Bill in Congress to raise retirement age to 70

6-year-oldsSmile, kiddies! You’ll work till you’re 70!

There is a bill in Congress which, if passed, will raise the retirement age to 70.

The bill is H.R. 1160, Alex’s Law, which seeks to amend title II of the Social Security Act so as to set the retirement benefits age for today’s six-year-olds at age 70.

cynthia-lummis Rep. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo)

Congresswoman Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo), age 58, who proposed the bill admitted that by 2033, the (mythical) Social Security “trust fund” will be broke.

She said: “We owe it to today’s workers to save this program and guarantee their benefits, because under the status quo that guarantee is imperiled in just a few short decades.  The modest change I’ve proposed is not extreme—it reflects the natural changes in our workforce over the years and doesn’t affect anyone in or close to retirement.”

In other words, instead of tackling the real issue of government over-spending and entitlements, Rep. Lummis and Congress want to kick the can down the road by saddling today’s pre-school generation to pay for expenses they never signed up for. As Simon Black of Sovereign Man puts it:

Screw the kids. They don’t get to vote for another 12 years!

No wonder Congress has an approval rating of only 10% among the American people, according a June Gallup poll. As ZeroHedge points out, that means the United States Congress is less popular than North Korea (which has a 12% approval rating!), cockroaches, lice, root canals, colonoscopies, traffic jams, used car salesmen, Genghis Khan, Communism, BP during the Gulf oil spill, Nixon during Watergate, or mad King George during the American Revolution.

It would be funny if this weren’t so depressing . . . .

  1. Whoever this “Bill” guy is, they ought to get him the hell out of there. He keeps coming up with one crazy plan or another.

  2. If the government would stop sending billions to the arabs and just pay back what they stole from social security to give the the arabs, french and panamanians it wouldnt be broke

  3. First of all, there is no SS Trust Fund – other than an IOU tucked into a rusty file cabinet somewhere in Virginia.

This is just the federal government trying to screw Americans out of even more money.

Besides, at the rate we are going, this country is going to be nothing but a distant memory by 2033.

This Lummis woman is an idiot.

  4. It’s high time that American youth had decent jobs. The old fogies who insist on being in Congress and government generally are out of touch and the youth isn’t going to listen to them, or take them seriously. We need junior Congressmen and Women to work alongside the elder statesmen who will introduce fresh ideas and will work hard to protect the future for their peers, and provide a decent life for people of their own age group.

  5. The youth of today is fed up and soon the protests that are breaking out all over the world due to the banksters austerity programs, will morph into a revolution which will not be quenched and will be catastrophic. There are videos of plain clothes Turkish pro government supporters, attacking the protesters with batons and machetes. Time to give youth jobs, reasonable jobs that are scientific and industrial and agricultural to protect civilization.
