Mayor Menino on Chick-fil-A: Stuff it

Vows to block eatery over anti-gay traditional marriage attitude
Boston Herald:  Mayor Thomas Menino is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from bringing its Southern-fried fast-food empire to Boston — possibly to a popular tourist spot just steps from the Freedom Trail — after the family-owned firm’s president suggested gay homosexual marriage is “inviting God’s judgment on our nation.”
“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Menino told the Herald yesterday.
“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”
Chick-fil-A has been swept up in a growing national controversy over company president Dan Cathy’s remarks questioning gay homosexual marriage and lauding the traditional family.
Chick-fil-A did not respond to multiple requests for comment. But the company released a statement yesterday saying it has a history of applying “biblically-based principles” to managing its business, such as closing on Sundays, and it insisted it does not discriminate.
“The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender,” the statement read. “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”
But that isn’t cutting the mustard with Menino. He said he plans to fire off a letter to the company’s Atlanta headquarters “telling them my feelings on the matter. If they need licenses in the city, it will be very difficult — unless they open up their policies,” he warned.
In February, Northeastern University balked at Chick-fil-A’s plans for an on-campus eatery after students squawked about reports the chain’s charitable arm donated millions of dollars to anti-gay homosexual groups.  Undeterred, Chick-fil-A — which boasts 1,600 eateries, including two in the Bay State — has been scouting the Hub for new locations and is reportedly eyeing a lease at 1 Union St., across the street from City Hall, the Holocaust Memorial and historic Faneuil Hall.
“It doesn’t send the right message to the country,” Menino said. “We’re a leader when it comes to social justice and opportunities for all.”
Ah, social justice?  So that’s more important than how a private business donates their money?  Apparently that is more important than how a private business owner wants to live his life.  And heaven forbid one have a right to have a different opinion.
So Menino, when are you going champion social justice for those that support plural marriages, bestiality, and NAMBLA? Wouldn’t want to limit their opportunities now, would you?

  1. Fine if they don’t want the jobs, revenue or taxes coming in, there are more then enough states in our great Republic that would be more then happy to accommodate Chick-fil-a! Seriously do this nutty mayor actually think he’s hurting this company? All he is doing is pissing off of the bulk of the taxpayers just to satisfy a very, very small minority!

Sounds like a threat to me, boy you got to love these blue states and their baby dictators.

  4. sure…discriminate against the Christians…maybe make them
wear a cross on their clothes and register them. Adolf would
    be proud.

  5. I stand with Chick-fil-A…Their position is clear and the Boston’s mayor shows his corruption by “making it difficult to get permits”…Chick-fil-A…don’t waste the chicken until they get a new mayor….

  6. Mumbles Menino is our own local disgrace here in the Boston area. He stays in power because of the corruption that is the Massachusetts political machine. (BTW – Mitt Romney played a significant role in successfully disconnecting the Bulger boys from their strangle hold on the state.)

Should the anus be used as a sex organ? Google First Scandal. When you get there, go to the top of the page and click on “Can you explain…”

  8. Fine.
That just means more Chick-fil-A sandwiches for the rest of us.
    -And that’s a good thing. 😀

  9. Mike Huckaby had the owner of Chick-fil-A, S.Truett Cathey, on his program Sat. night and he suggested that the people who agree with Mr. Cathey go to Chick-Fil-A on August 1, 2012 and show support for Mr. Cathey and his First Amendant rights to his Christian beliefs. I will be there Wed. Aug 1 even though it is 30 miles from my home. I hope the rest of you will do the same.

  10. I will get there if I have to walk, which will be good for me anyway!
Better get the LARGE iced tea.

    • Speaking of idiot mayors, be careful getting a large beverage if that means more than sixteen ounces if you’re in New York City or you might be breaking the law….just sayin’

  11. conservative in a blue state

Here in the boston area (there still are a few of us Christians!), led by Jeff Katz (talk 1200 am) we are all going to eat at Chick-Filet-a today to show our support!

  12. Dan Cathy has a right to his opinion just like you and I. If Boston, Chicago or West Nowhere Indiana wants to discriminate against CFA because of the view of the owner, let them. The courts will be glad to tell those cities they can’t do it. Discrimination is discrimination anyway you look at it. That is unless the Obama Justice department gets involved. CFA has done nothing wrong and should ready themselves for a legal battle that they will ultimately win. J.
