#BlackLivesMatter? What about blacks in Chicago? And black babies?

Trayvon Martin
There’s a movement, #BlackLivesMatter, that was “created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was post-humously placed on trial for his own murder”. From their web page:
black lives2
“Rooted in the experiences of Black people in this country who actively resist our de-humanization, #BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes
black livesIt goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight cis Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all.  Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum.  It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements.  It is a tactic to (re)build the Black liberation movement.
When we say Black Lives Matter, we are broadening the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state.  We are talking about the ways in which Black lives are deprived of our basic human rights and dignity.  How Black poverty and genocide is state violence.  How 2.8 million Black people are locked in cages in this country is state violence.  How Black women bearing the burden of a relentless assault on our children and our families is state violence.  How Black queer and trans folks bear a unique burden from a hetero-patriarchal society that disposes of us like garbage and simultaneously fetishizes us and profits off of us, and that is state violence.  How 500,000 Black people in the US are undocumented immigrants and relegated to the shadows. How Black girls are used as negotiating chips during times of conflict and war.  How Black folks living with disabilities and different abilities bear the burden of state sponsored Darwinian experiments that attempt to squeeze us into boxes of normality defined by white supremacy, and that is state violence.
#BlackLivesMatter is working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.  We affirm our contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.  We have put our sweat equity and love for Black people into creating a political project–taking the hashtag off of social media and into the streets. The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation.”
If they intend for a world where no black lives are intentionally targeted for demise, why haven’t they been protesting the crime in Chicago?

As of December 8, there have been 419 homicides in Chicago, with a total of 2,415 people shot, the majority of them black. In case you don’t read this web site on a regular basis, I’ve done many a recap over several months of Chicago’s weekend shootings:

Antonio Smith

Antonio Smith

If they intend for a world where no black lives are intentionally targeted for demise, did they protest over the intentional death of 9 year-old Antonio Smith (#blacklivesmatter)? He was shot by a black gang member who thought Smith was warning the rival gang members. From my post: “A gangbanger on parole for a gun charge shot a 9-year-old boy as he searched for rival gang members, then fled and told his friends he ‘shot a shorty,’ prosecutors said Saturday. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said Friday that Allmon shot the boy because he thought he was warning the rival gang members Allmon was after. He said Allmon shot the boy after Antonio said a single word: “Hey.” Antonio was shot six times — in the chest, forearm, back, shoulder and hand. Allmon, Williams and Denard have criminal convictions, according to prosecutors. Allmon was sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a gang member and released on parole on Aug. 1. Williams has two misdemeanor battery convictions. Denard, convicted of possessing a gun as a juvenile, was also on parole at the time of Antonio’s killing.”

If they intend for a world where no black lives are intentionally targeted for demise, did they protest the convicted Pennsylvania abortionist Kermit Gosnell for killing three babies who were born alive in his clinic (#blacklivesmatter)? Were they concerned about the women bearing the burden of a relentless assault on our children and our families (#blacklivesmatter)?
Gosnell
From my post: “Gosnell routinely performed illegal abortions past Pennsylvania’s 24-week limit, that he delivered babies who were still moving, whimpering or breathing, and that he and his assistants dispatched the newborns by “snipping” their spines, as he referred to it. Gosnell has said he considered himself a pioneering inner-city doctor who  helped desperate women get late-term abortions.

If they intend for a world where no black lives are intentionally targeted for demise, did they protest about the 31,328 African American babies that were killed by abortion in 2012 in New York City, while only 24,758 black babies were born (#blacklivesmatter)? From Traildust’s post:
“New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio pledged to partner with Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to expand their businesses even further by providing them with “city-sponsored” space to set up shop. De Blasio, who was elected mayor with 73 percent of the vote, also pledged to help abortionists wipe out their main competition–pro-life crisis pregnancy centers–which he referred to as “sham” clinics that do not provide “legitimate health care.” In addition, de Blasio said that in order to ensure there is a sufficient number of abortionists to meet the high demand, he would continue to force doctors who train in city hospitals to perform abortions as a routine part of their training. The mandate is a NARAL-backed program that began under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one which de Blasio referred to as “groundbreaking.”

