as any dogs they can capture if there’s not enough of a Venezuelan Springsteen’s garbage to go around. As Thomas DiLirenzo at lewrockwell points out, all this egalitarian SJW stuff coming from celebs like… Read more »

Actually, Auntie, I think Springsteen and his ilk will be the first ones the new regime would take behind the barn and execute. I wouldn’t trust a traitor of his own kind, either. Besides, this idiot doesn’t realize he serves no purpose other than as a mouthpiece for his masters. A new order in America is going to need people to rebuild and maintain the infrastructure. Crooners won’t be high on their list of necessities.

Never thought his music was that good, liked Billy Joel better as well as Neil Diamond.

Richard . . . Amen to that! He wasn’t all that good in his best days, and now he is just a wrinkled up old guy trying to relive the “good times.” He just needs to go away. . . far away!

It’s sad. “Glory days, well, they’ll pass you by… Glory days, in the wink of a young girl’s eyes Glory days, glory days…. I think I’m going down to the well tonight, I’m going to drink till I get my fill. I hope when I get old, I don’t sit around thinking about it… But I probably will. Just sitting back, trying to recapture a little of the glory of, Well time slips away, leaves you with nothing mister but Boring stories of — glory days.” Bruce Springsteen, foreshadowing his own demise on his 1984 Album, “Born in the USA”… Read more »

Billy Joel is so far above him — has such command of the language, can write a gorgeous memorable melody and has the voice on top of that. I went to high school with him – he graduated two years before me. He was second rate then, as now.

Q: What does Springsteen have in common with a box of rocks?
A: Nothing. The box of rocks is smarter.

Talk about one of the biggest hypocrites darkening a stage anywhere, Bruce is it. Calls Trump out in his behavior when he in fact, had a long time affair with Patti. While married to Julianne. Then to hear him sing you would think he was the biggest patriot out there, when he actually flunked his draft physical by acting crazy, blaming it on a previous head injury, but seems to be able to dance on stage for 40plus years. He blames his beliefs, on his Catholic upbringing, that seems a little sparse, and not on politics. Yeah right. He, along… Read more »

“The Boss” is an overrated has been who’s trying desperately to be relevant. Desperation is quite unbecoming.

I had the same disagreement with my twin brother. We are both musicians, have played professionally, while also having a day gig. He said that Bruce was a good singer/song writer. I told him that Springsteen was a never been, as opposed to a has bee. I had heard the tale, that when it was time for Bruce to go on the road with his band, he would make them audition in order to stay with them. I was not able to confirm that, but from some of the other things I have heard of him, I tend to think… Read more »

I have bought Bruce Springsteen’s music, and I’m glad I did: He provides the EMOTIONAL DRANO I was craving for! I do NOT necessarily reject any artist on the basis of his political opinions: And this is A LOT MORE than Leftists do! The Brucester and I are on opposite sides of the political spectrum. And, I REGRET TO SAY, it may very well turn out that Donald Trump and I may wind up being on opposite sides of that spectrum—although he won’t be on Bruce’s side. Let me explain: “Meet the new Boss… Same as the old boss…” I… Read more »
