Bloomberg gives $500M to shut down every US coal plant by 2030

Man on a mission to destroy the US coal industry.

From Yahoo: Michael Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, will donate $500m to a new campaign to close every coal-fired power plant in the United States and halt the growth of natural gas, his foundation said on Thursday.

The new campaign, called Beyond Carbon, is designed to help eliminate coal by focusing on state and local governments. The effort will bypass Washington, where Mr. Bloomberg has said national action appears unlikely because of a divided Congress and a president who denies the established science of climate change.

We’re in a race against time with climate change, and yet there is virtually no hope of bold federal action on this issue for at least another two years,” Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement. “Mother Nature is not waiting on our political calendar, and neither can we.”

Donald Trump has made reviving what he has called “clean, beautiful coal” a cornerstone of his energy agenda.

A spokesperson for Mr. Bloomberg said most of the money would be spent over the next three years, although the time frame could be extended.

The donations will fund lobbying efforts by environmental groups in state legislatures, city councils and public utility commissions that aim to close coal plants and replace them with wind, solar and other renewable power. Part of the cash will also go towards efforts to elect local lawmakers who prioritize clean energy.

The campaign will be based on the need to avoid the most dangerous effects of climate change but will also emphasise the economic benefits of switching to clean energy.

More than 280 coal plants, about 40 per cent of the US coal fleet, have either closed or announced plans to close since 2010. This new campaign aims to shut down the remaining 241 plants in the country by 2030.

There are no economic benefits to switching to “clean energy”. The economy would collapse completely and society would devolve to a stone age level with famines, crop failures, epidemics etc, and a massive die-off. They call that “progress” because they hate humanity with a white-hot passion

Climate change is a hoax and is in accordance with Agenda 2030. Let's see some detailed data on climate change instead of conclusions. You can't talk about climate change without discussing the toxic aerosol spraying that has been going on for decades. It's all about controlling every aspect of your life and taxing the living hell out of you. There is no economic benefits switching to clean energy except lining the pockets of scum like Bloomberg with their carbon taxes…it will never end. Money is the root of all evil as this guy will be lining the pockets of lobbyists.… Read more »

And with the closing of the coal power plants he’ll go up in smoke before 2030. The planet is continuously going through changes, the Earth cleanses up and rejuvenates, out with the old and in with the new, we too will go and the blue planet will continue to spin as it has been meant to be.

There is such a thing as clean, and free, energy. This whole earth is one big generator. Nikola Tesla was able to tap in to it. But then [h]is financial backer, j.p. morgan, dropped funding cause he could not figure out how to put meters on it for profit.

The ‘military industrial complex’ of which eisenhower spoke has the know how and use of it, but it ain’t for us.

Oh Well, there he goes again. The Meddler on the Roof will not give up the ghost of trying to force himself on the rest of the human race. He just doesn’t want to be called out on it, Of Course: Rather than just buy up the nefarious coal plants and close them himself, he wants to get others to jump off the cliff for him! Balzac said, “Behind every great fortune is a crime.” Like other billionaires, we can be confident that Doomsburg has committed his, and he falls into the Romantic Trap himself: Just like Don Quixote, he… Read more »

“Alternative” energies (wind, water, solar, geo-thermal…)comprise less than 4% of our national energy grid (ie., YOUR electricity provider). Coal & natural gas fire up the other 96% (which is why I LMAO at people w/ electric cars b/c they think they are participating in a lower “carbon footprint.”” They may as well be burning a coal furnace/engine in the car…..the only thing it really modifies is emission at the point of the driver/car–but not the genesis of it’s fuel…stooopid is as stooooopid does!!!!) So, I guess like Barack Insane Obama once bragged durring his “you didn’t make that” campaigne….Bloomberg, too,… Read more »

Solar collectors work great at night. Wind turbines work fine even if the wind’s not blowing. Neither provide full time energy and there’s no way to store extra when generated. So what do we back that up with? Oxen around a turnstile?

He’d be better off spending that half a billion to uncover some of Tesla’s energy secrets that the FBI buried forever.

What makes him, and others like him, qualified to make life-changing decisions for others? Even if the Climate Cult were on to something (which they aren’t), who the hell is HE? Just because he has more dollars than sense doesn’t give him the right to use those resources in pursuits that harm others. Nobody elected or appointed this goober to “fix” a non-existent problem. I talk a lot about premises. Even somebody with good logic (not him), can’t make a valid argument with a bad premise. They no longer even question their main premise. They simply declare it to be… Read more »