  1. Excellent post, DCG!

  2. Where were Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson when that sweet little nine year old was murdered, or when black babies are butchered? It’s all about what is profitable for them (the race baiters.)

  3. This was a good article for a lot of reasons. The ONE thing it didn’t say though, yet eluded to (just a little bit) is the “reverse discrimination” that whites endure on a daily basis. When I was working in Alabama, the ONE thing I come face to face with, that I had NEVER had happen before was the violent prejudice of the blacks toward the whites.
One morning at work, the “time clock” where everyone punches in to get paid, had stopped working. Me and my supervisor were doing everything we could to get the machine operational again, when one after another black guys would come in, announce how “stupid”, or “lame” or some other vulgarity, we were, shoved one of us intentionally while heading out the other door. This happened 3 times in that ONE morning. I was beside myself. All we were doing was trying to help them make sure they got paid correctly.
Blacks can “tout” how badly they are persecuted all they want. I’m sick of it, and sick of being treated like slag every other time I happen to come face to face with blacks.
I had to LEARN to become prejudice. After all the run-ins I had in Alabama, NOW I’m a bigot. I shy away from blacks now, no matter how “nice” they might be. I would just rather not be involved in their crap.

    • Army Vet…this is NOT just an occurrence in “Black & White” America. My husband & I worked many years in US Public Health Service,Indian Health Service, rural Utah. Our son was severely asthmatic, & despite working for US Public Health, Indian Health…we had to rely on the sparse local care for our OWN health care(since we are not “Indian” & therefore could not legally even provide health care for each other within the Indian Health Care Clinic). I had my son in a waiting office of the tiny, local 14-bed-hospital during an asthma attack, 2 doctors on call….w/many other patrons waiting. Unfortunately for for all involved, someone came in w/developing/fatal heart attack that required all hands-on. We were left to wait, as were the others in the room. After a half hr or 45-min.after being advised of the situation (we’d already been waiting an hr) an Indian mother w/son who was ALSO having an asthma attack (why were they there anyway…instead of the Indian Clinic?) rose up & started ranting/raving in the waiting room that she & her son were being denied b/c they were INDIANS. She stormed out, promising all kinds of legal repercussions, & said she’d go to a neighboring communty to seek care & then file charges. My son & I sat it out, waited our turn, followed through with a subsequent, tho’ long-awaited treatment recommendation, & got over it.
I was going to go on in this post explaining, comparing..but, compare and make your own conclusions.

  4. When these “protesters” begin protesting with SOME thought and intelligence,I’ll begin to give them credibility;SO far, though, they can’t seem to force their minds any farther than the WE DEMAND part of their protests. Many don’t even KNOW what they’re protesting,or what they demand;they’re just looking for their chance to be on TV,act like they never GET to act,and kick ass on some bystanders. (and maybe get a new TV…) Gee-why do you suppose they don’t get RESPECT? It COULDN’T be because they do the opposite of all it takes to EARN it,could it?

  5. And,BTW,at the risk of offending the thin-skinned of whatever color they may be,”NI&&ERS come in ALL colors”,so all those white people out in Ferguson who were out there destroying buildings, cars and lives are NO better than anyone else who was in that game. There were some stand up people of ALL races who protected stores and store owners at great risk to their health, and to THOSE,I THANK YOU;YOU have EARNED your RESPECT.

  6. black lives matter to the abortion industry, to the food industry, to the medical industry, to the science industry, to big pharma, to the fluoridation industry, to the music industry, to common core, entertainment industry, to social services, nike…truth is many of these can be applied to any race. But, the numbers are disproportionately higher for blacks. When black lives start to matter to blacks instead of corporate entities, then we will see a change in the numbers of blacks who survive the womb by being born and live to old age without: hostilities, ignorance, illegitimacy, illiteracy, chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, etc), violence
When the day comes that blacks collectively open their hearts, minds, and souls to Jesus Christ will be the day they can truly say #blacklivesmatter and have love and peace that will redefine a race.
